- Today’s Railway touring company excursion was the final ‘The Stratford Flyer’ of the 2024 season. .. this time taking customers from
Norwhich to Stratford- Upon- Avon.
I thought I had to go for it as it was one of Riley’s Black 5’s to work it (44871).
The weather was bleak and wet pretty much throughout the day to be honest but that didn’t put me down… starting off with heading into the birmingham suburbs.. with spring road, here the 5 puts the power down as she comes off the Tyseley junction to head down the north Warwick’s line.
My second shot was to be shrewley common… a shot I’ve been after for a Stratford flyer job for a while. Barely scraping it as a chiltern unit almost bowled me..
It was then a short hop to dorridge to see the loco being seen to before being dragged back by the diesel to Stratford for the engine to right way facing for the journey home.
for the 4th shot I fancied my chances at wilmcote.. and the black 5 was not hanging about.. just like I wasn’t going to hang about if I was going for the finale!!!!
My final location it was shustoke bank, this was the LMS’s home turf the loco working extremely hard to get the power down on wet rails.. truly fantastic, with a dramatic performance with plenty of steam to spare!
Despite losing my wallet and my vape.. and getting absolutely soaked the day has been superb!!!!!

@@LiamsLocos Hi yes it was 👍Regards Phil.
Tremendous footage and a great run. I just feel sorry for the poor passengers in the air conditioned Mark 2’s who can’t see, hear or smell the thing on the front of the train
Thanks for watching!
Was abit of a top gear challenge if I was to make all the spots chosen for this video for sure!
The weather was grim but the black 5 performed superbly
Lovely video of the tour. 👌🏻

@@LiamsLocos no problem mate
Liam, You did well to get this amount of coverage and all nicely captured. Regards, John
Thank you John! Yea it was a bloody wet and busy day! The conditions made filming hard at times with the dull visibility.
Superb performance by the loco and a smile from our mate too :)
My word Liam, you did well today and certainly covered some ground (I won't ask how you made it to Shustoke). I planned Shustoke but opted for a more sheltered spot as you saw.
Sorry you got so wet and admire your dedication but sorry to hear about your losses mate.
All The Best, Brian.
certainly been one of my favourite outings despite the complications mate!
Shustoke was a very very close call let me tell you! I got soaked through all day
@@LiamsLocos You did well Liam, I had an easy day by comparison. I admire your determination & passion.... Hope you've dried out now!
Well done Liam, I still remember our chance meeting at the SVR gala, keep em coming, Keith in Pompey

Good one Liam...as you say, the weather could have been better...I saw her at Small Heath where she had to wait for a red signal....
Thanks Andrew mate!
Yh its been a day of ups & downs today for sure! Loosing my wallet being one🤣
Fantastic performance by the 5 though
@@LiamsLocos pity about the wallet...Guess you can't be sure whereabouts you mislaid it ? These things are sent to try us..
