Good question, I have been meaning to do a side by side comparison video. The 5040 are currently in my bedroom, I would say the 5040 provides a larger wider soundstage. The highs are alot sharper compared to the 5's, which at times can sound muffled in comparison (when used for home cinema). Sometimes I feel like removing their grills lol.
@@TechNick50 from measurements, I can see that the 5040 has a scooped out lower midrange/upper bass response, meaning it has to be near a boundry for it to sound right. Being scooped in such a region will definitely increase clarity to our human ears. I was thinkin of buying the 5040s until I saw the response as all my speakers are pulled out way into room, 1/3rd of the room to be exact. Sadly, the 5040 is not right for my situation but I really liked how it sounded up top. The instrument separation and soundstage was really wide which I prefer!
I would always bring CD's to demo a speaker cause Bluetooth will never be the same streaming from a phone as the original source CD...them large size speakers in the demo room are too large for that small room.
