    The Red Shoulder Severum Cichlid, formerly from the Amazon, is a very trusting species that will sometimes take food directly from your hand. To keep this fish content, provide them with a home in a 20-gallon or larger tank that features few plants and a soft bottom. Also consider complementing the tank with a few big rocks, just as long as there is still a lot of room for swimming. They will also be most content living amongst a large school of fish. They will like eating frozen foods, including freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, and ocean plankton, as well as flake food and Cichlid pellets.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    That explains why they were picking at my plants as soon as I added them to my tank. I thought they were hungry

      Severums do enjoy munching on plants so the plants won't last long🙂

    I've got a few Rotkeil Severums in a 600 litre tank. Is it possible to sex them before their adult colours come though? Someone told me they can be vent-checked at 4-5 cm long?
    Thanks

    I was taught Severums like their greens and would eat your plants up.

    • @MultiTankAddiction

      They will in most cases however the native region for severum is the amazon and the plant life there has developed a natural defence against most grazers by either having thicker leaves or tasing bitter, such is the case for Amazon swords and java fern. Anubias has thicker leaves and can usually survive nicely. There are occasions when severum are grumpier and destroy your plants just because they want to. Check out one of the videos of my 500 gallon planted South American Biotope tank as an example.

    so is there a difference between a red shoulder sevrum and tiger sevrum?

    • @MultiTankAddiction
      @MultiTankAddiction  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even though they are both considered heros severus, the Rotkeil severum also known as the red shoulder severum or red head severum are an undefined sub species of the Heros genus , the Tiger Severum are sometimes considered the true Heros Severus also called the Curare Severum they are from very acidic waters with low ph, and are only wild caught. So no although they are similar they are not the same fish.. Similarly the paratilapia bleekeri, and polleni are very similary in many ways but are different species none the less.. I hope that answers your question. I think I should do a new video explaining the differences of all the severum.

      I will have to look at it on my computer but at a glance its more than likely a rotkeil, unless you bought it from a reputable importer, like imperial tropicals, also it would have been $30 or more for a single fish were as a rotkeil is as low as $7 for a single fish. I will be doing a stream Wednesday answering question just like this, i will bring it up there ok?
