- We've talked about tiramisù and gelato, so let's talk about another very popular Italian dessert, cannoli! These are incredible pastries that originated in Sicily. What is their history? What are their ingredients? How are they made? Let's find out!

Surely the problem of asking for Cannoli rather than Cannolo is hypothetical. Who in their right mind would ask for just one?
your liver 🙏
@@veero25 Fair comment.
It's an artifact of ordering from a pastry shop outside of Italy, where they will both charge more and give one at a time.
maybe i should ask for 3, or 4 just to be safe!
I love how this channel is science, math, philosophy and the likes, and then there’s just Dave’s special interest in Italian culture
I think he is Italian
But he is italian...
"Farina" literally means flour in Italian😅
"Leave the gun, take the cannoli" - Peter Clemenza
The godfather is easily one of my favorite movies oat!!!
I joined as a tip, do you realize how just 20 years ago such resources just weren't available. I appreciate being able to learn academic stuff without having to pay tuition. Learning is fun
As an Italian, I approve of this video! :)
Thanks, Dave....Buon fine settimana!
Maybe try ONE cannolo, and take your time. especially if it's a big one.
Not because cannoli are bad - they're awesome - but because all that ricotta isn't always easy to digest. It's not like eating it in a salad.
by the way his italian accent kicks ass
In reality, ricotta is one of the most digestible milk products. Like any milk product, the problem starts when different fats are combined, and the cannoli has a fried envelope. But it's a small portion, so cannoli as a pastry isn't that difficult to digest. Except it's so good that you always eat way more of them than you should...
@@MicheleGardini exactly...it's the combination. I can eat as much ricotta as I want in a salad...but if I have to digest it with all those yummy ingradients, it gets heavy real fast. At least for me, but I don't think it's not uncommon.
Finally something James Tour can get behind
It just has to be a holy cannoli hehe
As long as you draw the recipe on a blackboard.
@@zoliking He won't believe you unless you also draw the molecular structure of every compound in the cannoli
2:01 Mr. Flour!
Your pronunciation is awesome! Ottimo lavoro
I should be working right now.
Am i? No.
This is more important
my mouth was watering looking at the images of those cannoli. In Australia we don't get anything as near as traditional or as nice looking as those you showed.
I watch PBS cooking shows and they explain there's quite alot of chemistry going on with the ingredients
Not the usual subject matter from this channel. Almost thought I was watching Adam Ragusea.
Babe, wake up. A cannoli lore video just dropped.
Dave, thanks for the slow pronunciation of the Italian words. It makes is much more easily to retain.
Education Dave vs Debunk Dave are so wildly different its hard for me to believe they're the same person!
Hello professor, this is Sergio from Palermo, Sicily. Cannoli aren't named so because they "look" like reeds, but they're named this way because they used to wrap them around reeds before frying them since we didn't had aluminum molds back then.
take the value of cannolo and add with itself, take the resulting cannolli and conjugate it with the leftmost frequency to the croissant of one and you will have your answer
ThankYou4Sharing ProDave!!! ❤ 🕊 MuchLove
I just now realized that "farina" is "flour" in Italian.
I love it when he says “cannoli”.
I was always taught that biscotti was the material and not the specific item. So, it was used somewhat similar to moose: identical as both a singular and plural. Interesting to learn how that was derived, even if it was only half correct.
Love cannoli and tiramisu.
Hiya! Unrelated, but given your interest in debating regarding creationism and whatnot, I highly recommend reading the book "The Great Partnership" by Jonathan Sacks. It's written from a very logical, pragmatic perspective from someone who studied moral philosophy at Oxford. He posits that religion and science are both necessary and likens them to the left and right sides of the brain. They serve two separate purposes but work together to form a whole picture. Either way, I recommend it because it's a rational view on religion
On a cannoli video. 10+ man
Cannoli reminds me of cannulas which remind me of tubes which reminds me that they're probably from the same root which reminds me of roots which reminds me of the band which reminds me of Jimmy Fallon which reminds me of johnny Carson which reminds me of Jonathan Sacks. Alternatively it's something I wanted to recommend for Dave because it seems like a topic he's interested in and figured comment sections are all the same so why not this one
@@tatemick1 it's interesting because probably from that cannula word, it became a kind of jolly-word to describe some some straws, a little tube, the gun/cannon barrel, the flue of a chimney, some that I don't remeber now, and even a joint.
Maybe he's got something cooking for his philosophy series🤞
@@veero25Oo interesting take. Smells like it could be a tasty series
A benevolent God would not make Cannoli so delicious, yet so unhealthy for the human body. 😂
Well shit, now I need some cannoli.
I only knew this channel from the debates. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many cool videos like this one. Very fun and informative!
I've just come back from probably the best week ever in Italy. The food and wine was out of this world. All topped off with the last 2 days in Rome.
Surprised and delighted this series is still going on!
Dave covered so much science in his tutoriels that he got bored and decided to upload videos about italian food 🔥
It’s very surreal to listen to the voice that led me through the pain that was organic chemistry discuss the joy that is cannoli
Dave, I love ur channel. Everything u cover u hit outta the ball park. U are straight to the point, no nonsense but can still also be funny at times. Really appreciate what u do on here.
Thank you🙏🏻
Man, I love these Italian cuisine vids with the correct Italian pronunciations.
Until I found this vid, I had no idea that Cannoli and Biscotti were plural!
I really don't think the regular American pronunciation of cannoli is incorrect. It's all the right sounds without the accent.
I like how he's speaking with a totally normal American accent, then he just pops a perfect 🇮🇹cannoli🇮🇹
an interesting new topic for your channel, bravo!
I wasn't expecting to have you cover one of my favourite desserts.
Very interesting , thank you
I worked in a French/Italian bakery as a teen. I remember the times the shells were fried. We used metal tubes.
You're right, they have to be fried, so you need metal tubes to keep them in shape at those temperatures.
Cool!
Great information, cool series. How about sfogliatelle next? You can't leave us Neapolitans out to dry. Thanks
A yummy lecture!!
Love em, fun topic, cheers!
Yum. Love learning things from your channel
One of my favorite desserts 😁
The Platonic Solids are the conjugations in Cannolis.
Excellent video. Also, someone needs to make sure the boys at Distractible see this.
Weird suggestions but it would be cool to see you react to the animation vs science(math, phys, geometry atm) videos from alen becker and explaining whats going on in some of those videos.
I love how we go from science lessons and debunking pseudoscience to food
Beautiful
I'd love to know the history of Hawaiian pizza, with extra pineapple, and I'd like that to go, please 🍕
dude in Hamilton, Ontario came up with it in the 70s.
@@quexalcoatl Correct. Canada of all places! 1962, to be exact... But the Italians in Italy still laugh about it... :)
I had a blueberry one last month!
my sister's boyfriend is half Italian and half african
i'm going to ask him about this next time i see him
In india in state kerala where im from we call cannoli Aaraam number. ( although we break the cannoli and there isnt a filling)
Leave the gun,
Take the cannoli….best godfather quote
looks so yummy
People are still going to try and debunk this.
Cant wait for James Tour to make a 20 part response to this saying show me molecules assemble into Canoli clueless.
RE: Cicero (@ 1:59). Interesting that "fartus" is Latin for "sandwich"--as I check Google translate. Hmmmmm.
Nice work Dave. Loved this video.
Dave, Daily Dose of Wisdom may be your next one.
Pistachios are just nuts.
Ottima pronuncia! Come italiano approvo questo messaggio. Canna also means joint :)
young earth creationists: Professor Dave only talks about us 😡😢
Professor Dave:
I'm hungry now!
Ok
Dave I love you
Come on, Dave. You should get Lt. Aldo Raine to teach you to speak Italian.
Has subboor contacted you?
I might have to show this to my Nonno
Professor Dave videos if flat earthers, religious zealots and science deniers didn't exist
Alright I’m almost certain you’re choosing topics out of a raffle bowl.
❤❤❤❤❤
Biscotto comes from the Latin biscoctus, or twice cooked. Only such twice baked cookies like biscotto are accurately named, single baked cookies are not, strictly speaking, biscotti.
Um, no. Biscotti means cookies. Literally any cookies.
😋
Let's see if a delicious Cannolo can get more views that Mr Tour lol
Dave doesn’t have a Lambo.
Fun video and huge fan of your content in general, but gotta say I'm a little disappointed when I see a crappy AI generated pic mixed in at 3:00 between all the other great historic art
Leave the gun. Take the canolli.
I want all the cannoli.
You gotta love diversity

oh that is blasphemy
Cannoli 🤌
Oh nooo, why cinnamon?? I would really like to taste cannoli, but I can't stand cinnamon.
Heh heh, he said "fartus"
I thought that Cannolis were Spanish/Latin American lol 😂
Man, this channel has all my interests in 1 spot. I do want to note though that american vegetable oils and lard (a.k.a fried food) is terrible for you in a very unique way, and is advised by doctors that you simply never eat it at all because of the irreversible long term damage it can do. Please do yourself a favor and enjoy your cannoli with some avocado oil or olive oil or coconut oil, or just any non-vegetable oils or non-seed oil when you make these.
You'd really also do yourself favors if you didn't use enriched flour (which is a carcinogen still used all over the US) for the batter, but that's not as detrimental. Happy cooking!
good Catholic food
Language is plastic, if people not speaking Italian start treating "cannoli" as singular, than in that particular language that will become the correct use. If the baker is Italian it would be culturally sensitive to ask for a cannolo or if the language spoken is Italian it would be correct grammar. Otherwise who cares. Since the number ordered is quantified explicitly, the transaction will happen the way the customer wants, therefore their attempt to express their idea through spoken language is successful.
If the earth is a ball why dont people fall off in Australia??!?!!4!
Because they’re light headed
I can’t tell whether you are joking or not
Your channel is so random
It*lian "culture" 😂😂😂😂😂
Um, what?
It's a joke similar to how people make fun of french people by saying [ Fr*nch "people" 🤢🤢 ]
Love your videos, Dave.
OOofff I think I just got a pass because I ordered "One of the connoli"
