    And I remember Pac-Man and everything inbetween. The progress has been insane, and it's been wonderful to witness firsthand as it happened.

      xyhmo Indeed. We are the first, the last, the lost and forgotten. The technicality between the soul of the past, and the free, augmented soul of the future. The ones who given up everything, to give everything to the posterity. The first to spend most of our lives in the offices, but the last to do this wholy in the analog world.
      What comes next is virtual office spaces and telepresence in VR. Ones where you juggle infinite tennis balls while figuring out your next gig, and where Minecraft is just another virtual room in which you recess with co-workers in office hours, and with your children and friends on vacation. Where you go shopping by entering a door in a virtual hallway, that you summon using your voice.

      Supersonic Tumbleweed Yes, and to have witnessed it all from the early 80s to today, having watched cyberpunk and science fiction movies describing virtual reality whilst we playing games starting with space invaders and watching that evolve to games like Ghosts n Goblins, then rudimentary 2d/3d in Xybots and eventually Doom.
      To have witnessed this evolution has been to witness the creation of a new world. As for those scifi movies where people talked to their houses "lights on, open the front door, coffee", or ventured into realistic virtual reality, that's here now. And we, the few, observed its evolution from the very beginning...
      This is our world.

    • @xyhmo
      @xyhmo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Supersonic Tumbleweed, that's poetic, my friend. I sometimes envy those who were born late enough to have grown up with the internet, as I would have loved that. But I realize that some of the magic would have been lost without having a pre-internet life to compare to. As a young adult I got the internet back in '96, and it was a new magic fronteer, much like video games in the 80s. And now we're finally getting viable VR and photorealistic virtual worlds, but then there are other fronteers on the horizon as well, such as advances in biotechnology and radical life-extension. In 1000 years I will be telling incredulous children about the time in far past when we couldn't even cure aging, and when all humans lived on a single planet. They will be amazed and horrified.

    This would be great for inside tours for the Real Estate industry, anyone have any idea how practical that would be to have a database of the inside of houses through this type of tool, and it be able to be accessed and viewed by people who are looking for houses from their computer at home?

    • @T-bone321
      @T-bone321 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OR maybe just stick to a couple 360 photos of the inside of the house it seems, maybe that would be more practical... :) sorry i am definitely newbie when it comes to this tech

    • @voidofspaceandtime4684
      @voidofspaceandtime4684 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Chris Cornelius the ability to create and place models would need to be a LOT easier before this is practical for real estate, sorry about that.

    • @JayJapanB
      @JayJapanB 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not sure how prolific it is but there is definitely a market for realtime Archvis.
      I have to disagree with Void. UE4 is easy to use. Interior objects are also usually pretty easy to make. Most Arch vis objects use generic materials rather than specific textures, the poly count can be high and nothing needs animating. Scenes for arch vis mostly use baked lighting as well as there usually isn't a need for dramatic lighting changes. Also there are a lot of models of furniture and interior objects already out there. Chances are you might not need something too specific. Just something that looks nice and fills in the space.

    • @voidofspaceandtime4684
      @voidofspaceandtime4684 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For someone who is in reality and may use sketchup or something, UE4 would be in the very least hard to get used to.

    • @JayJapanB
      @JayJapanB 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any program takes some amount of effort to learn and I'd say Unreal is easier than many to get started in.
      You can use sketchup to build a building then UV and export it as an FBX then just chuck some materials on it in UE4. Plenty of UE4 market place assets to fill in the rest. Or you could just pay someone to do it.

    In a couple of videos I will demonstrate how the Unreal Engine 4 performs on a GTX 1080 when showcasing the demos. This part: real life interiors

    This is it. This is the absolute pinnacle of visual imagery in digital media. No matter how much more we advance our technology, digital visual imagery will never exceed this. We will be able to create stunningly beautiful environments in both realistic and fantasy like settings but this is it. It will never so long as we exist get better than this beyond minor tweaking.
    Edit: Ok I stand corrected. Unreal still has room for improvement. When it achieves an environment like this th-cam.com/video/BOa0zQBRs_M/w-d-xo.html , THEN we will be at the pinnacle of digital visual imagery.

      You are right that you could walk that demo in VR.
      But you won´t be able to play games in the quality in the video. These are just Demos that are pre rendered. You could say it's cheating because in games you render Realtime, the graphic cards nowadays don't cant do such extensive Renderings in such a short time. It's gonna take at least 3 years to get games that look like this.
      And console...well they are just consoles....

    Is it just me, or do most games use lighting that is too intense and harsh? Like, even the most amazing looking games have shadows that are so dark, even in broad daylight you can't see any detail in the shadows. A scene like at the start of this video, in a game by a AAA studio it wouldn't be nearly as bright and smooth in the lighting and shadows.

    I'm much more interested in optimizing the use of physics in games. textures and lighting have zero gameplay value while physics can improve gameplay in an incredible way. imagine everything reacted like it did in reallife. u water a plant and it grows. u shoot into my knee and i can't walk anymore and have to crouch. stuff like that is so much more fascinating. obv they already exist but they are too intense on our machines. optimizing that instead of getting textures and lighting to look more and more like reallife would benefit us gamers much more

      I guess it has a lot do with marketing. much easier to market a game that looks good but has bad gameplay compared to a game that has bad graphics but good gameplay. eventually all games will have amazing graphics with computers and engines getting better by the hour. and when that point is reached we'll have no other choice than to create good gameplay to convince people to buy the games :D

    Unreal engine in the past has made some incredible breakthroughs in image rendering, and this is right up there. As with anything now and in the past though, the animation ruins the whole experience and makes everything look like a cheap video-game the moment the camera moves. I wish they'd put some work into sheer camera physics - few engines/games pull that off, and when they do, engines with far less image rendering fidelity deliver a much more credible experience. Lame clunky camera motion ruins the whole thing - in these demos, as they have in many Unreal based games in the past...

    This scene culd be achieved only by baked lights and shadows. There is nothing to be too impressed about expect unreal 4 is a really good engine.

    Why don't they make games like this?

      This is just a house. Games tend to have many houses. And characters. And scripts, items, etc. Most PCs aren't ready yet, not to mention the consoles holding them back.

      Mwalker it's resource intensive, Amber also had a few points why it's not in games. just give it a few more years

      Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is probably the closest. It uses very high resolution textures. That is using the Dawn engine, though.

      Mr.Stranger You're right. It does look good. This video is a whole new level though. I could actually be fooled into thinking this was real.
