He’s not saying that would be worse off. He’s saying for Ben to get saved. That would uproot everything in his life his family most of all. His entire family would not understand and it might cause huge division in them. It doesn’t mean Ben shouldn’t come to Christ, it just means that would be a big thing for him to do and we should all pray that he does some day. It’s different when you grow up like Ben has. Their faith and respect for God is very real, but they still do not believe in any way that Jesus is Messiah. So in order for someone to do that, they would have to deny their own religion to follow Christ. Their family and community might condemn them for that. So it would be hard for Ben to go against his entire family’s faith if he said he was saved and was not going to deny Jesus Christ as savior any longer.

Klavan’s response was about as anti-Christian as one can get. If he really believed in Christ he would hope and pray that Shapiro would one day experience the love of Christ. On no grounds does a Christian hope that another person (especially one who he cares about) doesn’t find Christ because it might “make their family uncomfortable” or whatever. The gospel specifically tells us that following Christ may divide families. I’ve been a fan of Shapiro’s for a long time, including the times he mocked Christ which were quite insulting. But as of late he’s been insufferable with labeling everything even slightly critical of Israel or Jews as “anti-Semitic.” Does that also make saying “Merry Christmas” to a Jew anti-Semitic? It’s absurd. Christ is king. Deal with it.
I don't think that's what Klavan was saying in the context of the rest of his comments. I think he was describing one aspect of why people shouldn't be surprised that someone in Ben's position hasn't converted to Christianity just because they were told the gospel once or twice. Yes, of course we're called to leave everyone we love behind if it comes to a choice between them and the Lord. We should pray that people who come to see the truth have the strength for that. Meanwhile, as Christians we're not going to seriously convert anyone by taking an antagonistic stance toward them. Almost all the convert stories I've ever heard involved some Christian influence in their lives that was more reasonable, compassionate, and/or loving than the person expected.
This point is where evangelism fails. "I like you, but you do not accept Christ, therefore you are an unperson. Deal with it." All should see to it, then, that in catechetical work or in the preaching of the word of God they do not teach anything that does not conform to the truth of the Gospel and the spirit of Christ. Furthermore, in her rejection of every persecution against any man, the Church, mindful of the patrimony she shares with the Jews and moved not by political reasons but by the Gospel's spiritual love, decries hatred, persecutions, displays of anti-Semitism, directed against Jews at any time and by anyone. Besides, as the Church has always held and holds now, Christ underwent His passion and death freely, because of the sins of men and out of infinite love, in order that all may reach salvation. It is, therefore, the burden of the Church's preaching to proclaim the cross of Christ as the sign of God's all-embracing love and as the fountain from which every grace flows." Great video Trent. Please do a video about the relationship between Catholicism and Judaism, the trend of antisemitism among traditional Catholic podcasters, and debunking the anti Semitic conspiracy theories!
What do you do with Saint Louis IX who had explicit instructions to his son to never hire Jews in power, and died shortly after that. Was he guilty of the serious sin of antisemitism?
I doubt any of these people that the Church confirms are in heaven repented of the "serious sin of anti-semitism". So it can't really be a "serious sin" can it?
"Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain." Using Jesus' name as a weapon against people you hate is committing this sin.
I love most of Trent's content but this is bad. He misrepresents Chesterton. He says he'll play the whole clip of Nick's speech so he can't be accused of taking Nick out of context, but then he plays a deceptively edited clip of the speech and does actually take Nick out of context. Trent shows he is not able to deal with this issue in an honest and unbiased manner. Christ is King.
He did not misrepresent Chesterton. Nor did he take Nick out of context. If you think he did, then please put Fuentes' comment of "I love Hitler" and "[Hitler] is really cool" in context.
Pray for all the jews to return to Christ, look how astray they have gotten, to now being the attack dogs to any dissenting voice that ever questions what is clearly in opposition to peace, humanity, and God. Every knee will bend to the one true king.
I don't want to be antisemitic. What is antisemitic? The Catholic Church condemns all forms of antisemitism, so it MUST be a sin. But what is antisemitism? Is it sinful to criticize a Jewish person? Or even a Jewish law, custom, tradition, ... governmental policy of the State of Israel? If it is, did Jesus Christ commit this sin? He was for sure critical of some Pharisees, scribes, and a bunch of Jewish people. LORD have mercy, I hope we are not implying this.
Racial hatred is wrong. The Church should condemn it, but it should never make carve outs for specific groups. Why so much ink spilled and hands wrung regarding antisemitism but nothing regarding antisinoism?
Maybe watch the video. Trent is always very precise and would certainly not call antisemitism the criticisms you listed. Fuentes and his ilk, on the other hand, gladly criticize Jews broadly according to supposed innate ethnic characteristics.
@@ESteen0815 Well, I'm glad you feel so confident about what you think Trent means. I watched the whole video several times and I did not hear Trent say these things. I said he implied it. And he implied it was sinful. This is a serious assertion that puts souls at risk. I don't follow Fuentes (I have never listened to him). I don't know what he says. I would not criticize Jewish people based on their genetic properties. That would be not only anti-semitic, but racist. But I would criticize genocide, abortion, and pornography no matter who did it. Even if those persons were Jewish.
The Papal States segregated Jews for hundreds of years. Discrimination based on religion is not wrong. This was the practice throughout all of Christian history. Are you going to try to tell us hundreds of popes and saints were all just wrong on this issue and promoting evil? It’s obviously not wrong to discriminate based on religion. St.Louis IX for example burned all the talmuds in France due to the blasphemy the text promotes against Christ. Trent please read the canons of the fourth Lateran council. The church said Jews are not to hold public office, Jews are to wear clothing designating them as Jews and condemned Jewish usury. These are all canons from an ecumenical council. Yes the canons are no longer in use as all canons were abrogated into 1917 code but to hold Trent’s view you would have to say an ecumenical council of the church taught hate and anti semetism. Trent your view is not compatible with Catholicism and history. You should ask yourself why you are taking the word of secular non-Christian’s on this topic over the word of St. Thomas Aquinas.
This is unfortunately an L take. I agree with you 99% of the time. There are even things in this video I agree with. But you are unfortunately missing the true reason that this is a "controversial" thing to say. It's not because someone may or may not be using it in bad faith. It is "controversial" because they want ANY utterance of it to be viewed as anathema. This video, sadly, tries to cut the baby and cede ground which always ultimately cedes the entire fight. So no, Christ is King. I don't care how or why or by what other ulterior motives a person has for saying it. It is a true statement. If they have a problem hearing it screw them. If a person is using it for a nefarious reason, it is up to them to repent for using the Lord's name in vain. I'd rather have a billion Andrew Tates tweeting Christ is King than a billion Catholics scared of proclaiming it faithfully because society has made any utterance of it per se antisemitism.
Absolutely right! Context and evil acts have nothing to do with it - they are merely separate and should be judged as to whether they are hateful or antisemitic in terms of the intent, not the declaration of a statement of truth - I.e. what God said and, most importantly, what God is!
It's telling that in order for people to criticize Trent's take people have to misrepresent it. Trent was very clear that the statement alone is not controversial, but when people misappropriate scripture to hate their neighbors it becomes sinful.
@@Desert-Father yes, but in no way is it antisemitic or hateful towards the Jews or a certain ethnic group. Trent wasn't portraying the declaration of "Christ is King" as not being antisemitic; he left it open as though it could be depending on one's intent or action of hate. It is never ever antisemitic to announce or declare "Christ is King", even when one's actions show hate or prejudice (I.e. antisemitism) towards a jew or Jews. Trent's argument is too weak and could expose us to complaints of unwarranted hate crime.
@@seppe1701 yes, but what? Repeating a bad argument over and over does not improve it. If you use sacred things including the word of God in manners which are not of God or beneath his dignity, i.e. in the service of hate, prejudice bad intent towards a group of people, you blaspheme. Even Satan quoted scripture, but he did so to tempt Christ in opposition to God. That was blasphemous. We have been called to speak truth in charity. If your actions do not conform to the will of God and his commandments, then you will have no inheritance with him. "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord,' did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?

If you can debate Destiny, who’s actually advocated for violence and had an open marriage, then you can debate Nick Fuentes
The double standard used on Nick is astonishing. Christians and conservatives will accept Christ hating baby murderers in a sec and condemn a 24 year old Virgin who's never committed a crime and wants God supreme in his nation.
this is not a bad argument, ultimately the problem is that Fuentes is marginal while unfortunately destiny isn't.

Klavan has a gay son that is married to another man. Klaven says that this is not sinful, and he has also recently stated that Paul's teachings can be disregarded if there is any tension with what Jesus said in the Gospels. It's telling that this is not the scandal for the online Christian commentators but rather the fact that other Christians refuse to be silenced by people like Klavan with the profession that "Christ is King".(Basically saying Christ is our moral guide, not you) This is just more evidence that "antisemitism", a meaningless word that has been used to shut Christians up for too long, is the arch-sin that any Christian could ever commit in the minds of most people. Until we fix our moral compasses, we are destined to continue losing the war for the soul of our country.
Klavan is a heretic for asserting that Jesus death on the cross did NOT replace the old tribal Hebrew covenant with the new universal Christian covenant.

I believe some thing are legit anti-semitic, we must still keep some value of this word, but otherwise I agree!
I completely disagree with the idea that complaining about the over-representation of a group is bigoted. I would fully expect a non-Catholic to be uneasy by the fact that Catholics are over-represented in the supreme court, I think they would be wrong in this belief, I obviously wouldn't be uneasy because of it, but it is a completely reasonable position to hold for a non-Catholic. the same applies to the over representation of Jews.
Not to mention, the Church itself has issued magisterial injunctions saying that this particular group is not to holy public office over Christians. See Lateran IV, canon 69
Tbf both Catholics and jews are over represented in the Supreme Court lol
So true. Trent is still constrained in the liberal framework when he says this. This doesn't make me mad at Trent, we all have to break out of the post WW2 liberal consensus (the most recent iteration of the City of Man)
It does demonstrate that he is still influenced by modernism which is hardly surprising for a Ratzingerarian/JPII Catholic. To be clear Trent is not the enemy, he just doesn't understand how deep the rabbit hole goes.
This is another reason why we must reject evolutionism. Rejection of Christ the King goes all the way back to Cain and Abel and to Satan in the Garden. When you see these are mere stories of fiction as opposed to history, you don't see that this rejection is utterly ancient and inherited in a real sense. "Jerusalem Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets and stonest them that are sent unto thee" "his blood be upon us and our children".
It is right there, if you have eyes to see it.
@@Wagnersuperior Why would you expect non-catholics to be uneasy about it? Part of the process of the Supreme Court is to present arguments and to explain why they voted a certain way. Unless they're saying, "I voted this way because of my Church’s teaching." What is there to worry about?
Was the overturning of RvW due to there being Catholics on the court, or because RvW was a horrible decision that needed to be overturned since there is clearly no right to abortion in the constitution?
Even within religious and racial populations, there are differences. Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi are both Catholic, do you think prochoicers would have a problem with judges who think like them were on the Supreme Court? They are Catholic after all.
Look at how politically split Jews are. There are so many that are liberal democrats. What exactly is it about being a Jew that anyone should feel uneasy about them being overrepresented? Do they all think alike? What's the difference from being religiously Jewish, ethnically Jewish and culturally jewish. I've seen many people who clearly fit into each of these and not the others. What is a Jew exactly and what is it about them that makes people so uneasy.

Trent you're wasting everyone's time listing things that aren't antisemitic. So Candice Owens recent interview with that Rabbi shows, it doesn't matter what you think antisemitism is, whatever THEY call antisemitism is antisemitism.. criticism of the nation of Israel falls into that category
Yep I think Trent, just like many others, is completely glossing over the real issue at hand here. There is reason why not just saying "Christ is king" but saying that there is no salvation out side of Christ, the Good Friday prayer for the conversion of the Jews, the passion narrative read on Palm Sunday and other affirmations of the Catholic faith are called "problematic" and "antisemitic" by Jews. By their own definition of antisemitism which was given by the Rabbi that Candace interviewed, those affirmations fall into that category.
Even if those persons were Jewish.
a conversation between Nick Fuentes and Trent Horn would be great
“The dogma lives loudly within you.” Man… we should all aspire to hear that from hostile witnesses.
I hope you will discuss this with Nick in a long-form episode, thanks.
Sedevacantism is the only valid position now
Well said
“It’s all bad now cuz Holocaust and moustache man” is what it seems to boil down to
You are adding too much nuance to a weapon of the left that is as subtle as a brick to the face.
You should have a discussion with Nick Fuentes. Also, Christ is King!
Saw an interesting post on X just now about the deceptive editing being done here...
By which account?

Yes, Trent needs to apologize for this!
Im impressed! Well said!
Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.' " Mt. 7:21-23. There are a lot of commentors here that have forgotten this teaching. They claim to be Christian but they act without charity.
I worship Jesus, not the holocaust
That would definitely be considered antisemitic by the Rabbi Barclay crowd.

@@T_frog1 Well they'll never get tired of talking about it and making movies out of it. Jewish guilt trips create a lot of political leverage and that's what it's all about.

We don’t worship the holocaust. The holocaust was bad.
