- Watch as I figure out how to do a valve adjustment on a 2009 RDX. My cousin was not clear what was happening when the car wasn’t starting after it had already been running and up to temp, I thought she meant it was cranking like it had low compression or was flooded (my element did that when the valves were out of adjustment). Turns out the starter must have a dead spot and randomly won’t crank, and I did all this work for basically nothing. The exhaust valves were about a 1/2 turn too tight so It’s good I adjusted them, but that didn’t fix the starting problem.
Great video. One thing i would add is that you need to apply Honda Bond to 4 places, not 2. The locations are where you showed, but also similar junctions at the back (where the timing cover meets the head at the left and where the gasket changes from being flat to shaped at the right).
This is a useful video, I wish I had seen it before I did the valve adjustment on my RDX. The wire harness connectors and cable ties all have to be released on the timing chain side and rear of engine and there is little room to get tools and hands where needed. You have to access the connectors from above and below to reach them all. I ended up using long picks to open up the cable ties, the Honda cable ties have a little tab you can pry up with a pick to open the cable ties. If you think you can just cut the cable ties, good luck getting a tool where you can actually cut them. Getting everything disconnected to get the wiring harness out of the way is valuable information in this video. I also saw valve clearances on the exhaust side being tight and out of spec and the intake side okay. Thanks for the video, anyone planning to do this job will benefit from watching.
I just purchased a 2007 acura rdx sh awd with 110k. When i hit 120 ill be rewatching this video for a diy tutorial thank u
This could be the reason for low compression on cylinder 1 and 4?
The amount if rust on this car is insane. Did u drive it in the ocean.... ?
Taking that valve cover was a real pita for me.
Yep. I was trying to get that off for several hours before I decided to unplug everything
@@AlexKolipinski I eventually squeezed it through the power steering hose. I think it's called. Definately don't wanna do it again cuz I bent that
Im due for mine lol
Hey man im plan to buy an 08 rdx and u figure it out i think and i hear turbo or blow off valve
Man that battery posts looks to be a culprit. Also the starter may be on its way out as well. Mines acted the same and ended up dying around 180k. Check the grounds as well… this could be the low mpg
This video is super helpful. Thanks Alex!
I need Help 😢
With what?
Hope I don’t have to do this!!!😮
Acura made a mistake putting the inter cooler on top of the valve cover. Bad design.
yup that's why they never did it again..i have a08 and I'm planning to switch it to fmic this summer.. it's very annoying having to disconnect the intercooler to do minor things
Great explanation. Thanks!
Buddy did all that work and didn't even replace the spark plug tube seals ....
Right? Anytime if you do all that work to remove valve covers and so forth, might as well change the valve cover gasket , replace the spark plugs, and if the coils are old and a little brittle especially seeing all that rust on the bolts, why not change the coils too. Maybe it wasn’t in the budget for the cousin . I’m sure the codes would’ve said it if you had issues with spark plugs and coils, but doing all that work removing everything, why not.
Hmm😂
Haha yeah it was a waste of time
Battery connector sometimes gets loose and needs to be tightened
