one of my favorite wild mushrooms. Here is a tip, if you want to continue enjoying them, only take 1/2 of what you find. If you find 2 growing, only take 1...if you find 4 only take 2. If you only find 1, leave it. They need the other one to release its spores for the next years growth.

Joe, when I was a much younger gal..grampa and me would go out and pick wild mushrooms...and the big puff balls... mother would have the three frying pans ready to go...her secret was bacon grease...the rest of us would make a few loaves of bread into toast...and wait until the mushrooms where plattered up and put on the table...then we would all dig in....chow down on this wonderful nature's treat..just used good old salt and pepper...mother would make excellent mushroom soup from the remaining mushrooms...but I always manage to sneak one last toasted mushroom sandwich.. before she added them to her soup pot... Thanks for sharing...

We used to have them growing around our bus station as kids and we'd kick them around and throw them at each other. The bus driver and adults nearby would be in shock thinking that we would get sick. I remember this kid went deeper into the woods behind the bus station and kicked a bunch of mushrooms and when he came back his shoes were like juicy and sticky from just nasty nasty stuff and once he realized it he started crying and we all were scared cause it loooked soooooo nasty lmfao. He was just crying his eyes out. We were just elementary kids 6th graders being the oldest lol

Nice Video, We love them. Just Olive oil, salt, black pepper and some garlic powder; texture is a little like scrambled eggs. Just remember, mushrooms absorb chemicals; never eat them from a lawn that sprays pesticides or roundup etc. It is great to find these in the woods; nice treat to have on occasion .

As you said that at the end I was thinking you must have survived the meal if I was watching this. I was raised on a reservation in Hayward WI we ate many things from the forests but I don't remember those being that big and I was told the same thing about blinding or poises as a child. If I ever visit Hayward Superior or Silver Bay all places with family again I look forward to trying some. Thanks for the reminders of childhood and what it is like in that climate I so miss some of it.

Wow, what freakishly large mushrooms. And the inside of it is not at all what I expected. Odd thing. I think you are right in thinking of larger cuts with breading on it would be good.

Ate them as a kid here in Michigan. We found ones as big as a pumpkin😱. Yes they're good. But my favorite of all the wild mushrooms I ate growing up were shaggy manes. Yum👍

do not add any seasoning flavors... just a bit of salt ans pepper. and if you want them to soak less butter, just sprinkle them with a bit of flour and then brush of the excess of flour before adding it the pan. I do not use butter when i prepare them, i just brush them with olive oil before i put them in the pan and let them cook on each side without touching them too much until they are golden color? then i flip them brushing again with olive oil if needed. Delicious. I add a bit of crushed garlic and some finely chopped parsley in a bit of olive oil (like a fine paste) and just toss the mushroom pieces a few minutes before taking the mushroom pieces out from the pan. Delicious!!!

Lol from the thumb nail I thought it was an ostrich egg. Never seen a mushroom like that but i remember stepping on what I thought was some sort of spore & dust flew out. So I must’ve missed when it when it was in season. looks ginormous. love mushrooms 🍄 . That size mushroom would be like the “other white meat” . my fav - fried mushrooms with real ranch dip, sour cream and a ranch dip pouch. I watch a lot of cooking shows, camp cooking they never used one like that. Did ya see any little people? 😉

When I was a kid, it was all about morels. I had had a canned mushroom on a pizza or something once and decided that mushrooms were gross, but I loved to go hunt morels with my dad and grandpa. We'd haul out grocery bags of them. They'd clean them, brine them, and then bread and fry them as an appetizer. Finally, my mom convinced me to try a little piece. The heavens opened up and the angels sang. I probably ate about 10 in that one sitting. They were just a part of my childhood. I had no idea that we were eating something that was an expensive delicacy. To me, they were free.... just go out in the woods and find them!
