THANK YOU! Third time was a charm! The first two videos I found on YT didn't address this which was my exact problem. It sure was a pain but I managed to get it fixed. Again, many thanks!
I have a recordable tape the has snapped off the hub at the end when i fast fowarded the tape i heard a loud noise and i looked and no tape was there but it snapped off the hub. It is colored orange.
2:45 - You'll find in *much* easier if you remove the metal tab before pressing the catch onto the hub and then re-inserting the tab! I found this out the hard way! :)
Yep it's annoying but it only takes 5 mins to correct it :-D Nice set of driver bits and handle, manufacturers have a bad habit of using silly screws. Well worth taking care of them, makes a job simpler/faster :-D
Years ago i had 2 videorecorders damaged internally because of a single VHS tape which the tape inside of the VHS case was sticked (probably due to humidity conditions) in the left guide. I only discovered that after the 2 failed (and rejected on both videorecorders) attemps of playing the tape, so i opened the case and released the tape from the left guide.
There is a small hole in the underside of the spool where the tape retainer is. You insert a thin metal tool into it and push the retainer out of the top of the spool.
I'm sorry to ask this here, but I don't see a way to contact you. Have you run into an issue with aVHS player connected to a modern TV randomly causing the screen to go blank, but there is audio? I have tried connected to my receiver which connected to the TV via HDMI as well as connecting to the TV directly via composite.
@@12voltvids Do I have to look for a video setting? I'm asking because I looked for everything to set it to a lower resolution. I'm sure I need a box to allow lower resolutions

This will come in handy in the future, i can feel it 🙄
really good video, fixed two VHS this way. thanks
Dave if the back spool is broken where it's supposed to REW, FFWD can the tape be used or repaired.
I wanted to thank you for the succinct and practical video. I fixed a broken tape today because of you. Many thanks!
First
Same! Almost every tape that's shown up broken here has broken at or near the leader.

Great guide. Will give it a go and hopefully save an important family video
Ive been doing this for years.
I started doing tapes cassettes when i was about 12
My VHS tape broken from hub and there is not any hole there to bring the lock out. What to do ?
...Umatic is so much easier... could VHS be the same, aren't they?
Umatic not really easier. Perhaps because the tape if wider and thicker so less likely to snap.

What if the tape is damaged, crinkled at the beginning do i have to cellotape the leader with the cut section of the tape.
@@speedyboishan87 Splicing tape is the ideal option, as cellotape is too thick and can snag in the mechanism.

Some modern TVs if the sync signal is not at the correct signal they will blank the picture.

@@chimera5588 how are you connecting it?
AV cable, RF cable or through an av to HDMI converter box?
@@12voltvids I have tried directly to the TV through Composite, and through a receiver which is composite, then the receiver is HDMI
