Awesome video! It reminded me of my experience. I don't know if someone will read this but...I was not expecting getting that emotional during the eclipse . I've seen the pictures and videos before and I always found those very beautiful of course. But nothing can describe the feeling while it is happening in front of you but I'll try. You first look at the sun with light blocking glasses and you first see the moon blocking the sun. I said to myself... ok... this is really happening a bit in denial. And then you see it blocking slowly but surely. The temperature is starting to cool down even if the light is very bright. It made me realize how we are so dependent on the sun's energy for all life on earth. It made me appreciate how sun=life. The shadows have weird shapes. You look at the landscape and you know something is odd. And then... totality his happening, the crowd is screaming in awe, we just can't contain ourselves, it is literally impossible to contain. You feel the hype, it is stronger than what you expected. It is sunset colors 360 all around you and you see what seems like a black hole in the sky. Truly the weirdest and most beautiful thing I ever saw. You can see the sun atmosphere surrounding the moon, it feels violent, chaotic and you can't believe you can see sun storms with your naked eye. It is frightening and amazing at the same time. You can see planets and star which feels like a glitch in the matrix in day time. I felt like everybody wanted to share the joy with others. It removes the day to day problems. At that moment, hundreds of people are just cheering up what the universe can show us. It is a first timer for 99% of us so we are like a child discovering the world again looking confused and excited at the same time. So it is all there, right in front of you, the sun, the moon, the planets, the stars, the animals reacting to us and the light, the insects and bird chants changing, all people around you, many from around the world to see this, different languages, different families, different loves. But all our differences doesn't matter for those 4 minutes we all share one love to us and the universe. I felt connected to what our ancestors felt and I was grateful for them. I felt connected to the immensity of the universe and all its beauty
Wow thanks for sharing you gave me the chills the expressions descriptions on incontrollable shouts screams tears fears love joy deep past ancestral universally cosmic very artistic narrative 👍🧡🌟✨💫
This is a beautiful and accurate description of experiencing a total eclipse. I flew from UK to Dallas for it and I’m so glad I did, it was incredible. I made a video about it too! ❤
This sums it up beautifully. Brought a tear to my eye. I drove with my brother to Ohio -an 8 hour drive- to witness this extraordinary event. It was more than I can put into words. I documented it as well, and the video is on my channel if you are interested 🌙
I appreciate you writing about your experience. I flew to Texas from San Diego. When I got back and people were kind of making fun of me and asking about how it was, I just said "it was great". Because for me to accurately explain everything that happened, physically/emotionally/celestially, in those 4+ minutes would take me longer than 4+ minutes.
You are among the few people who recorded the context of this solar eclipse. Well done for doing that. The thin cloud cover was a bonus. Very enjoyable watch, thank you
"Thin cloud cover"...dude, you ain't wrong. I live in Indiana & we were extremely lucky to have cloud cover like this for the eclipse. And then it rained the next three days
@@s.henrlllpoklookout5069we had thin clouds like these down in Arkansas in path of totality… prayed all week it would not be CLOUDY. Was perfect where we were…. And only had to drive 45 minutes to get near max totality duration. No super bad traffic either… SO grateful to have seen this in person and near where I already live.
I don’t know enough people to make this viral, but it should be. Very best vantage of the eclipse: sun, Venus, sunset, moon’s shadow…organic and cosmic. TYSM
You should see darkness approuching without clouds, moon shadow pierce hole in illuminated atmosphric haze its clearly visible and you can see on other videos if you pay attention
That's the amazing part to enjoy a total solar eclipse on a high ground with 360-degree view, to see the moon shadow approaching, covering and departing.
In my opinion, best solar eclipse clip on YT. Thanks for the video. Like you were there. Thanks you did not zoom in. This is what it is when you watch the sky during a solar eclipse. Perfect. Subscribed.
One zoom-in wouldn't have been bad. Cuz with the naked eye you could see the eclipse look more like a circle (like a neon light circle) than a bright dot. Just saying :)
Can confirm, this is a very realistic representation of what it’s like to see in person. I got goosebumps from watching this. Thank you for sharing this and letting me relive those moments from Monday. We had very similar cloud coverage in Hamler, Ohio and boy… it only amplified the experience. It’s a true gift to get to witness such a breathtaking event. One of the few times in my life I was ever truly speechless.
I was in the Southern US at the time of the 2017 eclipse (at an airport near the center of totality).. Very high humidity made it hazy.... but at the moment of totality, that haze (from the sun glow) disappeared and you could see thunderstorms (glowing orange in the far distance, as it was dark and clear skies at the airport) towering over the horizon, hundreds of miles away) Surreal, beyond description. The experience has to be felt in person.. well worth a long journey to see in person.
This is such a good video! So GRATEFUL to live near the path down in Arkansas… took Monday off and drove an hour to my hometown, got my family then drove 45 more minutes to get near max totality duration…. No bad traffic either and high thin clouds like these… PERFECT weather
My friend and I were lucky enough to see the 2017 total eclipse and the one on April 7th. We drove several hours both times to obtain a great view. This current one was longer, but just as impressive. This is a cliche, but there are no words to adequately express the feeling one has in witnessing such a tremendous natural event. Gobsmacking, might do.
I saw totality live in person and you are right, it's nothing like what is shown on video. What is amazing about this video is you can see the shadow of the moon approaching on the clouds before totality and see the shadow going away after. It looks more amazing if you watch in high speed. But watch in regular speed first!! If you fast-forward you can really see the shadow of the moon so well on the clouds.
You can see so clearly the moon shadow approaching through the clouds. The effect is even more dramatic if you speed up the video. Really cool. Thanks for sharing!
For those who don’t think it’s a big deal - 1) Totality is literally night and day difference from 99% 2) It’s not just a normal sunset, it’s a 360 degree sunset. 3) the environment changes suddenly - birds, insects, and the temperature drops noticeably. No one has seen a total eclipse and said “eh”.
@@bodhi1462 There are more than I thought. Part of the problem is there’s a lot of people who’ve seen a 90-99% partial and think a total is just a little darker.
I'm glad it was just my best friend and I watching the eclipse. No cheering, no shouting children. We were able to fully take in the silence and the moment without distraction.
Glad you captured the shadow approaching. I was in Cleveland with a good view to the west. At first I was irked by thin high layer of clouds...but once I saw the shadow of the moon approaching in the distance, I was very thankful for it! I had not heard of or expected that sight - it made the eclipse that much more impressive.
I remember on August 11th 1999, North of France. Alas it was a rainy day and we saw a very quickly moving shadow. Spectacular. I'll never forget this day. Same reaction. People yelling like monkeys 😮
That was awesome! This is the first video in real time of the eclipse, with no time lapse, and no filters. I actually leaned now, (and didn't know) that is the totality is so fast. I thought that the sun darkens minute by minute, but it is actually second by second! Nice!
4:10 - You can see the moon shadow coming in from the bottom right. 5:44 - Venus becomes visible. 9:14 - Total eclipse ends, with daylight to the west.
When we were in Hopkinsville KY in 2017 there was zero cloud cover, but we were not able to see the approaching shadow like you were here. This is a much more spectacular view due to both your elevation, and also your ability to see the incoming shadow on the surrounding clouds. Awesome video !!! btw, my 2017 eclipse video should be on my channel.
Ethan thanks so much for posting this we watched from first Connecticut Lake in New Hampshire, and while our view was really beautiful, it was stunning to see where you were. You had the sun lighting up the horizon.
I was lucky enough to witness the eclipse from East Burke, VT with crystal-clear skies. Standing with just my mom, dad and aunt. It felt like I floating in outer space while looking directly at totality. An incredible experience I vow to never forget. Thank you for sharing your view, friend.
I had to pause the video to leave this comment. I drove 12 hours to see the eclipse!! The whole time I was worried clouds would ruin it. I will say we had clear skies and a perfect view!! But seeing the shadow rush across these clouds is amazing!! OK I’m going to watch rest of the video now.
This is a wonderful video! You were in a great spot and I love the reaction of everyone around you. Thanks so much for capturing and sharing it. I was in Dallas for it and loved every second and made a video too! ❤❤❤

Love this video. Maybe my favorite so far. A good view of the horizon and shadow approach. Really takes me back to my experience in 2017. I had a similar number of people around me.
Nice work. I was in Ohio. The eclipse was beautiful but seeing the shadow sweeping over is something I didn’t expect. The clouds also added to the effect
That was crazy!! I tried getting the shadow moving in as well from an overlook in the Ozarks, which I got, but only on the ground as it swept over the valley we were looking down on, the sun was too high to catch it like this unfortunately.. But damn good job..
This is one of the best videos I have ever seeon of an eclipse. I could really got the feeling. Think about mankind thousands of years ago. What must they have thought? Sunlight gets weaker and weaker and suddenly sun is gone. I am sure they thought this is the end of the world. And then sun ist showing again, what a wonder. I have never seen a full eclipse (I have seen one, but it was completely overcast), but I am sure it is soo much better outside in nature that with all these people around shouting, talking, celebrating, like in so many other videos.

Thank you for sharing it! Also- do you have any idea what the white dash is coming from the sun @8:26 until it disappears behind clouds and sunlight ~9:46?!
Wow, that's amazing. I didn't think of it being a plane, as it appears to be pointing downwards. I guess it's just the perspective. Looks kind of like a slow moving comet or something emitted from the sun 🙂After that eclipse, it seems anything is possible!
Thank you so much for posting this! ❤ very neat to see it "raw." By the way, do we need glasses to watch the video? Lol just kidding. Not that I was eavesdropping, but "360 degree sunset is the perfect description" again, thank you so much! ❤❤❤
awesome look! what would be really cool is to add a video overlay on the bottom corner that shows the sun as seen through a solar filter sync'd up with the rest of the video - so we can see bright skies but in reality, 2% sun and 98% moon cover.
Im glad that at least on youtube I can mute the volume. I watched the eclipse in person and if i ever did it again, I would do it in solitude so i could soak in the event without a group of people yipping like coyotes. This looks like a great viewing area though.

We were in the path of totality in North-East Ohio: it was truly spectacular, and surreal, but it was not like it is in this video. During totality, where you had to take your eclipse glasses off to see it, what we saw was a perfect bright ring around the moon, and the moon was completely black, darker than the sky around it, which was very dark the way it is at night. Why is it that one does not see this in your video?
@@LightningEthan Oh, I understand. Yes, it was indeed absolutely amazing!! I like that your video captured the atmosphere on the ground, as well as the eclipse itself. That was also beautiful, and surreal.
We were near there. But in most videos I’ve seen, like this one, you cannot see the dark side of the moon in front of the sun. Because phone cameras can handle contrast very well, and it simply looks like the sun.
Yeah I darkened this in the other video I made and you can only see about a few pixels of black over the sun. This was taken on a GoPro but it was just not set up to capture it in detail
Awesome video! It reminded me of my experience.

During totality, where you had to take your eclipse glasses off to see it, what we saw was a perfect bright ring around the moon, and the moon was completely black, darker than the sky around it, which was very dark the way it is at night. Why is it that one does not see this in your video?
That’s how a lot of cameras pick it up if they aren’t zoomed in far enough. It was absolutely amazing in real life, like a black hole was in the sky.
@@LightningEthan Oh, I understand. Yes, it was indeed absolutely amazing!! I like that your video captured the atmosphere on the ground, as well as the eclipse itself. That was also beautiful, and surreal.
Big like!
This was taken on a GoPro but it was just not set up to capture it in detail
very cool!
