Hello Just wanted to ask if your product shipped with updated drivers from AMD, or did you have to get them from somewhere. I set up my own SER7 7840HS which arrived yesterday and did not notice any AMD drivers being downloaded or installed during Windows update. Also I noticed that on the AMD Graphics drivers web page, mention was made of the latest driver package, plus another named "Adrenaline". Needless to say, I did not download or install either of these. Anyway, just wanted to ask what you did or didn't do in this regard (After all you did end up without sporadic rebooting issues and I am obviously keen to circumvent this particular malady). Also, did you notice if the SER7 included an M2-SSD screw in the accessories package. I have heard these things can be difficult to find, assuming you can even find out the right type to buy. It is my intention to add a 4TB Gen 3 or 4 SSD as soon as I am able to. Many thanks for an excellent review, which acted as the significant tipping point for my purchase of this model. JohnC (Canada)
Hi, I updated to the latest drivers off AMD's website I always do this as the included driver is a little dated. The Ryzen 7X40HS series has been plagued with issues across all the brands and I think it's down to some of the unit's bad RAM (according to some) and just being rushed out plus AMD has had DDR5 RAM stability issues at 5600mhz but fine at 5200Mhz. This and the UM790 Pro are the only two units that have not had random reboots or powering off. It was so frustrating with my Beelink GTR7 I gave up in the end and sold it off for half the price as it was faulty, Beelink later did offer to replace it but it was gone. This unit is the most stable of them yet. Next up I hope to review the UM790 ITX with oculink.
As always an amazing and honest review. I'm willing to have budget buy this one. How it sounds to use this hw as streaming device, 1080-60 with 3 screens? Fits?
I love this and I really want to buy one of these mini PCs but I'm not going to do it if it doesn't have occulink. Regardless it's a very exciting time because I know it's coming soon 😊. I will admit though I hate waiting... I'm almost tempted to pick up the clamshell foldable one from GPD but nah that price I'm not going to be dealing with overheating issues Plus I want faster for that money
Hi Chris great review as always! Just ordered one myself, my question would be are you sure that the Intel ax211 with WIFI6e is compatible with the AMD platform? Also do you think the Samsung 990 pro with the optional OEM heatsink would fit to be used as the primary SSD?
Hi yes to both counts. I've reviewed plenty of these new Ryzen Mini PC's with the AX211 it works with our without intel chipsets. And yes the 990 Pro will work but the heatsink I've not seen how big it is for the fit.
Thank you for your answer, the height of the 990 Pro with the heatsink is Max 8.2 (mm). I will try it when I have the SER7 in my hands and report back. @@Techtablets
Hi Chris so I can finally confirm that the 990 Pro (or any NVME drive) can only be installed without the heatsink in both primary and secondary positions. Secondly on AMD platforms only AX210 is supported for WIFI6e and BT5.3. The AX211 is only for Intel platforms due to CNVi2 (some elements are on the Intel platform motherboard)@@Techtablets

UM790 is my pick I've had no issues with my one. But with that video editing is it in 4k? I still think video editing you need a dedicated video card if it's 4k and long videos. I was editing my reviews on it but it started to lag a little with larger 14 minute reviews and chocked with camera camera comparisons which are 3 x 4k videos at once.

Hello, I finally received my Minisforum UM790 Pro yesterday. Well, it’s a very nice and powerful mini PC. Linux and Windows work well. But I was very unhappy when I connected my Motu M4 USB sound card. There was a persistent loud noise in the speakers with or without sound. I tried all USB ports, including USB C. When the PC shuts down, there is a big click in the speakers. Nothing like this has ever happened when the sound card is connected to my desktop computer. This is likely due to a faulty PC or power unit or a bad filtered PSU, so I returned it today with great regret. I failed to solve this unpleasant problem. Now I hesitate to buy the SER7 for fear of having the same problems.
Hello again with great news !! As I really wanted the UM790 Pro, I reordered one and I've solved my ground loop problem with my USB sound card ! I simply made an electric cable without the ground connected, and it works like a charm :) Really great and I'm very happy to be able to use this wonderful machine. I hope this can help people who have such a problem. Regards.
On the gaming side, these devices excel as a lighter indie box. They also useful for emulation. I would never buy one of these to play Starfield and Witcher.
A couple of Amazon reviewers stated that to run Windows 11, you have to purchase the license for $200. Is this true? This makes the effective price $929. The competitive brands for the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS include Windows 11 with the purchase.

You got lucky my GTR 7 Pro never fixed 100% from the latest bios. Maybe bad RAM I think overheating of the memory sticks was to blame. Now this unit is fine no issues.
Has anyone compared something like this to an XBOX? I need a new office PC but would like to use it on the telly for games, considering it is so compact.
hi there, is it suitable for 4k 120hz desktop usage without fan noise? i have mini itx system with noctua fans and i wanna replace it with this product? but i hate fan noise. that's why i hesitate about this product.
And yet it was not every unit, so far so good here non pro GTR7. I suspect it was never an over heating issue because those who looked into it on the official forum found it was a memory power states issue. Someone fixed it by upgrading on stick to 64gb others while using linux and changing the memory power states something the bios should have added but they wont add it in.
@@_GarethRossUKYeah I saw that, bad memory traces on the MB can cause random reboots, but so can power state changes for the m.2 or PCIe devices. My desktop and work laptops experienced lots of random reboots until I halted power management and hibernation for M.2 and PCI devices. I've asked people who were experiencing the random reboots on the forums to try making changes to sleep, power & hibernation but not seen any response yet. M.2 devices really don't like changing power states.
Yes, I have a SER7 + LG C3 OLED and I can confirm it works. However, on Linux there's no way to output 4k @ 120 Hz with 4:4:4 via HDMI -- it works on Windows perfectly though. This is not a limitation of this specific computer, but a legal battle between AMD and HDMI consortium when on Linux. You can workaround this issue by using a Display Port 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 cable, which is exactly what I'm doing at the moment.
Instead of that type of charging, cable, they should've made it run on USB Type-C instead... It's a great PC but proprietary charging cable makes it a headache.
With my SER7 the only issue I've experienced is with all of the usb ports on it, with my Logi mouse/keyboard receiver. When I do anything like play games or use software, my mourse and keyboard lag. I just fix this by using an external device for it. Still annoying though.
Hi I have had that issue aswell, My daughter's computer U59 does the same with different brands of Wireless Keyboard/mouse sets, had to switch to wired. But it is not a Beelink thing as I had the same problem also with a DELL
White paper from Intel: The noise generated due to the USB 3.0 data spectrum can have an impact on radio receivers whose antenna is placed close to a USB 3.0 device and/or USB 3.0 connector. The noise is a broadband noise that cannot be filtered out, since it falls within the band of operation of the wireless device (2.4-2.5 GHz). The noise degrades the signal-to-noise ratio that the wireless receiver sees and limits its sensitivity. This then reduces the operating wireless range of the device. Improving the shielding on the USB 3.0 receptacle connector can help reduce the amount of noise radiated due to USB 3.0 signaling. In addition, shielding of the USB 3.0 peripheral device plays an important role in reducing the amount of noise radiated in the 2.4-2.5 GHz range. This is particularly critical for peripheral devices that are placed close to the PC platform, such as a flash drive. Placement of the wireless antenna should also be carefully considered on a platform and be located as far away as possible from a USB 3.0 connector and/or device.
Can you test something for me? Check if the M.2 is over heating with "Hardware Monitor" or "Crystal Disk Info" also set the device not to sleep, hibernate or to go into low power. Control Panel > Power - Turn sleep off and under advanced turn PCI power management off. In PowerShell disable hibernation - powercfg -h off Reason being even on my desktop if the system goes into sleep, changes the M.2 power state or PCI power the pc reboots.
Hey, just received my SER7. Want to run two screens, one with HDMI and one with USB-C. HDMI works when testing both monitors, but not USB-C. Have tried both USB-C ports in the back, with two different USB-C cables (new). Do you guys know how to fix this? Only seems to be a problem with Windows 11, not on my mac.
Hi there, I've just got my GTR 7 7840HS and was wondering if it's possible to update the BIOS. Currently, it has BIOS version GTRP01_P5C6V21 installed. Can I update it to Phx11HDF723002_GTR_P5C6V38_20240127095030?

Having previously bought a no brand generic Chinese laptop, never again will I buy another no brand computer. The quality control and reliability is just is just very very poor. Buy cheap, buy twice. I'm sticking to the established manufacturers who have the know how and who have honed their hardware & software engineering reliability over the years.
Beelink isn't no brand, non branded, unbranded, generic. Beelink has been around for well over a decade if not longer. And all credit to Beelink the customer support / services for replacement during warranty from what I've heard is very good. I've purchased the Teclast T6 Pro based on Chris review and another mini pc both have seen a lot of use sometimes all day and night no issues just minor nigles but nothing breaking. Infact this Teclast is lasting longer than any HP that I've had before those one drop and something would break. This teclast T6 has hit the floor a few times and nothing broke. It's all about knowing which brands to stick too. To brush it all with the same brush isn't fair at all.

I'd take the Ryzen 7 over Ryzen 9. Less heating issues with the Ryzen 9. Excellent mini-PC if BeeLink GTR7 Pro isn't available.
Will the BIOS allow you to use faster RAM?
No 5600 max. You can't overclock the ram either
Nice review.
Glad you enjoyed it
What is about 4k 120 Hz with HDMI? Does it work without any problems?
Yes, I have a SER7 + LG C3 OLED and I can confirm it works. However, on Linux there's no way to output 4k @ 120 Hz with 4:4:4 via HDMI -- it works on Windows perfectly though. This is not a limitation of this specific computer, but a legal battle between AMD and HDMI consortium when on Linux. You can workaround this issue by using a Display Port 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 cable, which is exactly what I'm doing at the moment.
Great review as always, although this time no thermo throttling, but this PC still perform not very good compare to other brands like minisforum.
Yes below due to the clock difference between the 7940HS Vs 7840HS.
I ended up using a usb extension to put the logitech usb receiver in direct site. This was the only way I could get no lag.
@@neoturfmasterMVS Yeah, this is a weird issue. I wonder if there is a proper fix.
Hi I have had that issue aswell, My daughter's computer U59 does the same with different brands of Wireless Keyboard/mouse sets, had to switch to wired. But it is not a Beelink thing as I had the same problem also with a DELL
Google search the following PDF and check out the summary on the page no. 21:
USB 3.0 Radio Frequency Interference Impact on 2.4 GHz Wireless Devices
White paper from Intel:
The noise generated due to the USB 3.0 data spectrum can have an impact on radio
receivers whose antenna is placed close to a USB 3.0 device and/or USB 3.0
connector. The noise is a broadband noise that cannot be filtered out, since it falls
within the band of operation of the wireless device (2.4-2.5 GHz). The noise degrades
the signal-to-noise ratio that the wireless receiver sees and limits its sensitivity. This
then reduces the operating wireless range of the device.
Improving the shielding on the USB 3.0 receptacle connector can help reduce the
amount of noise radiated due to USB 3.0 signaling. In addition, shielding of the USB
3.0 peripheral device plays an important role in reducing the amount of noise radiated
in the 2.4-2.5 GHz range. This is particularly critical for peripheral devices that are
placed close to the PC platform, such as a flash drive. Placement of the wireless
antenna should also be carefully considered on a platform and be located as far away
as possible from a USB 3.0 connector and/or device.
Currently having issues with my Beelink SER4 randomly powering off. I DO NOT recommend buying anything from this company.
Can you test something for me?
Check if the M.2 is over heating with "Hardware Monitor" or "Crystal Disk Info" also set the device not to sleep, hibernate or to go into low power.
Control Panel > Power - Turn sleep off and under advanced turn PCI power management off.
In PowerShell disable hibernation - powercfg -h off
Reason being even on my desktop if the system goes into sleep, changes the M.2 power state or PCI power the pc reboots.
Those tips there should fix it.
you try connect monitor throw type-c? on my ser7 doesnt work :(
Yes works fine with my type-c to HDMI cable and at 4k120hz
Hey, just received my SER7. Want to run two screens, one with HDMI and one with USB-C. HDMI works when testing both monitors, but not USB-C. Have tried both USB-C ports in the back, with two different USB-C cables (new). Do you guys know how to fix this? Only seems to be a problem with Windows 11, not on my mac.
Use the display port.
Display Port works just fine and you can buy a Display Port to HDMI cable in case your screen doesn't have Display Port.
At same price Minisforum mini PC with arc 730M gpu IS BETTER THAN THIS it has a rtx 4050 laptop level GPU
Hi there,
I've just got my GTR 7 7840HS and was wondering if it's possible to update the BIOS. Currently, it has BIOS version GTRP01_P5C6V21 installed. Can I update it to Phx11HDF723002_GTR_P5C6V38_20240127095030?
Yes they have bios updates so it will work fine
No external gpu support then?
Yes via Thunderbolt enclosures.
HDMI-CEC function, anyone knows if this is supported?
Would this be a good choice for a non-demanding home server/htpc?
It would be yes.
@@Techtablets
Cheers for the reply!
I will have to pick one up then.
How much would it cost right now?
Not sure right now 699 USD ?
@@Techtablets ok thanks 🙏
Love your reviews but I hope you foucs on budget mini PCs not the powerful ones. Most people use these as home labs and care about power consumption. Very very small percentage want a powerful one.
hello, anybody from Europe has experienced buying directly on the bee-link website ?? I am in France and would like to know if I have to pay taxes if I order the SER7 on the bee-link website ?? (I understand bee-link might have an european warehouse so I should not pay taxes if they send from there ...)
If their magnetic adaptor breaks, u cant replace it easily.
I am missing an affiliate link to buy the thing?😉
Oh I didn't add it maybe later on I will :) Just reviewing it not selling it.
Yes that's why I stopped buying and testing the Aliexpress ones always issues.
@@_GarethRossUK had numerous issues with their product as well. I agree with the commentor, Beelink isn't the best or reliable.
@@FraZzJ Yes as mentioned in the video I have to, so it's nice to see this model working as intended no issues over 6 days now pushing it hard.
Why the ugly CLR CMOS hole in the front?
He should go on quest to find barber that doesn’t hate him.
And yet the reviews are a cut above the rest 😛
Haha good one! 😅😅😅
UM790pro not stable (my personal experience). Ser7 not readily available yet so no comment.
Odd because my UM790 has been great no issues at all no random reboots or instability. Bios 1.01 out of the box.
@@Techtablets My um790pro had prob with the fan control and it went full blast as soon as i hit the power button. For the short time I had it, it did not reboot though (I had the barebone version with a fresh win11pro from win media creator)

NIce!
