I was an 0621 with the 81s plt 2/6 When I was with artillery in 2/10 I sometimes went with the forward observers but for the most part stayed with the btry doing fire missions or working the gun line. Best job ever
I know this is marines, but i just enlisted for 13F (fire support specialist) for the army and this looks fun as hell. I ship Aug 26th. cant wait. Thank you for your service. 🤙
@@hamachersjourney3499 no i dont:( i sold my PC since im leaving soon. ill most likely be getting a laptop after basic. I've been wanting to play so bad, i watch so many videos of that game lol
I was at a TOC more than a few times, and DIV a couple times and cannot imagine what you're talking about. And I was a pretty experienced high-level Jedi in the Spec-4 Mafia by then. Not sure what rank you were, but that can matter.
I noticed yall in the military use so much paper for stuff lol. Documentation from maps down to even call for mortars, it seems yall gotta write it down. Now I know yall dont wanna rely on an Ipad too much when shit gets real, but seriously it would be alot more simple lol. Especially when the transition to guided mortars comes along.
Im a rookie who only ever did 1 cff but they're doing that "splash" call wrong. Splash is initiated by the observer when he sees the impact. Why is the guns guy saying it and the observer responding before impact? Makes no sense
The Splash call is from the FDC to indicate 5 seconds to the round(s) landing - gives the FO time to make sure they're observing for adjust-fire missions - you can hear one of the observers counting down after the Splash call
For artillery, Splash almost always is a call by the FDC indicating five seconds before impact. This is especially useful if the target is able to suppress the FO and therefore, the FO should remain in cover and only expose to look for the adjustments. Five seconds are usually enough to pop out of cover and quickly down again. It's also just useful since in the moment you might miss the impact, even if not being shot at.
@impulsiveDecider right all of that is true except splash isn't what they say. It doesn't make as much sense imo. What the guys I went with did was FDC radios "shot" indicating all what you were saying and the FO responds splash. That way if the FO didn't see splash at all that's a quick indicator somebody fucked up the grid
@@mattm2894 Also that's just superfluous. If you request TOF, you will know if something got fucked up. Splash is a standardized call, you can look this up in the publicly available documentation so you don't even need a CA for you to verify this. Google "MTTP-JFIRE" and go to the explanation, it will say: "SPLASH - 1) (A/S) Weapons impact. 2) (S/S) Informative call to observer or spotter five seconds prior to estimated time of impact. 3) (air- to-air [A/A]) Target destroyed." It details three uses of the word, 1) either when an aircraft employs a surface munition and weapons impact is observed, 2) Call to observer as previously described or 3) when an aircraft destroys an aerial target.
That’s the kind of NCO that I want to have training me.
That cut to the mortar team after FFE gave me a chubby.
as it should!
Good job fellas. Imagine doing this on the fly in a combat zone back in the 40s. Before the paperwork and safety insuring procedures. Crazy.
0:54 hearing the fdc chief in the background brings back so many memories love it
I love the enthusiasm, it’s really nice to see

Just goes to show, grunts CAN do math, but they usually only do it when it helps them kill the bad guys better

That...was educational. Thanks for putting it up.
I wish I could get as excited about something as this instructor is teaching these kids how to kill rabbits with a pair of binos.
when it comes to the standard, as soon as you drop 50, it is doctrine to FFE.
also you dont need those cheat sheets
they're still good to have, i still use them@@in0the0skies
When using 80mm mortars it helps to be as accurate as possible. 120mm mortars and artillery have a much bigger room for error
Fuck yes!! 0861! The BEST MOS in The Marines!
Nope lol
Best MOS is Raider/Recon if you wanna do cool shit. Admin if you want to work a 9-5, get swoll, and not lose gains from going to the field for weeks
@@misfits12o facts dude. The field fucks up my gains so bad. Its mad annoying.

I like this because it isn't some lame ass eib lane it's actual Mortar shit
When you split the 100m bracket and are at 50m, you should be going to FFE.
Nice job fellas

Does anyone know what card/form number he is marking on?
If anyone can post a link to the cheat sheet, I’d be very grateful👍
