    I think this album is going to be more polarising than other kendrick albums. I think people had gotten used to an unbiased social commentary from kendrick thats hard to criticise. I think Kodak black is on the album so much because he represents exactly the type of person kendrick is describing on this album. A flawed individual who was deeply effected by his generational trauma, causing him to continue the cycle of abuse and harm.

      This is a great interpretation on the matter, I really feel like he was trying to say something greater by doing that, for sure. You've put into words one of the many reasons why he might have made this decision. As a rape victim myself, I've wondered why the men who have assaulted me have chosen to do so. Maybe to project their own feelings of powerlessness onto me, continuing the cycle of abuse you're speaking of....

      I actually think MOST people really appreciate this album. It was just jarring for a lot of people at first. It's the epitome of a grower album, and this always happens with those. Especially one so hotly anticipated. This is a good path for Kendrick actually. To polarize means you're doing something right with art. Like Bob Dylan say "An artist should never change. I mean nobody clapped the first time Billie Holiday sang Strange Fruit"

    I guess I haven't been listening to the opinions of other people over the last day so I didn't realize how polarizing this album was going to be. For me, this man aired his thoughts, feelings, and experiences out in such a way that the average person couldn't even dream up doing. It is put together so well and he tells the story that he wants to tell. It's a blessing to be able to peek in on his mind and the people he works with minds. If a fan doesn't enjoy the rawness of that, just move along. Idk... I get wanting to vibe to something less emotional during some moments but Kendrick has produced plenty of bangers that a fan can revisit and there is also a multitude of music to listen to if a fan isn't happy with the art he produces. I guess that's why fandom can be toxic tho.

    I hate the fact that so many people call this album "boring" compared to previous Kendrick, but I feel like Kendrick expected a response like this. It definitely feels like one of his most if not the most revealing and emotional out of any Kendrick Lamar album, which a lot people just don't feel the need to listen to or comprehend, leaving them to miss out on so many of the important layers and intricate details that Kendrick crafted for this album. I feel bad for the people who haven't given this album a listen, as the lyrics and melodies are so well crafted to a degree that in some cases it can even provide life-changing perspectives. Love the reaction Quadeca, I can really tell you put a lot of thought into music just like Kendrick. It's people who are as dedicated as you and Kendrick that should succeed in the game, so I'm glad you got recognition for Scrapyard even if you personally don't believe it's your best. ♥

    This was honestly so unexpected for me. To me Kendrick has always been kind of lacking in some aspects of self-awareness as far as how he affects the world and his place in it, but this album showed so much growth and honesty from someone who already was more socially aware than most.
    I think the most shocking moment was when he brought up how he brought the white girl up on stage, I think about that often but I honestly never expected to hear about it from him. To think that it also affects him heavily, to him admitting to cheating on his wife and hate-fucking white girls, to him realizing he might have some unealized hatred for white people, to him realizing how generational trauma destroys the culture so much as those with even the best intentions (his mother) unknowingly do long-lasting catastrophic damage without even knowing it or meaning to. This album was so touching and wild and unexpected and I think it exposes a lot of his fake-deep woke fans who are now hating on it as this is a clear progression from his ideas on previous albums. Really loved this one.

    It seems that opinions have been fairly mixed on this album but I personally loved it. Kendrick definitely got super personal on here which I love, explored some new topics, great and varied production, and a solid concept that I think will only get better with time. Definitely preferred the second side to the first but they’re both great. Probably a 9-10/10 imo need more listens to solidify.

      To be fair, that's fairly normal for a Kendrick album. People had mixed opinions on TPAB when it came out, a lot of people thought it was pretentious and they didn't like the jazz elements. Then when DAMN. came out, people were divided on that too. A lot of people said it was boring, too commercial, not experimental enough. So people being mixed on this one is par for the course

I will find every lyric you will sing and every topic you will touch on. Based on the chords I will find out from intense studies of music history what track number the song is most likely from. I will then see what themes or ideas are most common on that track number. Thank you again.

    It honestly just bums me out that there are people out there that will never appreciate this album. It, along with other kendrick albums are the only thing with as much weight in the game as Tupac if you ask me. But even pac wasn't able to reach everyone so that's just life. Music is different to all people, what people want out of it varies, and there's just some types of thought process that people don't want to interface with. I think there is a lot of jealousy out there as well. Kendrick is real and he is different. He shatters trends and transcends.

      You really putting this album higher than every other piece of work in hip hop other than Pac? This is surface level stuff from Kendrick and it’s disrespectful to ignore all of the past great hip hop albums and place this higher than all of them. You need to listen to more hip hop if you think this is near the best this genre has produced. The overall concept, topics he discusses and lyrics are nowhere near hip hops best, let alone the production which is good in some parts of the album, and shocking in other parts. Not a bad album by any means but TPAB, GKMC, Section 80, DAMN, his EP, OD, even his untitled unmastered is FAR superior to this album. There’s more in conscious hip hop than just Kendrick, Pac, B.I.G, I suggest you try and listen to other artists.

    Worldwide steppers is one of my favorite songs on the album. The meaning behind his lyrics are very powerful; they highlight his struggles with his own racism and his deep hatred for the capitalist society we live in. All of his lyrics about slow killers is him saying that even the church goer who participates in capitalism or any sort of beneficial charity indirectly is contributing to the poverty of other human beings. These humans in poverty then slowly get killed overtime by the environment their forced to live in and the limited or unhealthy materials and goods they have access to. We all some killers bitch. We all contribute to the slow killing of other humans because of the society we live in. Yet, at the end of the day, the same people who don’t realize this are the ones who are hating Kendrick for putting Kodak on the album. That’s the whole fucking point, we some killers, if you can forgive yourself you can forgive Kodak and Kendrick. We some killers she a killer hes a killer bitch.

    Seeing a lot of mixed reactions but this album is actually really nice. It’s like one big therapy session and it has a bit of everything so you can’t be mad at him for trying something new and still killing it! 🔥 not a perfect album, but definitely a great body of work. As Kendrick said, he is not anybody’s savior and people gotta stop treating him like a god. Yes, he’s insanely talented and perhaps the best artist of our generation, but that doesn’t mean he can’t choose his own well-being over everything else. He talked about this in the last track too and I think he did a great job of conveying different sides of his psyche. Some people just hating for no reason. Was a great album. People just gotta chill out and stop expecting so much from artists who are just people at the end of the day.

    I like how you actually make music so when you review something you understand the process and you're not just like "that's weird, I wish it was more like this"

      @@Sigmundfrued i know a lot of LGBT members didn’t like it cuz of the slur but to me, tho it’s obvious very cis way of discussing it, it’s clearly obvious it’s abt trans rights and allyship

      @@chlicoo thanks for sharing your take on it! I was pretty curious about how it would be taken, esp with how the hooks depend on deadnames.

      @chlicoo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      @@anachronismic the whole deadname thing is the same as the slur, it’s kinda weird to hear him say it but listening to the full song and the meaning, you can tell kendrick doesn’t mean it in a transphobic way, but in the perspective of someone who just didn’t know better.
