Why is it that geography class never seemed to cover where any of the countries were actually located? I always wished they had because I wanted to learn about that instead of rocks and stuff. Now of course, being the ever-curious young scholar I was and still am, I took it upon myself as a young buck to learn about where all the countries in the world are. But after a while, the passion faded, and I began focusing my geographical study time on other endeavours such as polo and consensual lady-touching. Turns out I was great at both! Anyway, the passion for geographical study returned 2 weeks ago so here's a video that isn't about rocks and stuff.

@@vinukabest3 Not only that. I've spoken to many people from the States online. It's rediculous what comes out of their mouths sometimes. I do understand why however. Why know where every other country in the world is located on the map if you're never going to need it? Depending on occupation this can change if I ask American people the same question for obvious reasons so it is just a stereotype. Also has allot to do with history I guess, but I'd have to sit here and write for a bit too long. It's not like all Europeans know where every country in the world is located on the map out of the top of their heads either. I know the countries in Europe very well obviously but Africa is a different Story. It's still fresh in my head now as last year was when we learned in history class and in geography class about wars, colonies and locations of the country, mountains and cities of African countries but ask me about them in a few years and I'd probably have to think for a while.
The stereotype is mostly used in jokes however, which is nice. All countries have their stereotypes that get joked about. I'm from Belgium myself so you can probably think of a few there.

Russia is its own thing. Together, the Slavic regions, Europe, and Asia, form Eurasia. To clarify: no part of Russia is in Asia. @@jaguar_8344 yeah no.. it isn't.. Russia is transcontinental, just like Turkey and Egypt in geographical terms. In political terms, Asia is a fuck ton of vastly different cultures. To say Russian people in Siberia are non Asian just because they're different is like saying the Arabs aren't Asian just because they're different. Asia is different in many ways so you can't really say they're not Asian because you're not specifying which kind of Asian.
And what do you mean by "the slavic regions?", the slavic regions are in Europe, Siberia is certainly not majority slavic so you can't disprove there. And "mongolia is up for debate?" what..? Up for debate for what..? Being European or Asian? If that's the case then never have I ever heard the most stupid debate ever. Mongolia is and always has been Asian lol, they're ethnically east Asian, descendants from Korea and Manchuria, like all the other Siberians. Well, I'm not sure about what the more recent curriculum in Newfoundland and Labrador (Matt's province) is like these days but back when I was in high school, my own province had two mandatory geography courses in high school: one world geography and one Canadian/provincial geography. Neither course put strong emphasis on political geography. It was covered, of course, but a lot of time was spent on physical geography (plate tectonics, biomes, climate zones, etc) along with demographics and other geographic subtopics.
Canadian political geography is fairly straightforward and learned in primary school so that class was really heavy into physical geography. World geography involved more political geography but it was basically a survey course and the political geography emphasized the dominant or populous countries (e.g. Argentina and Brazil got more attention than Uruguay and Paraguay) and groups of smaller or less influential neighbouring countries were often covered as a group. Even so, we did lots of physical geography and basic geology.
I don't remember being specifically taught US states but most Canadians have a good grasp of them from sheer cultural osmosis. Our world maps often have the subnational divisions of the US and Canada (and sometimes the UK and Australia; the USSR too back when I was young).

Hi, one correction (not sure if it's been mentioned yet), Australia is a continent as well as country, however, the continent of Australia is not the same as Oceania. Oceania is a geographical region that spans multiple geographic continents and tectonic plates. On the other hand, the continent of Australia includes only the countries Australia and New Guinea.

Outside of the Latin Americans (and some European countries), North and South America are FULL Continents, not subcontinents (that is why they are known as the plural: "The Amerias" there) (I know in Spanish speaking countries it's just America)
The whole concept of continent is quite inconsistant and doesn't really make much sense in the first place (Africa, Asia and Europe are one land mass)
