As per Bills of Exchange Act 1914 a negotiable instrument is a document guaranteeing the payment of a specific amount of money, either on demand, or at a set time, with the payer named on the document. More specifically, it is a document contemplated by or consisting of a contract, which promises the payment of money without condition, which may be paid either on demand or at a future date. Likewise promissory note and cheque follows all criteria. So cheque is called a negotiable instrument..sir please rectify if there is any wrong under standing in my study.

Sir hum jab kisi ko check dete h to sign back side b humhe karna hota h kya ya jo jisko check diya h vo back side sign karega or kya teller k pass jab vo check lekar jata h to kya teller bank adjikari hamare pass phone karta h kya ki aapne kisi ko check diya h yes or no bataiye check verificatiln k liy phone karta h ya nahi
Sir, you have made a mistake. Crossed cheque with just parallel lines can be endorsed while crossed cheque with A/c Payee can't be endorsed apart from that both are non encashable.
because it can be used in place of money. if x person want to give some money to y then he can issue a cheque in place of money that's why it called a negotiable instrument.
sir can you please tell how a gift cheque is encashed? i mean we don't take the huge cheque won in reality shows etc to the bank?? then what is the encashment procedure?
