Open for backed Grammy winners in the 1966-1976 time period hung out with Jimmie Hendrix for couple hits of a joint met fenominal blue grass players I have never heard a finer musician than Mr Smith best of health to you and yours
what amazes me is people are so impressed by shredders when people like Richard Smith, Doyle Dykes and Tommy Emmanuel are out here holding it down and opening peoples minds with pure musicality and beautiful techniques.
Just saw Richard and his wife performing at Alva's in Los Angeles on Sunday. They are AMAZING. There are so few of these awesome musicians left - go see them while you can.
Richard.....hats off to you brother!! I have spent my whole life listening to Mr. Reed, and am now working toward learning some skills on the guitar...amazing to me that anyone can duplicate his skill like you and Mr. Bresh!!
He's been around for a long time... if you want to see more of this style (fingerstyle) check acousticmusicresource.com . Check out their sampler series " Acoustic Guitar Highlights" and "Groove Master Duos" CD's they are just great!!
Do I hear a Tommy Emmanuel lick (Stevie's Blues) around 2:45? This is wonderful. Gorgeously played medley. The Breshman produces the greatest quality youtube videos, well shot, well edited and beautiful sound reproduction.
The only way a person could ever play guitar like Richard Smith is to: Live with their parents until their mid 20's, Not have a day job, Listen to Chet and Jerry every breathing moment, and play and practice from sun up to sundown. Like Lenny Breau...Lenny did nothing but play guitar, thats why his wife left him.
He is the BEST not a flaw Flawless He must play when Sleeping I would love to see Richard and Billy strings meet on a video and do a bit of jamming together
These arguments about who's the "better" guitarist all over TH-cam are, of course, misplaced energy. Jerry and Richard Smith fill fundamentally different ecological niches: Jerry was a creative genius and a multifaceted master entertainer. Richard is a master practitioner of Jerry's music (and others') and a great teacher. I would say both of them are virtuosos. It's often true that a student of certain inspirational artist will surpass that artist in technical prowess, but that does not necessarily make him "better." One example is Stevie Ray and Albert King. Stevie was a thrall of King and went on to surpass him in terms of speed and precision but I doubt he would have ever claimed to be "better" than his hero. That's not a perfect example because Stevie brought tons of creativity himself -- but you get the point. Plato and Aristotle, etc. Jerry never even claimed to be a great guitar player but rather a "guitar thinker." I personally think he was both. Richard is inspirational in his own way and a gift to music.
+blinberland A Little Bit Of Blues, Drive In, Funky Junk, Jerry's breakdown.... All Jerry Reed compositions. The first three recorded by Chet Atkins. Jerry and Chet together recorded Jerry's breakdown.
Nothing against JR, great writer / performer, but always a second banana.... Most of his songs only made money when Chet or someone else recorded them. Neither CA nor JR could, on their best day, hold a candle to this guy. Technically, Richard Smith is the best finger style guitarist IMO.. so far.
Actually, I'd probably be turning metal on a lathe as an engineer :) but you are right. Without Chet, Jerry, Django, Joe Pass, Albert Lee... I probably wouldn't be a musician. Those guys also had their influences. Jerry without Ray Charles influence, Chet without Merle's influence. But those guys were inspired. Hats off to the greats. There are so many great players around today and everyone learns from each other. Check out Antoine Boyer. Versatile with technique, gypsy jazz, classical, and fingerstyle jazz great harmonic knowledge. One to watch. Thanks for watching!
Richard smith is the only human being can play Jerry flawlessly, perfectly, almost inhuman. Love you Richard.
amen

he's been great since he was a kid. You can find videos of Chet Atkins introducing him at age 9!
I do not care how much any guy practised no one could be so versatile who is this guy an agent within musicians
So sad you are gone Bresh . Today was the day of your funeral . RIP buddy

I believe the song "A Little Bit of Blues" was written by Reed and then played by Chet Atkins.

Can anyone tell me what song is the riff he is playing from ? at 1:47 ?
That is a pure Tommy Emmanuel riff!! this is so Tommy its painful to hear this guy play it.hes good but no Tommy!
It's a Jerry Reed tune called "Drive In" first recorded by Chet on the album Solo Flights in 1968.
next drive in
What is the 3rd song in the medley?
Funky Junk. A Reed composition recorded by Chet on the album "Chet Atkins picks on Jerry Reed"
Swarm son !!
What's he playing after Drive in?
Funky Junk. Jerry Reed tune found on "Chet Atkins Picks On Jerry Reed"
@@gidbiddy7091 thank you!
What are the names of the songs?
I only know jerrys breakdown
+blinberland A Little Bit Of Blues, Drive In, Funky Junk, Jerry's breakdown.... All Jerry Reed compositions. The first three recorded by Chet Atkins. Jerry and Chet together recorded Jerry's breakdown.
I think Down Home recorded by Chet
Great picking... but I miss that sweet tone of nylon!
Better than Reed ever played.
You're high, while RS is a world class pro,he'd be spinnin pizzas for a living if it wasn't for guys like JR..

earth jerry was innovative no doubt-- but nowhere as clean and accurate as this dude...
+earth Being able to play the fucking drums on a guitar is hardly 's and b'......lol.....let's see you do that......z

1000 times better than Tommy Emmanuel. but the last song Jerry's breakdown was way too fast slow down.
