      I'm still trying to figure out why he said it. I mean, I'm trying to figure out if there is a pun or something. I don't get it. Aside form putting a picture I don't want in my head in my head, why was it done?

      SuperSwordman1 he basically meant that realistically, fluttershy would only be competing if she did something that would give her an unnatural boost to her physical capabilities such as messing around with discord.

    This episode is not only my least favorite, but this episode confirmed my absolute hatred for Spitfire. I seriously despise her because I've seen this type of behavior in real professional athletes she demonstrated in this episode. I get it, Rainbow is probably a better flyer than Soarin, but how Spitfire treated her teammate is disgusting to me.
    I've always believed the saying, "Win as a team, lose as a team." Her attitude kills the episode for me, though it wasn't really alive to begin with.

      Racin' Mason YES!! I USED TO BE A SPITFIRE FAN BEFORE I SAW THIS EPISODE! I highly disliked how disloyal she was to Soarin, ESPECIALLY since he suffered from that injury! The continuity in the show makes things worse for her this episode because a previous episode The Wonderbolts Academy, Spitfire learned that you need to push yourself in the right direction! Not being reckless! You'd think she'd more considerate here.

    • @FastLane46
      @FastLane46 10 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      AkaTheSnake The part where Spitfire pissed me off the most was when Soarin revealed to Rainbow that nopony had visited him since his hospitalization. If MY teammate were injured, I would make damn sure I'd have time to practice and time to spend with my friend.

      I actually have an idea in my head (that sadly was made mostly unusable by "Parental Glidance") that Spitfire when trying to get into the Wonderbolts she was pretty dirty. Like Lightning Dust, only worse. Less subtly.
      And in case anyone wants to fight me on this, notice she only ever pulls back and does the right thing when she's directly confronted with being wrong.

    This episode had a lot of pandering in it. Too many background characters. Derpy overload. It's almost like they just made lots of Derpy appearances just to distract fans from the rest of the episode. And you're really not missing much if you miss the rest of it anyway.

      The current score says it all,majority of people agree with him,and so do I.I felt dirty and manipulated when I watched this episode with Derpy and all,and story is just plain stupid.
      Regardless,even If I don't agree with him,it doesn't matter, I mean I like Look before You Sleep,for SOME reason,but I'm ok with him tearing that ep apart.

      Like I said,I didn't liked this episode when it came out,so his review didn't change my mind.Also:
      "The current score does say it all The fact that he has so many dislikes against his like means most DO NOT agree, as well as the fact he has so few subs, Think about that
      other reviewers Get 0dislikes and 100's likes,"
      Bullshit,score says 290 vs 70 thats less then 1\4
      Also,Why? Why he must like every single episode in order MME get million subs?
      That's not goal of MME.Purpose of MME videos is to say his own opinions,point out flaws that some other reviewers don't point out and he has courage to do so.He swears,he attacks episode that he thinks are really bad because they deserve this treatment.Character bending,poor writing,pathetic mean spirited humor is not something we want on MLP show,MME points these flaws out and teaches us that poorly written fanfics does not deserve place in show of this caliber.
      He also praises instances of good episodes as well,pointing out good thinks giving them medals,and his live scoring system does show whats wrong with episode on fly.(score is shown to fluctuate during the review ,which I like,it feels natural,its like watching an episode with him in same room and debating while we are watching,clever)
      And also:
      Does every single fucking episode HAS to be liked?
      Don't you dare force me to like Boast Busters,Putting your Hoof Down or Feeling pinkie keen.I hate those with burning passion.Why? Because I think they are bad.Every fucking one has their own opinion.If you like every episode,fine,but I have my own points of view,and so does MME.

      Mr Enter never thinks differently of anyone who likes an episode he hates. He just expresses why the episode was bad in his mind.
      Also, a lot of people like me and Djekic didn't like the episode either before he reviewed it.
      I mean personally, other than Derpy coming back, nothing in this episode made me smile, or think that they had done anything clever or smart like they did previously. But hey, all show's have those few episodes that can't be as well made as the others..

    10:34 Whoa. You had a lot of good points in this review, but that was the most surprising one. I think the writers weakest point is creating new villains, but making pre-existing characters (that Rainbow Dash still looks up to) into jerks was also a terrible idea.

    Ponyvillie would not be out of the games entirely if the relay team had failed to qualify, they'd only be out of that event.

    • @Rajthecat1
      @Rajthecat1 11 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Actually, Dash said that they wanted Ponyville to qualify to "make it to the games", implying that if they don't win, Ponyville would have no longer had the chance to go to the games. That would mean if they didn't become one of the 4 or 5 teams to reach the goal, the CMC wouldn't be able to carry the Ponyville flag, making the episode pointless. Why they would not let Ponyville be unable to make it to the games because they disqualified in one event is FAR beyond me.

      ***** I think she means Ponyville making it to the games in Aerial Relay, or maaaaaybe that the event's the first one to do qualifications and if they qualify, Ponyville's in the games. It doens't make much sense to have a mandatory event, especially one that involves flying since that would eliminate the Crystal Empire, Appleoosa, and any other community with a negligible winged population from entering.

    • @Rajthecat1
      @Rajthecat1 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nyniuni
      Good point, but from what I've gathered, it seemed like by the games she meant the ACTUAL Equestria Games themselves, which is stupid as hell. Why would you make one event mandatory for your town, and if they don't win, you're instantly banned from the games? The episode didn't make it clear enough, which made it seem like she legit meant the Equestria Games.

    So many people at Equestria Daily and elsewhere list "Rainbow Falls" as their favourite episode of Season 4 - or at least Top 5. I don't understand why. MrEnter & VoiceOfReason are right; this episode is *_abysmal_*. It may actually be worse than "Spike at Your Service" and "Mysterious Mare-Do-Well". Corey really screwed up.
    In addition to the problems already mentioned, Twilight comes off as preachier than she needs to be, and I think that's due to the fact that the reasons she gives Rainbow Dash for not switching teams are the _wrong reasons_ (again, as mentioned). Don't get me wrong, I love that Derpy showed up. In fact, it was the highlight of the episode. BUT, the fact that Derpy's appearance is the best thing about RF is just further proof of how much it sucks.
    The worst part about it is this episode _could_ have been great... in the hands of a more competent writer (and maybe script editor). Renzetti never would've let this slide.
    Rainbow Dash episodes, in my opinion, are the most schizophrenic quality-wise, at least post-S1. MTBPW was enjoyable but MMDW - _the very next episode_ - was terrible. Read It And Weep was good again and Wonderbolt Academy was fine too. Then S4 completely screwed the pooch with Daring Don't (fun but shitty premise) and this trainwreck. And we still have one or two more Rainbow Dash episodes left in the season. Ugh.

    You know, i was thinking of writing a fan...thing for Soarin based of this episode.
    I call it "Soarin Away"
    While in the hospital, Soarin sees the other wonderbolts flying around with Rainbow Dash through a window. At first he thought they were too busy to visit him, but now he realizes he's being replaced. Heartbroken and deciding his wing had healed enough, he runs away that night. (The wing was almost fully healed by this time)
    The next day, Spitfire and Fleetfoot learn of Soarin's disappearance. Spitfire is seemingly still potrayed the way she was in this episode, and shrugs it off confident he'll come back, stating that "Besides, we've already got a replacement flyer." But throughout the course of the day and training, she keeps the news in her mind, seemingly getting more and more concerned yet hiding it from Rainbow and Fleetfoot. After he doesn't return after the day ends, Spitfire finally snaps out of her character from before and becomes worried sick about Soarin, recalling the times they had together and then her painful disloyalty to Soarin. (When she remembers this, tears flood her eyes) She and the other Wonderbolts fly into the dark night to look for him.
    Meanwhile, we see a lonely, tired, and sad Soarin wander along a railroad track. He comes across a poster for a traveling show of some sort and decides to sign up for shelter. A man who is part of the show's staff sees that Soarin is a pegasus and, quite amused, has the ringmaster of the show agree to sign him up. The men lock Soarin in a cage and their train hauls him away to their next stop. Happy to find a new home and wishing Ponyville good luck with the games underneath his breath, he falls asleep in a corner of his cage.
    The next morning, we see nearly everypony in Ponyville and Cloudsdale frantically looking for Soarin, a few of which are even holding apple pies. Spitfire has them look absolutely everywhere in the area with no luck. A pegasus tells her they found him and excites a glimmer of hope in her eyes, the pony he found is revealed-but sadly, it is only a scallion saleperson mare that only looks a little like Soarin. (Apparently Soarin's physical information had gotten messed up between ponies) Finally when a crying Spitfire walks onto the railroad tracks and runs on them in desperation to find her friend, with Fleetfoot and the WonderBolts in hot pursuit, her tail brushes by a pole which has the same poster for the show Soarin joined. Reading the locations, she starts to fly above the tracks along with the WonderBolts.
    Soarin wakes up to heavy vibration as the train stops at their destination. He is excited to be performing for the first time, and flies right inside as he is introduced. Then we see the show's crew abuse Soarin, such as squirting cream on his wings and making him carry clowns on his back, which nearly breaks his spine. When he sees one of the clowns offer him apple pie, he happily flies down to eat his favorite food, only to have the clown smash it on his head as the crowd laughs. He starts to feel a little homesick but then remembers the WonderBolt's disregard for him and with a little anger, he walks over to the ringmaster, who holds him up as the crowd cheers his name over and over again, making him feel even happier. We transition to that night, where Soarin is locked back into his cage. The ringmaster walks over to him, saying how proud he is of the pegasus until he sees his WonderBolt ID. Soarin agrees to have the show staff remove the ID and throw it away. Then the train starts up and they get moving again.
    Soarin wakes up that morning only to find the train is on a dangerous railway. He gets scared, worried they'll fall over. Turns out he's not the only one as animals all over the train are panicked by the height. When an elephant leans on a side of its cage, the cage falls over and pulls the train with it! Soarin luckily springs from his cage and attempts to push the train back on the tracks. He is just barely successful until he sees the ringmaster falling off the edge, and after he saves the train he dives down and saves the man from plummeting to his death. The rest of the crew praises Soarin, which makes Soarin recall Rainbow Dash saving him and the look of greed Spitfire had in her eyes as she praised Rainbow. Looking at them a certain way, he is frightened to learn they have the exact same look of greed.
    Spitfire and her team wake up and keep following the tracks, asking ponies along the way. One WonderBolt flies up to Spitfire holding Soarin's ID, which makes her even more scared of losing him.
    That's about all i have down for this. I haven't worked out how i'm going to reunite Soarin and Spitfire or where or when they're gonna do it. I intend to altleast try to redeem Spitfire's actions here.
    _Please don't hurt me..._

      Maybe at some point spitfire gets the same injury soarin originally got. She loses control midair and could easily slow herself down by spreading her wings in this gliding stance or repositioning herself for a softer landing but her guilt addled mind just lets it happen.
      Some begin to wonder if getting the same injury soarin had was intentional or if she’d intended something much much worse
      I got a little too into this

    Hmmm... Fluttershy entering for "civic duty," incompetantly created teams, and an emphasis on trying to bring back as many medals as possible. All signs point to Mayor Mare running the teams and I can't tell if this was intentional.

    What drove me nuts during this episode was all the missed opportunities to bring older characters back, and it would have fit the story perfectly,
    Remember Gilda and Lightning Dust?
    What if they were representing Cloudsdale?
    What if they challenged them on a personal level, that would lead to Rainbow Dash to push her team beyond what they could handle?
    I'm convinced they really forgot about Gilda, perhaps she'll show up at the Eqestia games with the other Griffons but I'm not holding my breath any more

    the only logical reason that Rainbow Dash chose Fluttershy and Bulk is that literally every other Pegasus in town was occupied. But this gets thrown out the window when they find Derpy i guess hiding in their luggage and decide to make her Rainbow's replacement. Look I know you're obligated to use Fluttershy for this episode because she's the only other mane 6 that's a pegasus other than Rainbow, but the entire scenario is insane to say the least.

    There are two major problems with this episode that I think you overlooked:
    1) The plot is so predictable that it's insulting. It's the exact same problem I had with Games Ponies Play. However, what that episode had over this one was that GPP had memorable comedic moments.
    2) Why are the Wonderbolts (except Soarin') made out to be dicks...again? What was the point of Spiitfire saving face at the end of Wonderbolt Academy if she was just going to repeat the same thing here? Why is Rainbow Dash allowing herself to forgive Spitfire twice for doing something that goes against her ideals/element? How many last minute half-hearted apologies will it take for RD to just say enough?
    I wish that the writers of the Wonderbolt Academy episode had Rainbow Dash just leave the Wonderbolts dream behind, and pursue some other athletic dream(like the Equestrian Games?) Like you said, there was no point in having the Wonderbolts be in the episode(same with Bulk Biceps.) All it does is make WBA pointless. It used to be one of my favorite episodes, until Rainbow Falls made it useless to me.

    After rewatching this episode and your review of it, it's now one of my least favorite episodes of the entire series. They made new characters for the other Mane 6 to inspire, with the exception of Discord in Twilight's Kingdom, so why couldn't they have done that here? It's like you said in the review, the writing decisions in this episode aren't just bad, they're sloppy and lazy. I have to agree with MME. This was a bad episode that could have been done a lot better to the point where it could have made sense and been a great episode. Think about it, we had Games ponies play, which introduced this story arc idea and gave us something big too look forward to in season 4 since it was confirmed that they will happen, we had Flight to the finish which revealed that the opening ceremony is a big part and is just as entertaining as most Olympic ceremonies are, and this episode showed us one of the best parts of any Olympics, the try outs. But the sad horrible truth is that it failed miserably with the try outs. Now the only thing that could make up for this story arc is bringing it to a close so no more mistakes could be made.

    I can't help but wonder if Scootaloo was supposed to be on the team, but then Corey Powell remembered she couldn't fly and just gave her role to Flutttershy without changing her lines thus explaining why Fluttershy says and dose things out of character in this episode. take the stuff she said after Rainbow saved Soren, now imagine Scootaloo saying them in full fan-girl mode, started to make sense now doesn't it

    There are so many plotholes, contradictions, contrived conveniences, stupid repetitive writing, dumb choices, mean-spirited acts & nonsensical turns this story provides.
    1) Yeah, why the fuck is Bulk Biceps not able to fly well!? That doesn't make any sense whatsoever! He has 10 Wing-Power, was amongst those specifically chosen to flight into a HURRICANE, AND was chosen to be amongst the Wonderbolts. So why the hell is he so utterly NERFED here!? This is almost as bad as what they did to Twilight in Power Ponies....hell, this is WORSE then Power Ponies. Are they trying to imply the Wonderbolts take ponies who are barely able to lift themselves off the ground!? Don't you think there'd be some kind of strict rules against that at what is basically an airborne military academy?
    2) Why would Fluttershy wanted to be involved in any kind of HUGE competition, even if it was for her friend's benefit? Is it because Rainbow Dash has confidence in Fluttershy now after the Hurricane incident? Maybe, but literally NOTHING was done to establish such a feeling if that's what they were going for. And last time I checked Fluttershy just BARELY managed to tip the scale in the Hurricane scenario...so maybe a better choice to represent Ponyville is necessary?
    And really? She wants to compete in a loud, Superbowl style event when she thinks Pinkie's cheering is "scary and loud?" How do you think an entire STADIUM filled with HUNDREDS OF SCREAMING PONIES is going to be, Fluttershy!? That is just grossly out of character for her; it's almost as bad as Dragon Quest, where Fluttershy was afraid to go out of the house to even watch a Dragon Migration despite literally STARING ONE DOWN.
    3) Why Bulk Biceps in particular? A background pony who accomplished nothing then saying "Yeaaahh!" As I mentioned before he's grossly out of character at not being able to fly here; but aren't there many, many, MANY other Pegasi in Ponyville to choose from? What about all the really fast ones who went into the Hurricane!? Granted I know Bulk as 10 Wing Power; but if we're just throwing that at the window why can't we get someone who's more capable?
    4) The Wonderbolts are beyond contrived. In the First Season, they're introduced as honorable top-speed flyers. In the Second Season, they're shown to be incredibly incompetent and offered no challenge to a fully grown Spike. In the Third Season, Spitfire is willing to reward Lightning Dust for willfully endangering (and nearly killing) all of Rainbow Dash's friends just because LD "had the extra edge". What kind of twisted military ideal lets someone advance in rank while nearly killing innocent civilians?!
    Now in Season 4, they want Rainbow Dash to join their team as soon as one of their friends gets hurt, not even giving said friend a chance to get back on his feet or at least even making sure he's okay.
    Why does the Element of LOYALTY, OF LOYALTY I REPEAT, LOOK UP TO THESE ASSHOLES!?
    5) The Element of LOYALTY (once again) is willing to fuck over he friends (and Ponyville as a whole) just to fly with her "heroes"; who are becoming worse and worse with each Season? *Facepalm*
    6) If she flew with the Wonderbolts to begin with, she'd be going against her own goal; having PONYVILLE qualify, not CLOUDSDALE. Didn't she think that she'd most likely become a social pariah in Ponyville if she did what she did!? Everyone would most likely hate her for it, like they did with the CMC in the Ponyville Confidential.
    7) THOSE are the reasons Twilight gives for Rainbow Dash to not join the Wonderbolts!? Really? Just for the benefit of her friends? Granted those are good reasons, but as MrE said and anyone else with HALF a brain cell could figure out; what about all the OTHER reasons!?!?!
    -The Qualifying Event would've been pointless as a result; it literally would've been nothing but wasted effort on everyone's part.
    -Fluttershy & Bulk Biceps (no matter how hideously OOC they may be) were doing this for HER. How betrayed would they feel if RD just said "I wanna be with the best and you guys aren't the best." Yeah, because that wouldn't demolish their sense of wort at all; even if it doesn't make sense since BB has 10 Wing-Power and got in the Wonderbolts Academy alongside Rainbow (despite the fact that they are kicking that continuity in its proverbial nutsack); along with the fact Fluttershy just barely managed to tip the scale on a hurricane, so she has little self-confidence in herself as it is.
    How come Rainbow Dash never develops ANY sort of moral conscious in this sort of area? And if she does it's completely gone within the next episode!
    -Scootaloo won't get to go if no other team qualifies, and it was established that RD could basically carry the whole team herself need be. If they don't qualify, Scootaloo will be crushed she can't go.
    And if even by some slim chance another Ponyville Team qualifies (keep in mind they're spitting in the face of Hurricane Fluttershy with how little actual SKILLED fliers there are in Ponyville) how does she think Scootaloo will feel when she learns her idol not only stabbed her in the back, but betrayed her entire community just to be with a better team!? And worst off, Rainbow Dash KNOWS this because Scootaloo confessed to RD that she is essentially her hero. So what, does Rainbow Dash just not care about Scootaloo? Is she really THAT shallow!?
    Fuck this episode; I hate to say it, this is worse then Power Ponies.
    And while I'm glad Derpy is back, (THRILLED ACTUALLY) her presence alone does not save the episode from failing. It doesn't matter if you polish a turd, it's still a turd.
    In short, Derpy being here is like the song "Babs Seed" in One Bad Apple.
    Having one good moment in a terrible episode DOES NOT IN ANY WAY save it from failing; no matter how much others plead that it does. If an episode like One Coarse Meal had one funny moment, would that redeem the entire episode? No, because the episode is fucking terrible; and that's how it is with One Bad Apple & Rainbow Falls as well.
    Oh yeah, Rainbow Falls alright.....right on it's/her face.

      Goremize Let me get this straight; stating my honest opinion about an episode...is being narrow-minded? Have you ever considered that I just happen to share the same opinion as the guy who made the review?
      I will not fight you on this, but stating my opinion is not being narrow-minded. Narrow-minded would be if I hated every episode of the show just for the sake of hating it and not trying to understand it's concept.
      Out of this entire Season so far, I only dislike Power Ponies & Rainbow Falls...everything else was fine for me; so I'd like to think I'm being fair. The only way my comment would've been "narrow-minded" is if I said I despised the episode, didn't give any reason for as of of why, and could not list any opinions why I hated it other than the fact that I hated it. At least I gave reasons for why I dislike it, all of which are credible.
      Flagging for someone for their opinion (if it's not yours and even if you don't like it) comes across as being unable to take criticism. And any and EVERY show is open to criticism, no matter how good the show is; Friendship is Magic does not escape that factor.

    0:47 The really sad part is, this particular problem could've easily been fixed: instead of Fluttershy, have Derpy be the third pegasus on Rainbow Dash's team. You would still have Rainbow Dash be the only really competent flyer on her team, and thus have her tempted to switch over to the Wonderbolts team.

    Here's another pony who could have been a better choice for the team: Twilight. Sure she's not all that athletic, but she's still a better choice then a pony who can barely stay airborne and a pony with stage fright so crippling she SHOULD HAVE coked and froze up at the qualifying rounds alone, let alone the competition. They had such a habit of shoehorning in Twilight and they actually passed up a chance to put her in where it would have made some fucking sense. Is it because she's a Princess? That doesn't seem to make sense as it wouldn't give her any advantage in a competitive race.

    Okay, I've stopped 1:29 in to the video and I'm going to say something to you Mr. Enter because you liked Hurrican Fluttershy as much as I did. Here's what I'm going to say, and I'm not saying it to force you to like this episode, but I want to explain something.
    Hurrican Fluttershy was two seasons ago. It's very easy for someone to change over an amount of time. Fluttershy to me is that kind of person who if given the chance tries her hardest to 'help her friends' she stood up to a Dragon, a Cockatrice, people who pushed her around, her friends at the end of bats. That's because she represents Kindness. I know that in Dragon Quest, it showed Fluttershy being frightened of Dragons again. But that just showed that when she was assertive she can get over her fears.
    HOWEVER, when someone needs her to do something, like let's say Rainbow Dash coming up to her and asking to fly in the olympics. I CAN SEE HER DOING IT! Because she can get over her fears! IT'S CALLED CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!
    Okay... I'm going to resume the video...

    • @chillerduu39
      @chillerduu39 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a fairly shy person (not even as shy as Fluttershy), even when I have to speak for my friends, I can get pretty nervous speaking in front of people no less competing in something. It had to be one heck of a development. And speaking in public (again, not even mentioning competing in a large competition) is a pretty common fear even if I am determined.

    • @TotalFreakZoid
      @TotalFreakZoid 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ChillerDuu I was a shy person at one time to... but when it comes to my friends I would do anything for them. Not to mention it was Rainbow Dash who helped her get past her fears. I'm not saying that Fluttershy isn't shy, I'm saying that ANYONE can get over their fears, even if it's something they're weak at. It's a stupid plot and I agree that Fluttershy shouldn't have been there. However, I will not say that Fluttershy can't do something she sets her mind to. We've already seen that she can.

    I don't think there's a single episode of MLP I hate more. Even episodes I generally dislike like "It's About Time" or "Games Ponies Play" have at least _one_ redeeming quality to them. "Rainbow Falls" has _nothing_, apart from Derpy returning, but that's not enough to save it.

      I hate when people say it's out of character. The ponies might not change but little things like traits can waver; and when a shy pony shows some more confidence you have to think more about "I wonder how this could be?" rather than "That doesn't make sense."

    • @Dadgamer
      @Dadgamer 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Anna Rays That is a very valid point. Writing a shy character only as an obnoxious sociopath wouldn't be entertaining at all. HOWEVER, putting a character into a setting just for him to utterly fail at it for 22 minutes doesn't really add to the character, nor the entertainment. I believe his point is, that there is no reason for Fluttershy to be in this setting and since she isn't the focus of the episode, it could have been any other non-important character. I personally found it quite painful to watch them trying so hard, when I know that there are a lot of other ponies better suited for the job.

    I think the time limit is the minimum time for a guaranteed qualification. It's like a track meet to qualify for the state tournament. They only take the top, let's call it 4, in an event if not enough people meet that limit. I'm assuming that Ponyville was competing after 4 teams had already broken that qualifying time. This would explain the need for a time limit, and it would also explain why 5 teams actually ended up qualifying. Unfortunately, that's pretty much all I can defend in this episode, it was just that bad.

    I respect Mr. Enter's opinons of course, but I'll (mildly) disagree here. "Rainbow falls" wasn't the best episode, but it wasn't the worst, either.
    (And BTW, neither were "Putting Your Hoof Down" or especially "Dragon Quest." But anyway...)
    1. I don't mind Bulk Biceps being retconned into a bad flier. They already did that with Twilight and FS's flying skill is all over the map depending on the script. I actually think that if they're going to make him a recurring character, it will make him much more interesting (did he bulk up to compensate for his puny wings? Is he channeling a lot of hurt because of his inability like Fluttershy and Scootaloo?) So i didn't consider that a big deal, as it just seemed like someone looked at Bulk as an actual character for the first time instead of a running gag.and worked out something interesting the writers might be able to do with him.
    2. The Wonderbolts were assholes this episode. So what? Every main and major secondary character have had their turn at being assholes too..Its just their turn this time. And really, people in real life have bouts of priggishness too no matter how nice they might otherwise be, so I don't mind just chalking it up to them just having a lapse. As least they didn't cause a riot like Twilight.
    3. Completely agree about RD's non-reasons for being on the relay team being nothing but a contrivance, the bad dialog, and the redundancy of half the main six. Like I said it wasn't the best episode.
    4. I'll reserve judgement for why FS is participating. I'm very sure the Equestria Games is going to be a major two-partner or such, and they might go further into why she is participating there. It might be she honestly is trying to break out of her shell and build her self-confidence and the lessons form past episodes are sticking. But we'll see.

    I don't see the wonderbolts as friends, I see them as a sports team, or organisation, and a competitive one at that. So if Spitfire thinks that one of hear team members aren't going to be as his 100%, she would switch out him to someone that she believes would increase their chances to win/qualify. That makes sense to me, what doesn't makes sense is why she tries to replace him with rainbow dash, and not another wonderbolt.

      The Duke of Flame
      As I've said long ago, I noticed the trend for Keys happening whenever one of the mane 6 teaches another their element. So with that line of logic in mind, Daring Don't would have been a MUCH better key episode. Think about it, besides the moral of dash placing Daring so high on a pedestal, she doesn't see her own worth, Daring Do learned sometimes it is helpful to be able to count on others

      And it seems I'm not the only one. Nickyv recently released a video entitled "Could Daring Don't have been Rainbow's Key episode?" • @HubPie3

    I can't agree more with this review. This episode raises more questions than any other episode from the show so far. In fact, I consider this to be the worst Rainbow Dash episode ever made. Mare-Do-Well had bad execution, whereas Rainbow Falls suffers from everything. There are episodes like Putting Your Hoof Down, Boast Busters, Spike At Your Service, and a few others that are blunders, and Rainbow Falls fits that group. The season is halfway over at this point, and the only other episodes that I've failed so far are Daring Don't and Power Ponies. I can safely say that Rainbow Falls is the worst S4 episode so far. Corey Powell, what happened to you? You wrote Sleepless in Ponyville, an episode that made me actually like Scootaloo. Were you under pressure? Did someone force you to write their fan fiction? If so, this is a sorry excuse for an episode. It may be the worst episode in the show for me. The fact that this is canon hurts me. Whereas Rarity and Pinkie had fantastic episodes about their keys, Rainbow's was horrible. I seriously hope Fluttershy's key episode is good, because so far, it's like the Micro-Series... *shudders*
    Overall, fuck Rainbow Falls. It's one of the worst episodes this show's ever made, and considering the fact that there are only 6 truly bad episodes of this show: Putting Your Hoof Down, Boast Busters, Spike At Your Service, The Show Stoppers, Mare-Do-Well, and this. Seriously, that Fluttershy key episode better be good.

      pcuspard That'll have to be the Breezies episode. I really hope that the episode takes place the same time Three's a Crowd does, since there was a mention of Breezies. Also, it'll have an excuse for Pinkie's behavior in Filli Vanneli. That really put me into a bad mood, because I love Pinkie, as she's my favorite of the Mane 6, but her actions... why?

      Yeah, I truly can't wait for the Applejack key episode their always seems to be at the very least a foil in every key episode: Rarity:Suri Rainbow: Spitfire Pinkie: Cheese Sandwich Twilight: CMC Fluttershy: Breezies Applejack: ?

      pcuspard Did Twilight Time's synopsis say that she's getting her key, or is the name a clue? I figured since Twilight's the main character, she'll get her key last. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but I hope we have most of the key episodes be good, because Rainbow's already failed.

      It's true Rainbow Falls failed hard... but Rarity Takes Manhattan was good, Pinkie Pride was good Let's hope Twilight Time and It ain't Easy with the Breezies are good and all the Applejack episodes this season were fantastic! 0:54 Fluttershy's and Bulk Biceps are in there because signed in to volunteer to be in the Equestria Games. Fluttershy, because she knew her fear would drift away when she is seen at a higher distance. This episode confirmed that Fluttershy has distant stage fright. Was it ever established she mentioned a distance in any other episode where she had to perform? Bulk Biceps, I'll get to him later. But he figured he'd good when he's got important tasks to accomplish. Again, was it ever established he WASN'T bad flying? And in fact, I'd add a point here.
    2:11 Pinkie, didn't really do any harm in my opinion. She's pretty much moral support.
    2:35 It's possible. Just look at Bulk Biceps in Wonderbolt Academy. He was actually trying to fly when all the others had no effort taken out to fly. This episode got Bulk Biceps, at one point, to be my favorite background pony. Bulk Biceps easily could've had a ten wing power, yes. Does that mean he's good at flying? No. Bulk Biceps got accepted into the Wonderbolt Academy, yes. Does that mean he's good at flying? No. Do they both say something about Bulk's muscle mass? Yes. It's actually good muscle mass. But muscle mass can only get you so far.
    3:36 The Equestria Games has a limited amount of space, so with all the pegasi in Ponyville, about eighty of them, there's a good chunk that wouldn't be as lucky as Fluttershy and Bulk Biceps, since either, they know Rainbow Dash the best out of the event leaders of the games or Rainbow Dash was the last one open and Bulk and Fluttershy happened to be the ones who signed in.
    4:05 Again, this episode confirmed that Fluttershy has distant stage fright.
    4:14 To be honest, I thank all of their moral support and it's going to be used later to help with Twilight's reasoning to Rainbow Dash's conflict.
    4:33 And they did. After all the effort in to the story, the animators were strained on time.
    4:56 Two of the worst athletes, yes, but is it possible? Yes.
    5:16 Or that they're practicing. It'd be cliche AND contrived if the worst athletes where good at that one thing they were chosen to do.
    5:27 And sign up mind you. Plus, they signed up when the signups were open.
    5:45 Sometimes, it's those techniques of exposition that shows a new writer knows what a concept comes to.
    6:02 Fluttershy is doing what the writer was doing too. They were seeing if they understood what was happening. Corey passed and Fluttershy did too.
    6:22 The Wonderbolts are looking for a replacement. All the other Wonderbolts are competing in other events. Every team needs to practice at all times, or they're automatically disqualified unless they take a break as it is scheduled, shown in that later scene with Twilight reasoning with Rainbow Dash's conflict. To add on to that, Spitfire's doing it for caution, in case Soarin doesn't get back to his team on time.
    6:36 Spitfire hasn't known Bulk Biceps before the Academy. Rainbow Dash has saved Spitfire numerous times. Bulk Biceps was put under the same workouts as Rainbow Dash but didn't handle it quite as well.
    7:19 Rarity hadn't covered the sports types yet. Give her some time.
    7:50 It's been Rainbow Dash's DREAM to become a Wonderbolt. And by flying for Cloudsdale, she's making HER dream come true. It's that heat of the moment, like in Hey Arnold The Movie where Helga says she loves Arnold.
    8:23 This is actually a technique that is used in real life. It confirms the phrase "the straw that broke the camel's back". If any of those points and those points alone replaced what was really in the episode, Rainbow Dash would not've reacted the way she did when Rarity, Applejack and Pinkie Pie were all mentioned. THEY are there for moral support! You can't have moral support without someone to support, which is both the smallest AND biggest reason not to fly for Cloudsdale.
    9:16 Derpy's one of the ones not to sign up. That much I can hypothesize. Plus, she's another friend of Rainbow Dash so she's the first pegasus to come to mind. The fact Corey chose Derpy is more about the fans ready to see that she's a friend of Rainbow Dash and her team called her in at first thought.
    10:04 They had to choose a replacement to keep the practice going. By now, the replacement would have so much catching up to do that Derpy was the first pony to come to mind.
    10:30 Something that will bite Spitfire and Fleet Foot in the flanks.
    12:03 Yes, I can't defend that. When an episode has a higher fan service ratio than even Double Rainboom, that's a problem.
    To be honest, I actually like this episode. It's actually structurally sound if enough thought is put into it. It seems "I" listened to problems that would've been problems out of any other context. That's why I don't think highly of Raining Helmets, my own Crazy Maze episode.

      Wow those are some good arguments. But Rainbow wanting fly with the Wonderbolts goes against her character development in Wonderbolts Academy. In that episode she left the academy because she felt they were doing something morally wrong even though it was her dream to be a wonderbolt. They just through that out the window in that episode, and then they referenced the episode. It just doesn't add up. Also Bulk Biceps did take a little longer to take off but he could still get off pretty fast and could fly just fine.

    While I agree this episode was bad, I am going to have to fight with you on Twilight. For a while now, people have been saying that she isn't acting like a princess, well here she kinda is. She is acting like Celestia in a way that she is trying to push her friend in the right direction instead of outright telling her what to do. And I think it is nice to see her mature to that point. She also said later on that not choosing is still a choice and that is also a good lesson. The episode is still awful but I feel like you glossed over some bits here and there.

    One thing that always bothered me is Rainbow is FROM Cloudsdale, is she not? I mean, I know she went to Rainbow Falls with the intention of qualifying for Ponyville, but how would it be such a great betrayal if she decided to compete for her hometown? It's like being born in Canada, moving to the US at an early age, then competing for the American team at the Olympics. Stuff like that happens all the time.

  • @akmalsy159
    @akmalsy159 11 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I accept this episode is one of the weaker ones in MLP, however I don't think MME gave recognition to its good moments. Such as RD's conflict, epiphany & confrontation, Twilight's advice (sure her reasons are weak, but she handled RD's dilemma rather princess-y), the aesthetics (Rainbow Falls looks gorgeous), and of course, Derpy's portrayal.
    Now while I disliked Spitfire & Fleetfoot's behavior, I don't think it was OOC, since their character was never concretely established in the first place. Again, I would like to note they are here competing as civilians, also their demeanor should be regarded as separate from the Wonderbolt's status & achievement.
    Also, I really don't get why people hated the Mane 6's presence in character-focused episodes, it's not like they were shoehorned into the plot. It was perfectly logical they would all go to support the Ponyville team (Rarity, being an aesthetics designer, were inexperienced with designing sportswear, which emphasizes on comfort & kinesiology), just regard them as background characters for this episode.
    About Fluttershy, I'd like to believe her character developed by having stage fright lessened after Putting Your Hoof Down & Hurricane Fluttershy, those were 2 seasons ago after all.
    Though the part I disliked the most was Bulk Biceps' & Fluttershy's flying abilities retcon, why can't the writers at least portray them as a capable flier? Second most is, Ponyville really cannot find anypony better to represent it? What happened to all the pegasi in HF?

    • @LonePianoist
      @LonePianoist 11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He explained how those "Good moments" were really weak. They could have been done better, but were played out weakly.
      The Mane 6's presence there wasn't bad since they were they to cheer. But any humor they tried to make with them failed and it felt pointless to put them there.
      And Fluttershy never clearly had stage fright lessened, It was shown she overcame it to help, but never that she had completely lost the fear. And her competing in a competition in front of thousands and being okay with it is total bullshit. She was basically in the midst of a tornado last time with the help of hundreds that wouldn't judge her for helping out, but still had thoughts that she was being judged. Here she's apparently supposed to fly with only two companions to complete an obstacle course in front of spectators who can and will judge her failure to fly competitively. You see the problem?
      And to answer your last question, that what made her and Bulk's presence there just sloppy fan-service.

    Let's see:
    _Two ponies who can't fly are entering a national sports competition that requires flight of their own accord_
    You see, just because a pegasus is good at flying, he is not forced to participate. Rainbow Dash most likely wanted to go to the Equestria Games and dragged Fluttershy with her (Just like she did in multiple other episodes) and Bulk Biceps because... he's bulky!
    Plus, having background ponies given major spotlight doesn't sound like a good idea, not only because they would be bland characters but also because having good athletes would make Rainbow Dash's conflict to have less impact
    _Absurdly redundant dialog_
    Not really, this one seems like you are forcing it because there are episodes with way worse dialog and yet you seem to love them, you even gave Flight to the Finish a top score
    _The Wonderbolts are incredibly villainized_
    Now, the problem with this gripe is that you are taking a morally incorrect action by a character (or in this case, multiple characters) and making it seem like an example of bad writing. We can't have a cast just with good guys who are good all the time, that would be boring as all hell. By that logic, episodes that actually had villains should be terrible just for that! Morally incorect actions are fine if it fits the alignment of the character and, before you say that it didn't in this case, you just have to let go of the headcanon that the Wonderbolts are this group of paragons.
    _Continuity is picked-and-choosed to the point where things in a certain episode are remembered, but others from the exact same episode are forgotten_
    It's called priorities. As you probably saw, this episode can be seen as a followup to Wonderbolt Academy, so it took elements from that episode such as the premise and took it in consideration, but they didn't do the same about Bulk Biceps because that is just a filler joke that is in a place where there used to be absolutely nothing! Canon might be nice, but it's not *THAT* nice, it doesn't decide whether an episode is good or bad, so why giving it so much credit?
    _Rainbow's conflict was not fleshed out nearly enough_
    It actually was. When compared to the pilot, this one actually had some sort of impact, it didn't feel forced, it had context to show up, there was tension, this was what Rainbow Dash's part of the pilot could have been IF the pilot had been good.
    _Rarity, Applejack and Pinkie were flanderized, pointless, or both_
    Look, you keep bringing up character flanderization in certain episodes and I am starting to think that you make this up because I don't see it at all, this coming from someone who has witnessed a lot of character flanderization in other shows and even in MLP:FiM (ie. The Mysterious Mare Do Well and the majority of S2). One can easily make the claim that this character has been flanderized even without knowing what that really means, because having a character doing something silly (But in character) for the sake of having a filler joke is not flanderization, it's just comedy and there is nothing wrong with that. Besides, those characters weren't the focus of the bloody episode, so of course their personalities had to be reduced in this particular episode so that we could pay attention to the characters that actually matter!
    _It's a rehash of many previous episodes_
    You know, there is a saying, "It's not about who does it first, but about who does it better"
    Honestly, I'm glad it took the conflict used in the pilot because the pilot fucking sucked, yet that specific conflict had a lot of (wasted) potential! What this episode did was taking that potential from the pilot and adding it the quality of Wonderbolt Academy, in which the outcome was something better than both

      I would actually add a minor nitpick, but I otherwise agree.
      Bulk Biceps sudden inability to fly well is a dumb, dumb thing.
      He got accepted into the Wonderbolt Academy, and was shown flying with no issue whatsoever in that episode.

    While I have a less harsh opinion of the episode than you do, but this review gave me the impression that it works like a stress ball. Blasting to pieces a bad episode actually relieves some stress and leaves relaxed feelings afterwards. At least that's how I felt watching this review XD.

    I'm tired of telling people this but: YOU CANNOT FLANDERIZE A CHARACTER IN ONE EPISODE! Flanderization is the amplification of minor traits over a long period of time. Not only that, the traits we see of Pinkie and Rarity are central concepts of their characters. AJ's behavior in this episode is at least something LIKE flanderization. One out of three is pretty bad.
    The term you're looking for is "simplification". Sure, it doesn't sound as fancy, but it's accurate to what's in the episode.
    That is why I thumbs downed your video. Not because I happen to like this episode, but that a lot of your criticism (whether it's right or wrong) was based on misunderstanding the definition of a word. Remind you of anyone?

    you do realize there are more events than one.... right? So their town can still qualify in other events, that's why they made that choppy dialogue with thunderlane..... cuz theres more than one event in the equestria games..? which means ponyville can have a chance at being in the games in other events... not that hard to understand.

    Umm...What Enter?
    First of all if Fluttershy had no character growth from Hurricane Fluttershy people would probably be complaining about that too. Fluttershy did show character growth in this episode, isn't that one of the main reasons most of us watch this show to begin with? To see the characters grow and not remain static?
    Also I really don't think the other characters were "shoe horned" in as you put it. They did show that they had a reason to be there.
    Not your best review Mr. Enter I'm sorry.

      @TheDorianTube 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree with this opinion regarding Fluttershy, but one good point doesn't justify a lot of others that are just really bad. Snowflake who can barely fly, Wonderbolts as evil brats and all the other reasons. Personally I was happy with Derpy, that scene has steal a 'HIIIIIIIIIIIIH' from me xD, but this episode was too bad. Ofc is just an opinion ( Sry for my bad Eng )

      Maybe, Ayu; but do you truly think that someone who was been scared of performing in front of crowds for her whole life would, after standing up to her fears once, be cheerfully willing to go the Olympics and compete? I've been scared of going on climbing walls since I was small, but I recently tried it and got over it. Do you think I want to go off and climb Mount Everest? No! I may be better with climbing, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to be doing something that I used to be afraid of unnecessarily (or especially cheerfully)! Besides, it usually takes more than just one time of facing your fears to get over them; it can take years depending on the person and how deeply-rooted the fear is.

    • @WillPennerson
      @WillPennerson 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Considering that she spent most of 'Hurricane Fluttershy' terrified of flying in front of others (who, note, mostly consisted of her friends and fellow towns-ponies), even if she was still terrified off screen, I really don't think Fluttershy would be the type to be cheerful in the midst of what would be (to her) a terrifying situation, especially considering that ponies from all over Equestria will be watching her (and maybe all of Equestria if the staff decides to write in, I don't know, crystal-vision screens for those at home).

      Goremize
      This........
      Mr Enter reviews each episode for the story, writing, humor, and overall entertainment. If something is wrong in those departments then he explains why. If you don't like people who review how these things contribute to how good the episode is then don't watch it.
      Also, every point volleyed at the viewers here is logical. At no point is there any reason he made that differed from what actually happened. And any point that was, was intended for humor in his reviews (which he included so watching his video's can be funny). If you don't like his opinion, don't listen to it.

    • @igamergirl14

    • @MysticMindAnalysis
      @MysticMindAnalysis 11 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If you don't watch the show to analyse it, why are you watching an analysis review of the episode? Analysis analyse the themes and mechanics of the show. Reviews evaluate how well they work. If you don't want to think critically about something, why do you come to videos that do think critically about it and complain?

  • @amybradu1767

    1:56, I think that they assumed that out of the several sports the town would qualify in at least one. Hell, maybe it is a rule that each town must get into at least one event.

      BlackWidowSoldier099 And in mine and Mr Enter's opinion, this episode failed on almost every front. And in Mr Enter's case, he defended his opinion. It's fine if you don't agree with his opinions and find enjoyment in this episode.

      So your saying now that he doesn't deserve many because of one of his opinions on ONE episode of show? Really? Thats like saying MLP is bad because one episode of it was terrible.
      Or like saying cartoons in general are bad because you watched one bad cartoon.

      ***** The developments on Bats were too out of the left field for me. This one, on the other hand, was enough for me to turn down my brain and just enjoy the ride. The major problem with this episode, methinks, is that with some minor tinkering it could have been great, as in, there's a better episode trying to come out of it and is hard for people to ignore the wasted potential.

  • @MRS4EVA
    @MRS4EVA 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why are they there? Who else would want to go up against the Wonderbolts? Only Rainbow Dash and the couple of fliers.
    Fluttershy is scared about Pinkie yelling suddenly in her face.
    BB couldn't fly, and the only current backing is fan-made (steroids).
    Rainbow Dash is working as a team, not alone. She has grown as a character.
    The rest of the Mane 6 are there for support & possibly to compete for other events.
    Of course, we don't know just how many events that there are, FS & BB could've been the only other pegusi who wanted to try going up against the Wonderbolts.
    Soarin could've been injured FOREVER from sporting, he might not have been able to be a Wonderbolt again, either.
    RD had to deal with loyalty: choosing between helping her friends or helping the Wonderbolts. Whomsoever she doesn't help is screwed. The pressure gets to her and she snaps.
    Do note that the writers like to write to the Bronies, that's why they added Derpy, but do note that this means that Derpy is a worse flier than Bulk Biceps.
    Also, do note that in regular sport training, some athletes have had their lives ruined by a single injury, even if their healed. Also, it is shown on multiple occasions that Rainbow thought that her team was bad, and she didn't want the Wonderbolts to lose out on the chance to even try.
    12:00 Just how did it have ALL of the references in the background? It had a couple, at most, but not even nearly half of them.
    Maybe next time try going into a review without wanting to hate it, okay?

  • @rentheadangelcollins

    Here's my biggest problem with the episode, which is NEVER addressed, both in the episode itself, and in the review you did: RD and Soarin are in the hospital, with FAKE injuries...HELLO?!! What hospital would allow that waste of space and resources?! I know EMTs HAVE to go to any calls they get, even bullshit ones. One of my friends is an EMT, I get the gist of it. But HOSPITALS do not accommodate for fake injuries. They try to get people out as soon as they can(obviously, without risking their patients' health) for space and resource concerns. One look at those two, and they'd be out of the place, possibly in cuffs.
