Elvis didn't like his 68 tv show being call Come back special. The media gave it that title. This was one of the happiest times of his life. Everything was going great in his life. December 1968 was a happy time for Elvis.
This was written and performed by one of my favorite old Blues singers, Jimmy Reed, in 1959. Elvis loved singing the Blues, and did a great rendition of this. The guitarist on the left is Scotty Moore. Scotty was his original guitarist, and help originate Elvis early Rockabilly vibes. Keith Richards lead guitarist of the Rolling Stones used to say, when he was growing up in England everybody wanted to be Elvis, but he wanted to be Scotty Moore!
This reminds me of the younger Presley when he first got famous. He always played guitar on stage. When he was older, others usually played for him as he sang.
I understand exactly what you mean. I am a huge Elvis fan for over 40 years now, and the '68 Special is literally something special. But as you said: especially the sitdown sequence has long parts with jamming without singing and making jokes. The stand up version includes many of his early songs. The ballads and the up tempo songs, for example: jailhouse rock/ trouble/hound dog and a second version of 'If i can dream' .When you see this, you have the feeling the tiger has finally broke out of his cage! And in his black leather outfit he is sexy as can be. 😊
The guy playing guitar to Elvis' left is the late Scotty Moore. Scotty played guitar for Elvis when he started out back in '54. The idea of this "Sit down" portion of the special was give fans who may not have bern around at the time an idea of what it was like for Elvis when he started out. The guy beating on the guitar case was Elvis' riginal drummer D.J. Fontanna. And the guy to Elvis' right on guitar was his best friend whom he met in the army...a guy by the name of Charlie Hodge. Charlie is also the guy you see in the 70's concert footage who gave Elvis his scarves and handed him his water on stage. The bass player in this is friend of Elvis' named Alan Fortis. Elvis' riginal 1950's bassist, Bill Black passed away of a brain tumor in 1966...so of course, he couldn't be at this special.
I agree with you. And there are a few other versions of this where he DOES sing more... the thing is, they've released all the out-takes, so you never know which one you're gonna get ahead of time. I appreciate you!
I enjoyed it Ty! I didn't see this exact one but one like it. He's alway enjoyable to watch just the same. He's just looking so good and really easy on the eyes. They're having full and I like to see that too. Thanks for reacting to it. 👍💓
I wish Elvis would have done more of this. But very glad he left us this!!!!!! Thanks for your reaction. Very heartfelt. BTW. There is a stand up version of this where he prowls the stage.
The intimate stuff that shows up as the '68 comeback special was actually a separate re4cording called One Night With You. It was about 1 hour long. Most of the audience were family members of the crew, director, producers, etc. Parts of it were used in the actual comeback special. Great stuff either way. I highly recommend that you watch the One Night With You recording all the way through. It's great to get it all in context.
*MRM* There are two versions of this song from the 68 special, this one was not used..... the other is much better.... the dude playing guitar on the left is the famous SCOTTY MOORE
That guitarist was the great Scotty Moore, his original lead guitarist. The guy using a guitar box as a drum was his original drummer, DJ Fontana. Keith Richards, of The Rolling Stones, said "Most guys wanted to be Elvis. I wanted to be Scotty Moore"
I love to see him play. As another person said this was his comfort zone. I can listen to him play all day. I appreciate all of your work to bring us these videos TCB 👑⚡️
HE two DIFFERENT AUDIENCES same NIGHT So he sang longer or shorter version of his songs. When he told the 1st audience THAT he another audience coming in they went ohhhbh!!!! ELVIS REPLIED HEY I JUST WORK HERE AND SMILED. THE SECOND AUDIENCE EAS LITTLE MORE ENTHUSIASTIC THAN THE FIRST. THERE IS AN EXPLANATION FOR THAT TO LONG TO GO INTO MISSISSIPPI ELVIS JUNKIE LB I
There were multiple "sit down" sessions that they pulled the best from for the '68 special. Most of it wasn't used and wasn't heard for a very long time. I have the complete recordings from it and it racks up 85 songs and 4 hours and 16 minutes long. The guy to Elvis left is the late great and legendary Scotty Moore who was Elvis's first guitarist and played some pretty legendary licks on the early Sun Sessions. By this time Scotty was doing his own thing I believe and Elvis had James Burton playing on most of his stuff (another legend) so it had been many a year since he and Scotty had played together.
Oh Lawd!! That black leather and greased hair got me thinking sinful thoughts!!! I confess, I confess. But why did the good Lord make such a gorgeous man to tempt us with?
Your right the man looks like Dustin Hoffman, from the movie rain man. I was expecting more singing also. Elvis had such a wonderful smile, very warm and welcoming
Good song choice and I love the guitar. I just started learning. It's been about 5 weeks now. All I know is C, Em, and Am and a couple others. I barely make a recognizable sound.
Ty, have you done a reaction video to Elvis Presley - One night with you? I love the ‘68 Comeback Special version! Would love to hear your thoughts on that!
I understand your reaction MRM but Elvis never read an entertainers musical scripts. Apart from Canada he never travelled abroad to perform, made only 16 television appearances in 23 years, gave a handful of press interviews and no concerts for 11 years but somehow he lasted into folklore.
This is not religious, I'm not "religious" according to how the church portrays it. No he didn't like Elvis........He LOVED Elvis just like he loves YOU and ME. " God so LOVED the WORLD" Whatever is is you're getting at or trying to do here. Remember.........He died for it all.
@@Modern-Renaissance-Man I think Jesus should heal those who are sick or feed those who are starving instead of loving us if thats the case. Somehow I feel you ignore 60 percent of the population in the world. They do not think or believe like you do. Are they wrong, but you are right? Elvis is cool!
OK , I checked out your videos and comments.......I like performers with great talent, their skin color is useless as a rats ass to me. I see that as your problem and I can not subscribe,.....however, I wish you well.
not An Elvis Fan, I was 15 when he died I had 3 older sisters .... Glen Campbell made more of an impression in our lives and had more talent in his pinky fingernail than Elvis ever thought of having.
@@aprilsutterfield3635 nope...Glen was one of the greatest guitar players and had a smoother voice and an awesome song writer ....Elvis was just a womanizer and a momma's boy
Been eating the happy brownies again never be another elvis and no will never have the talent elvis had please remind me where glen campbell is now hahaah where on the other elvis had more then 2 number one albums in more then one country and if I can dream with royal philamic orgarasta got multi platinum within few weeks and was also one of the biggest selling albums of year in 2015 merely being beaten by adele hello album and the man had been dead at the time for 38 years. He has been dead 42 years now but yet thousands of people old and young turned up to Memphis every August to remember him I for one am 22. Also please remind me the next biggest ever selling artist in history and still selling today an estimated million wordwide every year thats right elvis aron presley and please remind who alhoa from hawaii concert special had more viewers then when man went to moon did so not broadcast tv programs like man landing on the moon could defeat the mighty elvis aron presley. Also elvis earns more respect because he served in the us army and demanded he would not be giving any special treatment and trained as tank man and pulled guard and did all the other duties a normal recruit would do what did glen campbell do for this country. Just a jealous women of elvis presley that needs to stop eating them magic brownies. Glen Campbell not even fit enough or talented enough to kiss elvis presley feet only one king of music and thats elvis aron presley
Yep, ELVIS was undeniably attractive to look at...any facial expression is a gift!

That was just a jam but there is another one with more lyrics.

Actually, on the complete recordings from the '68 comeback special, the song appears no less than 8x. They were really having fun with it! lol

Just love Elvis...❤ and yes there's other cuts that Elvis does sing A LOT more than this.
*Rain Man was the movie with Dustin Hoffman.
Oh Lawd!! That black leather and greased hair got me thinking sinful thoughts!!! I confess, I confess. But why did the good Lord make such a gorgeous man to tempt us with?
I have seen the leather suit at Graceland. He was very skinny and not exactly as tall as I always thought.
He was 6 foot tall barefooted and 6-2 in boots. That ain't short. He weighed 165 pounds when he did this show.
That was the short version of the show.
Your right the man looks like Dustin Hoffman, from the movie rain man. I was expecting more singing also. Elvis had such a wonderful smile, very warm and welcoming
This is the last time Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana ever played with Elvis. 😪
Good song choice and I love the guitar. I just started learning. It's been about 5 weeks now. All I know is C, Em, and Am and a couple others. I barely make a recognizable sound.
