How can you not tell the difference? Triple A games are games developed by large companies with lots of people, and indie games are made by independent people not governed by a larger company.
The simple difference and the definitive one is that indie games are made by private, small developers and usually smaller teams of people or in some cases just one person.

a game that is pay2win is per definition not a free2play game, look it up. a free2play game can have microtransactions and most of them have, but the moment you get an advantage that can not be overtaken by hard work, like better equip, statboosts that work in pvp and such, it is not a free2play game anymore. free2play games can offer stuff like exp boosts, equipment and items you can get anyhow but usually are a grind, instantlevelups, mounts that are faster, cosmetics, quality of life things like spawnable merchants or portals.
Titanfall 2 is doing the same thing. But slightly different. One collectors edition is $150, contains a notebook, pilot bust, some other stuff, but no game. Then there's the $250 collectors edition that comes with a full size wearable pilot helmet with flashlight and laser sight, notebook, scarf, 8gb dog tag USB stick, patches, and the deluxe edition of the ps4 game.
They really shouldn't give refunds for people who blindly pre-order buy on day one and cry afterwards. But people just can't learn from past mistakes...

That Black Desert protest was like a much less violent and fiery version of "Burning Jita" that happened in Eve Online. I love when sandbox games allow for these forms of protest.

I think the thing that makes No Man's Sky's story sad is that gamers once again hyped themselves up thinking a game was going to be the 2nd coming of Jesus only to be disappointed because a real, actual game came out and they blame the developer/publisher for their own, dumb purchase. From at least a few months ago, you could see No Man's Sky was just going to be a super exploration game with 100% random things. They even said everything was procedurally generated. It was one of their selling points. That only works on a grand scale if they had tens of thousands of things to pull from, which everyone should have known they wouldn't have that many. And if you are going to give me the "They shouldn't say certain things about the game if they won't be in the game" argument/excuse, I do 100% agree with that. But every single developer/publisher does that and has for YEARS. Even Blizzard has been doing that for a very long time and people still think they can do no wrong. Stop blaming the game and start blaming yourself for buying it.

People will not learn to not pre-order games. It teaches publishers and developers that they can get away with a lot for less effort. I only pre-order if there is a clear incentive. Ironically, my last pre-order was AC: Unity. Not cause I was interested in the game, but the pre-order sweepstakes was just a gold mine of opportunity. It was only for US residents, and it was shortly after the next-gen console release, so people did not preorder it as they didn't have the console to play it on. Wound up winning a prima guide (eh, ebay), and a free headset, which was on the market for $250 and is what I still use since then as its fucking incredible. I canceled my pre-order the day of release and watched Unity burn :)

I know this came out a couple days ago but Amazon collectors edition of battlefield 1 does come with a game, there's a version of it that doesn't come with the game if you so choose which is $80 cheaper (because it comes with the deluxe edition of the game) and comes with everything else including the collectors edition dlc so it's actually cheaper to buy the version with no game or "not machine specific" as they call it and then buy the $60 game separate or buy the game with premium since collectors edition doesn't come with it.
A couple of corrections for #1 Black Desert West implementing P2W: First of all, Black Desert in Europe and USA is not free to play, it's buy to play. It wouldn't be such a surprise, if the game was free to play and had buy to play items, such as Premium packs, pets, costumes with special stats, etc. But since the game in the West is not free, implementing these items is absurd. Second (minor correction), the players did not walk around with signs saying "No P2W", instead the guilds changed their insignias to "No P2W". That's why you could see "No P2W" if you opened the world map - the guilds that controlled territories had "No P2W" plastered on the map itself. The people walking around with the signs are actually NPCs in one of the major cities of the game, Caltheon. They are holding the insignias of whichever guild is in control of the city.
If I recall, the biggest issue with Black Desert Online is that the game was not free; players had to buy the game. So they already paid for the game once and knew there would be cosmetic items for sale to help keep servers running, but were under the impression that would be the extent of $ content. Also, why are they called micro-transactions when some of these games encourage you to spend hundreds of dollars at a time? Pay to win games like Wartune and Stormfall encourage players to spend over $330 in a single day; what part of that transaction is micro?

Actually i think you got no.7 wrong there was a rumor that originated on reddit that steam was indeed making said refunds outside the norm but then it was clarified that the 2 hours rule still applies, but the customer can still get a refund via the customer service the rumor got so out of hand that steam had to put a note on no man sky store page saying that the refund policy hasn't change and steam isn't making special exceptions Edit: at the time of writing the the steam note left on the store page is still in there

People will not learn to not pre-order games. It teaches publishers and developers that they can get away with a lot for less effort.
I only pre-order if there is a clear incentive. Ironically, my last pre-order was AC: Unity. Not cause I was interested in the game, but the pre-order sweepstakes was just a gold mine of opportunity. It was only for US residents, and it was shortly after the next-gen console release, so people did not preorder it as they didn't have the console to play it on.
Wound up winning a prima guide (eh, ebay), and a free headset, which was on the market for $250 and is what I still use since then as its fucking incredible. I canceled my pre-order the day of release and watched Unity burn :)

I know this came out a couple days ago but Amazon collectors edition of battlefield 1 does come with a game, there's a version of it that doesn't come with the game if you so choose which is $80 cheaper (because it comes with the deluxe edition of the game) and comes with everything else including the collectors edition dlc so it's actually cheaper to buy the version with no game or "not machine specific" as they call it and then buy the $60 game separate or buy the game with premium since collectors edition doesn't come with it.
I tried refunding no mans sky twice and they still refused due to it being over 2 hours of gameplay
a friend of mine refunded it with 14 hours.

A couple of corrections for #1 Black Desert West implementing P2W: First of all, Black Desert in Europe and USA is not free to play, it's buy to play. It wouldn't be such a surprise, if the game was free to play and had buy to play items, such as Premium packs, pets, costumes with special stats, etc. But since the game in the West is not free, implementing these items is absurd. Second (minor correction), the players did not walk around with signs saying "No P2W", instead the guilds changed their insignias to "No P2W". That's why you could see "No P2W" if you opened the world map - the guilds that controlled territories had "No P2W" plastered on the map itself. The people walking around with the signs are actually NPCs in one of the major cities of the game, Caltheon. They are holding the insignias of whichever guild is in control of the city.
That nosulus rift is one of those things that make you think, we have more than two thousand years of technologial advance... for this?
If I recall, the biggest issue with Black Desert Online is that the game was not free; players had to buy the game. So they already paid for the game once and knew there would be cosmetic items for sale to help keep servers running, but were under the impression that would be the extent of $ content.
Also, why are they called micro-transactions when some of these games encourage you to spend hundreds of dollars at a time? Pay to win games like Wartune and Stormfall encourage players to spend over $330 in a single day; what part of that transaction is micro?

there was a rumor that originated on reddit that steam was indeed making said refunds outside the norm
but then it was clarified that the 2 hours rule still applies, but the customer can still get a refund via the customer service
the rumor got so out of hand that steam had to put a note on no man sky store page saying that the refund policy hasn't change and steam isn't making special exceptions
