Yes, I was a child extra in “There was a crooked man” and still have photos of when Norman Wisdom spent his last day signing autographs on Railway Road - a truly funny man, sadly missed.
@@Robbo8ball I thought I was doing it for free but was given a paper to go to the hall under the library and that’s where they paid people. My dad was very impressed and it went into my Martin’s Bank (later Barclays Bank ) chrome money box !
It would have been nice to mention Wardleys Printers, who supplied all the stationery to all the industries, banks and building societies in the town, also the schools and colleges. 😊
The highlight of Darwen's history is undoubtedly when I learned to swim in Darwen Baths! Bill
Haha yeah I forgot to put that in.
This is Brilliant and well narrated too
Thank you for your kind comment, I had fun making the video and researching the history 😊
My home town ❤

@starlight1867 Wow that’s good, I would have been happy to do that for free, it’s good you got paid. I hope you spent it on something fun.

Yes Wardleys are prominent in the local history but there’s lots of industry like Perspex, crown paints, Lower Darwen paper mill
@@Robbo8ball Wardleys supplied all those industries. I should know, I was an apprentice there..
It even has an award named after it (with a spelling mistake) .......Crown Paints needs a mention as does Vampire Vapes
Heritage centre? Is that what used to be the old careers office?
Hello 👋 I’m not sure what it was before, I’m sure someone else will have the answer!
The film was made in 1961 not 1931
Thank you my mistake, you are correct it was 1961👍
Once convinced an American that Darwen Tower was their Space Shot but they couldn't find enough dynamite to get it off the ground
Haha just seen this comment that’s funny!
Are you from Darwen? I’m from Davao too!

Yeah I don’t know what WPM refers to? Witton Park Mill?
00:32 Its not DARWIN its Darwen, pronounced Darwan or if you are local like me, Darran. Sorry, my pet hate. Great film though.
