It was so worth watching this to see your reaction.
As an aside, the scene was filmed in the home of Sir Jack Haywood, the then millionaire owner of Wolves football club. Just after the episode was first shown Wolves played their local rivals West Bromwich and absolutely hammered them. The match report in the Times started with "Wolves contribution to comedy was owner Sir Jack lending his home for the filming of Only Fools and Horses, West Brom's contribution to comedy was the team that they put on the pitch today"

When you see just past the end of the clip here you can see ‘Rodney’s’ shoulders start to go as he begins to corpse! Over Christmas on the "Gold" Channel I think, they played just about every episode back to back ! Its so popular they do it regularly especially on bank holidays so worth keeping an eye open. There are many fantastic episodes but one of my personal favs is " The jolly boys outing" ! Not the ideal one for you to start with as all the characters are well established and you need to know who they are really. I spose the best way is from the start. Don't be put off in the first 2 series or so, it takes a few episodes to really find its feet but well worth persevering ! In the words of the great Delboy " You know it makes sense", lol, enjoy !!!!!

You should definitely watch it in full. There's so much more to OFAH than its (brilliant) set pieces. John Sullivan, the creator/writer had such a brilliant grasp of what made his characters tick and over the years you really get to know them well, laugh at their funny moments, but grieve with them during sad moments - and there are many. His handling of balancing humour and pathos was nothing short of masterful.
What Sullivan and OFAH always did so brilliantly was follow up an incredibly dark or sad moment with a laugh that almost acted as a pressure valve - it does go to some very dark places and while it does always follow them up with a laugh, it never treats the darker moments as comedic themselves. Over the years you've got things like death, drug abuse, homelessness, divorce, organised crime, a rape accusation, miscarriage, elder abuse, poverty, domestic abuse - and they're all handled so incredibly sensitively, never making fun of the subject matter.
Watching the entire run, from 1981 really does get you in a brilliant mindset for, what was at the time, the grand finale in 1996. While the three Christmas specials that followed in 2001, 02 and 03 were not as bad as many people will tell you, if it had ended on 29th December 1996 as originally intended, it would have been regarded as one of the finest final episodes of TV comedy ever.
If you do decide to do a full watch (they're all on Britbox) then tread carefully before venturing beyond "Time On Our Hands".
It is of its time, so, like many things from the 80s, you might occasionally come across attitudes, behaviour and language that's not really acceptable anymore, but if you can look past those, you get, in Del and his brother Rodney, what I think is one of the finest TV relationships.

I'm not sure what the idea was other than to make money for the third party that paid for them. This clip was shown (no audio) with subtitles. @@LADYRAEUK Little bit of insight to the clip - that chandelier that crashed to the floor actually cost the BBC £6,000 in 1982 when this was made and it had to be shot in one take. That is around £25,000 in 2022 value. The producer ordered the two actors David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst not to laugh when it falls, otherwise he would fire them from the show. When it crashed to the floor, Nicholas saw the producer Ray Butt, sticking a handkerchief into his mouth to try and stop himself from burst out laughing during this one and only take.

Ah yes, perhaps the most memorable mess up of all from the 'dynamic duo' made more funny by the presence of dear old granddad.
In an interview David Jason (Del) said they'd been told it had to be a single take due to the cost and would be fired if they were unable to keep a straight face - which he said he just about managed but with extreme difficulty!
It was just pure shock value the first time I saw it as I totally wasn't expecting that to happen even though something usually does go wrong.
Any road it is pure comedy gold. Happy New Year!

This is a true story, the cast was told that they only had one chance to do this take. If they messed up the whole series under threat. Amazing to think that this was not only one of the most iconic moments in British Comedy history but also nearly the end of OFAH, due to the BBC pulling the funding. Thank god they got it right the first time! Love your reactions Amanda, perhaps you could check out some scenes with Trigger in them, such as the one where Rodney asks why he calls Rodney Dave from the council meeting.

I was once acosted by a woman in Sheffield a few years back doing a survey on bittled water, She asked me how many I could name, I began with the usual Perier, Buxton and such the likes, then I said " Peckhan Spring Water ". OOH she said " I have not heard of that brand " and wrote it down. I had a smile on my face as we parted company!

This scene was actually based on a true story the writer John Sullivan's father told him one time. When he said to him that he was gonna use it in the show his father didnt think it was a good idea and how could he make humour out of such a bad thing. After the show finished that night John apparently got a phone call from his father who had watched the episode that night saying "Son you're right, it is funny"

The whole scene was done in one shot. They only had one replica chandelier and the director told David and Nicholas that if they laughed or even smirked before he said "CUT!", he'd make sure they never worked in TV again. You can imagine how much willpower that took to keep a straight face. First class British comedy, the likes of which we will sadly never see again.
