    I recently bought a pair of these speakers and I am pleasantly surprised. Nice tone, wide spacious soundstage, and oddly enough big bass sound. Still breaking them in but regardless it's a nice exciting sound. Best of all is the WAF as my wife thinks they look good 👍

      Hi Steve, after much deliberation (and research) I bought a pair of Oberon 5's. They are powered by a Sony STR DN1080 amp amongst a home cinema set-up.
      The sound is superb with deep bass, great mid-range and fantastic with vocals.
      In a nutshell, they are very articulate with 'old' tracks having new life and even new artists (suggested by Amazon) sound amazing, something I didn't think possible as this 'new' music has never been on my radar.

    I had a pair of Oberon 5s and initially thought they were OK but further listening revealed a couple of flaws.
    At a certain frequency somewhere in the lower mid/upper base there is a very pronounced resonance which results in a droning /booming sound on certain tracks like (Your silent face) by New Order on Power corruption and lies for example and can sound hollow/cardboardy with some closed miked male singers, these flaws are highlighted more when the speakers are placed further apart so bringing them together helps (but doesnt cure)
    The other flaw i find is that the treble is rather shaded and Grey sounding which results in a little sparkle and sheen being lost but on the flipside that roll off can help with some thin sounding tracks, the crossover could be tweaked to help with this and the midrange suckout (Soundstage is well behind the speakers like you are sitting in a middle row at a concert than being down the front)
    The Dalis sounded wooly and dull played through a Marantz and improved vastly through a Rega ELex-R, but they really shined at their best hooked up to my Hegel H120 where the amp could grip the speakers drivers and supply it with proper tight bass, it not the watts that matter when driving speakers, its their current load driving capability and the Dali is a 4 Ohm load so likes a quality amplifier.
    In short, these speakers sound ordinary with budget amplifiers and sources but improve vastly with fed with a quality neutral amplifier.

      They're actually a 6 ohm speaker. Thankfully, I've not experienced any wooly or dull sound through my Marantz amp. Although, a 2 grand amp will definitely drive them better.

    • @gregoryfrassetti1276
      @gregoryfrassetti1276 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm currently driving them with my Sonos Amp and can't wait to hook them up to my Rega Brio. Little worried about the Rega which doesn't like to go down to 4 ohms, but like you mentioned it is typically a 6 ohm speaker. But my intention for the Dali is for my home theater setup. They should also be broken in with 100+ hours when I get back to them.

      I have a pair that I'm driving with a Bluesound Node 2i, Denafrips Ares ii dac and a Rogue Audio Sphinx v3 and I find it to be rather impressive. I feel like I probably have one of the best sounding rigs in the city! lol And the Wife acceptance factor is huge! 🇺🇦🇺🇸🤜

    I nearly got rid of mine after a week or two- these need a lot of burn in to settle - for me it was well over 100hrs before the boxiness completely disappeared and even low listening levels became a delight. Bass is wonderful and fills my medium listening room just fine. I wouldn’t pair them with a warm amp as they are already quite warm.

    I've had my Oberon's for a year now, out of the box I didn't like them, they sounded boomy & boxy, the cabinet lining was almost see through, so I wedged some pieces of wool wadding behind the drivers at the back of the cabinet and filled the gap down to the bass port as well, problem solved, these speakers sound great with my Denon pma 800, a great match, to hear the problem with these speakers, just play the Carcass album Heartwork, 1st song, the guitars just drown everything else out, the snare also sounds like it has reverb overload, if you like the sound out the box as many people do that's great but if you don't....

    Hi, just wondering if you have compared the 5s with the 7s. The price difference is not much, Ate the 7s better? I have ability to test any equipment. I’m considering Dali 5s or 7s with a Marantz PM6007. Thanks.

    • @UTILITARIANTVUK
      @UTILITARIANTVUK  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've not tried the 7s but the 5s are very good. I suppose it depends on the size of your room. If you have a particularly large room, go for the 7s.

    What are your thoughts on the dali oberon 5 vs polk r500 assuming you have heard the r500? I am torn between these two and don't know which one to go for.

      @@UTILITARIANTVUK Unfortunately, there are zero stores located in my city. I have wharfedale diamond 12.2 with quad vena and audiolab 6000a amp and rose technics rt5000 dac with polk hts12 subwoofer. Do you think it would be worth upgrading to the Oberon 5? Is the midrange recessed in the oberon 5?

    Will these work well with a Rega brio R? I have a fair sized large ish living room too. Will i be better off with the 7s?

    • @UTILITARIANTVUK
      @UTILITARIANTVUK  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If it were me, I'd go for the 5's. The 7's go a bit lower but the bass is not as tight and agile as the 5s.

      @@UTILITARIANTVUK watching your videos makes me more and more tempted to go for the 5s, some people say the 7s are better for a larger livingroom? I've got my stereo system at one end of the living room but very tempted to have it all together with the TV where there is a little half wall dividing the living room. Well as long as the size of the room doesn't matter I'm leaning more and more towards the 5s.

    The Diamond 230’s are killer at £269 a pair. Not sure the Dali are worth £749 in comparison? Just my take but keep those Diamond 230’s.

    • @UTILITARIANTVUK
      @UTILITARIANTVUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I doubt you'd get a better speaker at under £300. The 230s are incredible for the price they are at the moment. The Dali's IMO are more detailed and refined. But maybe not £500 more refined!

      The 230s are great value for money but they would not be a direct comparison to Dali Oberon 5 on any level.
      The 220s are a great set of bookcase speakers as well but are not going to directly compared to a set of Dali at twice the price.
      To the average person the 230s are going to sound great and meet 100% of their needs. I think they may have been discontinued though.
