Thanks for sharing your well-deserved road trip! I miss California so much, Phoenix area is so devoid of beautiful trees.

They had one of these at Knott's Berry Farm back in the day.

I remember from the 1960’s. I know that I really loved it back then.

That brings back memories! When I was a kid (in the sixties ) That place was called "Uncanny Canyon, Where gravity goofed!" I stood on that same place with my Dad. Todd Konoske the retired trucker ( Elmira, Or. )

Confusion Hill is a roadside attraction in Piercy, California. The attraction, which opened in 1949, includes what is dubbed as a "gravity house", a structure built to give the interior visitors tilt-induced optical illusions, similar to the perspective on a gravity hill. Occupants experience the need to stand upright when they actually already are. Also included in the attraction is the Mountain Train Ride a 1+1⁄2-mile (2.4 km) 20 in (508 mm) narrow gauge built in a switchback layout along the side of a steep hill.
For 60 years, Confusion Hill was on the heavily traveled US 101 highway, also known as the Redwood Highway. Due to repeated mudslides obstructing the road, US 101 was realigned in 2009 to the Confusion Hill Bridges, bypassing the attraction. In 2010 Confusion Hill was granted California Points of Historical Interest status.[

    1949
Confusion Hill was built by George Hudson in 1949. After WWII, George was intrigued with the idea of finding his own "special" place similar to the Oregon Vortex and the Santa Cruz Mystery Spot. He believed that there were more than just a few places in NATURE that defied its own LAWS.

Cool trip! Been through Hwy 1 and 101 many times. The Coastal Redwoods are truly amazing. They are relatives of the Sequoias but taller. Those in Eastern Central California are larger in girth. Too bad you didn't have more time cause the drive north of Eureka up to Crescent City is gorgeous. Many beautiful Redwood Groves and places you can view elk pretty close. One of many treasures in California. Too bad it's being ruined by Politicians and high taxes. Anyways, thanks for sharing your road adventures. Peace out 👍🇺🇸

It’s been there since I was a kid and I’m 64. It was right on the highway then. Never stopped there though. Used to go up to the redwoods to camp at Richardson Grove State Park every year. Back then only one log to a truck and that was just a small section of the overall tree.

12:30 I'd heard about it vaguely, but I had it confused with one of the giant Sequoias down around Kings Canyon. Didn't realize it was in NW CA. But dude -- them giant redwoods is GIANT.

I’ve been to a couple of places exactly like confusion hill. They went by the name “the mystery spot”. The ones I went to were in the upper peninsula of Michigan and Santa Cruz in cali. The guy in SC told me that they’re part of a chain of 13 mystery spots.

Well, you passed through my neck of the woods this time. Road repair on 299 is always ongoing. Repair one section and move on to the next worse spot. Been that way the fifty years I've lived here. Wouldn't live anywhere else.

13:20 Bigfoot gets a lot of commercial attention up there in the Klamath Mtns -- especially around Happy Camp. But hey, whatever gets 'em in the door....

10:47 Ya it's possible that's a spell. Fortunately I have a fix for that. I know someone who can break ANY spell.

The forests on the drive today was very heavily wooded. The stop at Contusion Hill can make a person confused.

Your body orients itself through your eyes, inner ear and body.
Those places tell your eyes one thing and your ears something else and your body struggles to adjust to both.
We went to one as a kid and I was dizzy for 2 days after leaving.
That place has some bad hoodoo.

16:09 Wow! You look at Scotia on Google Earth and there's like easily 30 acres south of town full of nothing but tree trunks and lumber stacked god knows how high.

1:52 Supposedly this is a symbol of Divine Providence, like the one over the pyramid symbol on the dollar bill. What the significance of the arm sticking out or the pipe on top is anyone's guess....

Maybe I'm missing out but I've always avoided those tourist traps plastered with promotion signs where they are likely to put unwanted bumper stickers on your rig.

My family logged for the Scotia Lumber Mill. It has changed names/owners over the years. Rio Dell the next town across the Eel from Scotia was pretty much populated by Lumbermen.
