I think the greatest sin of all kids TV programme voice overs, is that in England we got Ringo Starr for Thomas the Tank Engine … but I don’t think America did
WHAT?! You're right, we didn't and that is a travesty. 😔
They got George Carlin.
@@jamiewilson9280 I can't imagine a world where Thomas the Tank Engine doesn't sound like Ringo! 😑
@@nolaj114 America!
Apparently, on Shining Time Station, which featured parts of Thomas the Tank Engine, the US did get Ringo as Mr Conductor for a few years from 1989 until 1991 when George Carlin took over.
if you liked eddache and since you love jay foreman so much, i think youd enjoy a challenge video they made together with tomska! its called "24 Hours To Escape The Country - Tryhards". its on the tomska and friends channel and in it they all try to get as far away from london with 50 pounds in 24 hours as possible, it was really fun
In 1964 the US distributors wanted the Beatles' first film "A Hard Day's Night" to have the actors' voices overdubbed with Transatlantic accents so that "the kids in America can understand what they're saying". The Beatles, quite rightly, refused with Paul McCartney saying "If we can listen to a cowboy speaking f***in' Texan, they can listen to us speaking Liverpudlian."
Blue Peter is named after a naval flag.
Well now it just sounds like a pride flag for having a bellybutton fetish.
... and we are a seafaring nation!
It means "All persons should report on board as the vessel is about to proceed to sea" since you asked... or didn't.
Blue Peter is the longest running kids television programme in history.
@@steakandkidney3142 I already feel old for seeing the very first Doctor Who. Don't make me feel even older for remembering Leila Williams and Christopher Trace.
"whatever you say man, sorry. youre the man, the dude in the chair" - hello from Scotland. captions never help when Scottish people are on
the blue peter is a maritime flag flown to indicate a ship is about to leave port
To be fair, I think Spud's scene in the chair in the Trainspotting clip was intended to be kind of hard to understand, as in the scene he's purposely being weird so that they don't give him a job, in order for him to keep claiming unemployment benefit, if I remember correctly.
So even as someone from southern England, who has heard strong Scottish accents in the past many times, it did confuse me too, which I think was the point.
They dubbed mad max for the yanks, and had the cheek to call it the "English" dub 😂
Many English films have been dubbed too.
WHAT? ANDI PETERS was in Toy Story 2?! (checks Disney+ and IMDB) yes, yes he was! How did I, a Brit who grew up while he was on TV, not know?!
Now you know how I feel 😂
I remember watching that 'Andi Meets' show on a repeat some, i guess 20 years ago... and then immediately double checking my DVD. There he was, chucking bags into a plane!
As school kid with a handicapped brother when that Blue Peter episode came out, "Joey" was something I heard a lot.
its revenge for every advert clearly american in origin, dubbed with english actors with no lip sync
I remember that episode of Blue Peter and people calling others Joey Deacon as an insult afterwards
Many British animated films have parts changed for American audiences, such Wallace and Gromit Curse of the were rabbit some of the dialogue was changed and some of the British accents were toned down to make it more understandable for American audiences.
I presume you've got an agent for your acting work if so tell them to put you up for all the video game and animation roles they can. I've worked on games with some ace voice talent over the years and it's still amazing to me when I bump into the voice of a popular children's show getting a coffee as he's voicing a grizzly old sailor or something in a game :) There is so much of this sort of work out there and Nolan can't do it all on his own ;)
Many American kids did start talking with a British accent after they watched and consumed the accent through watching Pepper Pig. There are quite a few American news broadcasts about it, even British comedians like Russell Howard did a bit on his TV programme (Russell Howard's Good News). It's a decent programme to react to, if you're interested.👍
Having vocal problems while trying to say ‘vocal problems’ 😂😂😂😂😂
I always thought you'd have a great villain side kick voice 😂
On a similar line, the American version of Demolition Man released in the uk in the 90s featured Pizza Huts, not Taco Bells because TB wasn’t available in Europe.
JJ... love your content m8. Just wanted to message you on the product push. In this one there was a window the whole time for your mug (you have a thing with these mugs). For me to buy that it would cost about 60 dollars (incl. shipping and tax) landed. Don't see anyone doing that from Europe anytime soon, if they do, they might stalk you. Just a bit of feed back.
@@mmuzzwell3654 Same re shipping to Australia. I prefer to just "buy a coffee" for JJ now and then when I can as I am on a pension. I know what it's like to buy three onions instead of a bag!
According to other reactors, small children on the USA are picking up Australian accents from "Bluey". Revenge is sweet 😂
And a British accent from Pepper Pig.
I love this phenomenon so much.
I love that! My nieces and nephew have excellent British and Aussie accents because of this phenomenon and I think it's great. I can only imagine that it's good for the brain but also gives them endless options for comedy!
Conversely, a lot of my friends with kids site TH-cam as the reason they're picking up so many Americanisms. We're slowly moving towards a weird hybrid.
Why is the magic roundabout called doogal in the US
The US already has enough drugs problems without children getting in on the act. If you know, you know.
You have to watch trainspotting, it's awesome :)
US English is not always understood in UK inner view means a view inside something not an interview. Same with inner national means inside a nation not international.
The other way round US parents are concerned that their children are speaking with a UK accent from watching pepper pig.
Dont worry about laughing at the arm falling off,i did too.
That part about lepers reminds me off the story of the Two lepers fighting in the street and a Policeman walks up and stops the altercation and asks
"Why are you fighting"?
One of the lepers points at the other and says " He started it, he was dipping his bread in my neck !"
It does annoy me that my granddaughter often speaks American coz she watches so many American tv or internet things. Just little things like she ask me if we could make popsicals and I had no idea what she meant until I looked it up and realised she just wanted to make ice lollies.
I worked with kids for nearly 50 years and in my experience when they are cruel it comes from their home environment, whether laughing at people with disabilities or using racist slurs etc.
Very logical, I think you're right. I imagine most of the parents deflect responsibility too. Congrats on surviving the lil b*stards for so long! 😂
@@JJLAReacts The vast majority were lovely. Part of the problem is when a kid is really good at something or is a dominant personality, they can really change the dynamic of the playground, whether for good or ill.
My whole family 100% Scottish with strong accents.. yet my son (now 17) has no Scottish accent whatsoever and about 80% of the words he uses are American, ie Trash, Trunk etc thanks to him growing up watching mainly American TH-cam channels🤨😂x
There can't be a mention of the difficulties of language dubs without looking up "Monty Python Japanese dub" (it's subtitled back into English).
My favourite bit of inexplicable dubbing isn’t in an animation and people never believe me. But I have copies (sadly on VHS) of both versions. What is it? Mad Max, the original movie, which actually had what little dialogue there is dubbed from Australian English into American English. I am not making this up.
Oh weird! My memory of Mad Max has the Aussie accents so I dodged that somehow 😂
Jonathan Ross is famous,Larry King isn’t. Ringo Starr famous George Carlin not. It’s about perspective related to where you grew up. The Heeeeeres Johnny! quote in The Shining puzzled me for years growing up as obviously living in Britain, the quote was meaningless as I had no idea who Johnny Carson was.
But that was his left arm...
Jonathan Ross, also known as 'Wossy' due to his speech impediment (he is not afraid to joke about it himself), is a great talk show host in the UK. I didn't know he did voice acting!
"Acting" is a rather generous description...
It’s very lucrative financially l believe 😁
I think you'd have to fight Joe Pera for any voice roles :D
I teach in primary school in the UK. I swear half the children in my class think they are American. They use Americanisms like candy, gotten, chips (meaning crisps) etc and they are really shocked when I tell them that these are not British English words.
Gotten is originally from this side of the Atlantic shakespeare himself used it. Example Jack Cade hath gotten London bridge:
written 1590.
The word has been around long before America was colonized and many "American" words came from Britain and Europe. They preserved them we changed them
Candy is from the 1300s so definitely not originally American.
No such thing as British English. It's just English.
@@bearkinsbear8409 The problem there is that Shakespeare made up so many words himself (estimated at 1,000), he had a big impact on the English language, so Gotten might have been one he made up.
@@leec6707 This is true. There is English and Simplified English (the US dialect).
You could be a parody of the Hal 9000.
You can say disabled, as a disabled person myself that is fine. We as a community don’t like handicapped as that is a golf term. Not cripple or the s word or anything similar.
The leper warriors 😂
They must have been offended…. For lepers ..
If a movie version of 'Daily dose of internet' is ever made...............................
My favourite dubbing can be found on Chinese movies for the 70s and 80s. 🤣
The Water Margin was great for that, as was Monkey.
Should be an American dub of Jay Foreman so you can react to the reaction of the reaction of your voice...
@@Andrew.trotter 😄
Dubbing over the amazing Joan Rivers, when the character even looked like Joan Rivers was the one change which makes no sense.
The Scottish film Gregory 's Girl was dubbed with the same actors usin their best telephone voices. I've seen clips. It's weird and seems to have lost a lot of the humour.
Why on Earth would they redub Joan Rivers, especially as the character is clearly meant to BE Joan!
he is wrong. there is a localised regional voice swap on three of the resurrected corpses in the new dungeons and dragon's movie who were replaced by local comedy troop aunty donna in the Australian release.
I was at school when the Joey Deacon insults were widely used. I really hated it and it felt so awful to mock an elderly man. I still hate it and I'm 54 now!
It was rife in school back then
English dubs 😉
I am a shrek connoisseur and the uk version of shrek still has Larry king not Jonathan Ross.
Where did the Jonathan Ross clip come from if it's not real?
You might wanna pop in your Shrek 2 DVD then pal
@@Chiggins_ yeah the UK DVD i have is definitely Jonathan Ross
Ah, fascinating. What does Shrek taste like? Lime, seaweed?
@@JJLAReactshad a shrek cake once. It was just chocolate😔
Andi Peters: a terrible presenter, a terrible producer AND a terrible actor! (Celebrity Masterchef did reveal him to be a decent cook, so he does have some talent, just a shame it's got nothing to do with what he inexplicably does for a living...)
