      TheMorgenTee You can sell off parts of the car like the seats, the wheels and so on in order to get a credit for parts. If you or friends do the labor for free you can get a lot of mods done for very little cash. Some of the cars have ridiculous and funny bodies. The whole race is just a ball of fun. Some car magazines and Top Gear have participated and covered the races.

  • @williamskagen9901
    @williamskagen9901 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Looks like the right idea considering the condition of the car. Its a fairly rare classic, but the good parts left on it are better "spent" on someone elses rust-free C43 project car TBH. Heck, it might even be worth building it into a more serious track weapon after the lemons race.

  • @behnamkia7944
    @behnamkia7944 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    In addition to a) full restoration, and b) race it in 24 lemon, there was another major suggestion, which was to do a minimal restoration to put the car in a relatively clean, honest daily driver form. And indeed this suggestion was the majority... IF you like to race the car in lemon, that is cool! Love to see the process of preparation. But the majority of the comments was slight restoration...

    The Lemons race sounds like the best way to go. I bet the car already has a built in roll cage a car for the German autobahn will be a beefy car that can handle a roll over.

  • @tradingmedic
    @tradingmedic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +73

    LeMons is definitely the way to go with this car although no one will believe you got it for $200. I can't wait to see you document the build and the race. Since you got the car so cheap and it has so many valuable parts (wheels, seats) you can probably get a bunch of performance mods done and still be below the $500 limit. The performance that this car has gives you a shot at winning the whole thing but if you have ever gone to a LeMons race you'll know that is not the point of the race.
    I'm just wondering if you've considered doing something really exotic to the exterior to fit in with the LeMons spirit. Perhaps a Ferarri body kit?

And welding a few patch panels won't be to big of a deal it's not that bad sir and from what I have seen you do with some of your other cars that should not be a big deal, sure the diff leaks and the power steering but as you said yourself it's a simple fix and sure the exhaust work is ugly but a hour worth of work you can fix that. If you want to race it for the race do it! But when your done think about how good of shape the car is actually in mechanically for the most part. Love your vids man keep going. 👍

    If it survives the race, what will you do with it? I'ts a great car, so I wouldn't scrap it. My dad had an E 240 from 1998 I think and I got to drive it sometimes. It was daily driver and he drove it hundreds of kilometers a day on the Autobahn at high speeds. It was abused in a similar way, someone installed aftermarket rear and front lights and blue dashboard lighting. The electric system was totally fcked up, and that made the the electric mirrors become blind after a few days. There were useless mosquito fence mounts drilled into the rear doors carelessly and fake chrome panels were glued to the door handles. He sold it a few months ago bc it was pretty rusty and the exhaust system failed (too high emissions) and the repair costs would've been higher than the value of the car. I was sad to let it go, bc it had a nice leather interior with adjustable seats such as yours and it drove so well... :(

    Shame about the rust, would have been a good series of videos if you had restored it but lemons sound great also !

    I would probably try to restore this car on a budget. Fix or replace the body panels here and there, fix the rust, repaint the engine bay, tidy up that interior, wrap, tint, and its good to go! Not too bad for $200.

    That dotted strip in the rocker panel at 7:55 in the video is edge reinforcement for drywall. It normally has mud/compound spread over it but in this case the past was bondo.

    Word of advice: get some different wheels to race with. The Monoblock rims don't let the brakes cool enough around a track as they should, so you end up with massive brake fade and expedited wear, plus they smell horrible. Know all this from experience, we cooked the brakes a few times on an SLK32 with Monoblocks after a 15 minute session

      XxRaceBoy24xX Very good advice,thanks. I love the wheels but can't have brake fade at the track

    make sure you buy good brake system. It's the main thing that fails outside of engine failure in lemon racing

    Trashing a classic AMG Mercedes in a Le Mons race, where it will get brutally bullied/DSQed or even totaled by organisators for questionable budget? Is this even real life, are we still on Earth?

    It's funny how when you score a car for really cheap (or free as I once did) and it turns out to be not too bad, how that car can grow on you to become your favourite. Even when you own much nicer cars, the one you feel like you scored on will be special.

    • @LegitStreetCars

      Totally agree. Its like we both dont owe each other anything and so there is no guilt with the purchase. I love cheap cars. No pressure at all.
