    I'm such a casual player that I don't even look a base stats; I just use a Pokemon if I think it looks cool, which seems to have worked for the last almost 10 years.

      Your mum Perhaps Reddit's Breeding Dittos forum? However, they're all hacked Dittos (but any offspring they have are 100% legit) so you can't enter them in competitions. The thing is that you have to be at least 2 weeks old on Reddit so that's a downside.

      @@jamesbenson2090 agreed!
      I remember playing through pokemon reborn the casual way and getting bodied in every gym cuz I didn't know anything about EVs and IVs
      When I played pokemon clover the game told me to try out EV training and that it wasn't that hard
      Sooo I kinda got carried away and EV trained every single pokemon I caught
      After that I lost my reborn save file due to a windows update and had to restart
      But now I have the knowledge of EVs and IVs
      I kid you not,I spent weeks trying to get 15 badges last time and it only took me 4 days with EV training
      It also gave me around 8 shinies during grinds!
      It's really fun to see the enemies I once struggled to beat get bodied by my almost perfect 5 max IVs Silvally
      tho EVs are easily earned with the power items and Macho brace
      IVs are annoying asf
      So I just installed a mod where if my pokemon's EVs in one stat gets reaches 252 without using up the 508 max limit I get the chance to Increases their IVs
      WHICH SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED TO THE MAIN GAMES IMO

    I have a love-hate relationship with EV-IV. Before,
    I was happily playing Pokemon and defeating random Pokemon to level up. But now that I know what EV-IV were all about, I can't help but get this urge to do everything right.. defeat hundreds of the right EV yields...get the max EVs.. only to despair because getting the perfect IV is just harder than winning the million-dollar lottery.
    For those "RPG-OCD-open-every-chests-perfectionists" among us, the knowledge of EV-IV is like a Pandora's Box.

    I hate IVs. They are terrible, and add almost nothing to the game. Don't get me wrong, I love competitive Pokemon, but let me ask you: what do IVs add to that? You never want a middling IV in a stat, and the only time you don't want a 31 is when you want a 0 in speed (technically you could also want 0 in attack for a special attacker to weaken confusion and Foul Play, but that's really minor and often not worth the trouble) or a 1/30 in a stat for Hidden Power. In other words, all that IVs do for the competitive game is make raising Pokemon take more time.
    Contrast and compare with EVs and Natures. Unlike IVs, you can't perfect every stat with these. With EVs, you have to select which stats to raise, and by how much, and with Natures you have to choose which stat you're willing to sacrifice for another. Sure, some species of Pokemon will pretty much always use a specific nature, but some can use a variety for different sets. And EVs are even more flexible, allowing sets catered specifically to deal with threats to you team. What's more, neither of these take long at all if you have the patience to get the necessary tools beforehand (the power items, and Dittos with the natures you want).
    Now I've heard two arguments for IVs. The first is that it makes each Pokemon 'special'. Your Pikachu is unlikely to be like anyone else's Pikachu. And while that is valid for casual play, casual players are unlikely to know that IVs even exist. And when they do find out, they probably won't be pleased that they can't use their Pokemon that they journeyed with for competitive battling because they're 'special'.
    The second argument is that it gives a sense of reward when you finally breed and train the perfect Pokemon. This is dumb. Breeding is not hard, it's just tedious. You don't feel accomplished - you feel RELIEVED. I sure don't feel accomplished for having spent hours circling round an island and forcing a 6IV Ditto to breed with its offspring over and over again. Oh, by the way, that's another problem with IVs - they're incredibly unfriendly to people just entering the competitive scene. Even with the improvements that have been made (thank you for the Destiny Knot Game Freak) they're worth diddly squat if you don't have at least one good starting parent. Or are willing to use a complicated process of breeding with 2IV Dittos from the Friend Safari. Which takes SO much time. >:(
    So yes, I hate IVs, and think the games would be better without them.

      No iv is what you are born with genetics, if a polemon have per max iv when catch in the wild is stats will max out at level 100 now as ev even if you train your polemon hard enough, just because he dont have max iv some competitor or other pokemon you beat in battle give it a few points so when it reach level 100 he didnt reach is max stats, basically perfect iv means u can use rare candy on get your pokemon to level 100 and his stats will be max out in all his stats like for example mewtwo max iv mewtwo have 319 attack if you catch a mewtwo with max iv attack stats level 100 he will have 319 attack and for example you catch a mewtwo with iv that is not max gene at level 100 his attack might only be 280 u get it, but the point is to get a perfect max iv so all is stats is max not just attack and defense or speed and spy attack

    The thing about EVs and IVs is that you pretty much have to learn about them and employ these methods in training your Pokemon if you're going to do well in online play. So many people train their Pokemon this way that if you just level up your monsters in a casual way, you most likely won't stand much of a chance in battle. I've learned this through using Pokemon I've caught and trained in the story modes of my games and used them in online play. My Torterra who plowed his way through the Sinnoh region cannot hold his own on the internet.
    So....even though I don't like the whole EV/IV. I'm kind of forcing myself to learn about them out of necessity. You got to keep up with competition after all. :-/

    • @WomanSlayer69420
      @WomanSlayer69420 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be fair, the number one cause of losing in organized competitive isn’t about bad IVs or EVs, but bad movesets, lack of knowledge in the enemy’s units, (such as what moves they can and cannot learn) and falling for traps. A lot of people have the wrong mindset that they could stomp anything with better Pokémon, but that’s not always the case and there is still a lot of strategy involved in battles.

    • @evanminton8315
      @evanminton8315 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WomanSlayer69420 Dude, I had movesets and strategies downpat. But if your Salamance can’t put speed your opponent, it doesn’t matter that it’s move set is great. If you can’t get the one hit or two hit KO, your overall strategy means nothing.
      You need all these; good EVs, good IVs , good move sets, the right synergy between team members, etc.

      @@WomanSlayer69420 Sometimes one stat difference can mean the difference between a win and a loss. It’s like swimmers shaving their legs so they can have that ever so slightly advantage due to decreased water resistance. They might need to get just a tiny bit ahead to win the championship. EVs are like muscles. The more you use em the stronger you get. Beating certain mons will train certain "muscles". IVs are genetics, like eye or skin colour. Some people are born to run faster than others (eg usain bolt), and, to the same amount of training, will have different level of skills (if from birth you and usain bolt train together he will still be faster than you anyways)

      TheUltimateOne775 basically ev training is just rearranging your pokemon stats the way you want it. let's say you have a tyranitar with 80 def stat and 90 speed stat well that's good right? wrong, tyranitar is suppose to be walls, support, he knows Curse a move that ups your defense and attacks while lowering speed so increasing speed is kinda pointless
      SO what you wanna do is get all that speed stat into defense stat. so all it need is def stats, so you go find a nature that boost def stat and lowers speed stat for example, sassy nature. use an everstone to get your desired nature, cuz it passes down nature from the holder.
      next, you use the iron vitamins to increase def. and don't even dare touch the carbos that increase speed. after the vitamins just go max out your evs by fighting a bunch of geodude and metapod who would give you defense ev. fighting is the key in ev training.
      and iv breeding? it's kinda hard to do it before gen 6, basically you go and look for a larvitar that has 31 defense iv stats. (1 iv stats = 1 normal stats) just drop two larvitars off the daycare and run around til you get the perfect pokemon. also you need to replace the pokemon with bad ivs with "better" ivs in the daycare cuz the pokemon will inherit 3 random iv stats from the parents

      TheUltimateOne775 you are not alone and honestly I just ignore EVs and IVs in general and just pick a few moves look at the nature if nature matches up with what I want then I train it, if they don't then just super train them now (before I just played the game with what I got) honestly what I'm more concerned about is why everyone must make something fun into a competition

    Guys, IVS are NOT that terrible anymore. In gen 6, an item called the "destiny knot" was upgraded. It allows you to carry over 5 random IVS from both the parents. Now, it takes about 2 hours to make one your first time, due to ALL pokemon in the friends safari having at least 2 perfect IVS. After that, you use those pokemon as parents. Or you could just cheat a perfect IV ditto and get em all in like 15 minutes.
    But crap, that Chansey with perfect IVS and Aromatherapy was a pain.

      @panq8904 10 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      If EV's and IV's improve a pokemon's chances in online battles then they certainly aren't a waste of time. And you say you've beaten plenty of people who use EV's and IV's but: 1: How do you know they're breeding for IV's and EV training?, that would take a hell of a lot of math.
      2: What Pokémon are you using? You could be using ubers against people asking for RU or UU battles for all we know.
      3: Are you utilising natures, abilities and items? Which are also pretty important in winning online battles.

    • @michaelwilson9241
      @michaelwilson9241 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mostly just using type match up and moves that will be effective like toxic well using moves like recover and i know they or well they told me they have via form,and other sites but mostly type match up i know the basic of pokemon and i know stat isn't that important if you one hit kill them.
      I use mostly healing item then my mega pokemon.
      I also won a battle where i had with Smeargle iron def and Amnesia (Took a long time and a few trading for him to learn both) but he also know toxic and recover.(dont think i beat a experience player here)
      But I don't do many on-line battle i mostly restart my 2nd game and do solo games with different pokemon or type teams

    • @panq8904
      @panq8904 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Michael Wilson True, with online battles it is more about experience and skill, a good battler would have had a poison type, steel type or a Pokémon with heal bell to prevent Toxic stallers or a wallbreaker that knows a good fighting type move to KO Smeargle before it could set up properly(I myself would have used my Klefki or bronzong with heal block or on my more offensive team, my Special Atk Mega Lucario, no one expects a special based one for some reason), If you're winning using type matchups and that then you're going up against some pretty bad competition, most battlers build teams that cover most types while giving Pokémon a good set of moves to cover that teams weaknesses, I just started competitive battling this Gen and team coverage is always my top priority. EV's and IV's are good for some in game areas like the battle frontiers, I RNG'd and EV trained a good team that swept through the frontier in my Heart Gold version.

    • @panq8904
      @panq8904 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Michael Wilson Being a casual player is fine but that wasn't what my comment was about, you were saying about how you beat IV'd and EV'd teams with normal Pokémon to re-enforce your opinion that they don't matter, but really if you were going up against a well put together EV'd and IV'd team belonging to a player of equal skill and experience you'd get destroyed by them, that's just how it works. BTW this video is only accurate up to Gen V if you didn't know already, in X and Y EV and IV mechanics have changed.

      You're really supposed to breed and specifically train for good Pokémon. It's a lot easier with Gen 6 mechanics with the destiny knot passing down 5 parent IVs (The 6th one usually doesn't matter since most Pokémon are either fully physically or specially invested in EVS and attacks anyway). With a 6IV ditto you can find from certain websites, breeding a 5 IV Pokémon with the right nature takes 30 minutes.

    Thank you so much for this video. I am doing a let's play of Pokémon Emerald and just gotten the macho brace and it got me so confused. I didn't know about EVs and IVs when I played this game years back. It is a good knowledge to know about while playing Pokémon.

    Started breeding and EV training for the first time when I got Alpha Sapphire a week back. It seems like it's much easier with the horde encounters and the battle miason. (I didn't play X/Y but I heard they implemented it there too, so there's that.)

  • @cybo_vampire9145

    I originally thought nothing of IVs and EVs. This is because learning how to IV breed was so complex since all videos on the subject kept talking about methods in specific games, as well as how drawn out and overcomplicated most videos made them. That all changed thanks to a fan game called Pokemon Clover. This game simplified IV breeding while still keeping its core aspects unchanged, as well as having what was essentially 6 IV dittos being really easy to obtain. This gave me confidence in my IV breeding skills that I started IV breeding in other fan games like Pokemon Insurgence. Unlike Clover IV breeding in that game was unchanged, but I was able to learn more and eventually gained perfect IV pokemon with the help of an IV stone buffed Delta Ditto. Now I understand IV breeding perfectly. I know how the items work, how to control which abilities get passed on, and even how to pass down specific IVs. Now I'm IV breeding in Pokemon Uranium. It's time consuming, but now that I understand it, it's also a lot more fun.

    I never really thought about it, but I guess iv's and ev's aren't explained in the older games. I kinda like it though. Its amazing when you surprise an opponent by either surviving a hit or getting a knock-out when they aren't expecting those kind of stats. Especially when you have a perfect iv and ev trained Pokemon that's normally not very strong. I love using shiny sandslash and getting surprise knockouts with a banded earthquake just when they think they are safe.

    I mean, i like the fact that there are more to it. But this is just insane, one's gotta have to much time in their hands to care about the finest details of their Pokémon... I just like to play for the story and make a good team based on surface concepts.
