REVIEW: Testing Ooni Pizza Dough Mixes [Neapolitan and New York]

  • While putting cost aside (at least for a bit), I test out ‪@Oonihq‬ pizza dough mixes to see how they perform.
While I find my own personal recipes to be easier to handle, especially for beginners, the results of both dough mixes were fantastic. The Neapolitan had a light and airy crust while the New York had a crisp and slightly chewy bite.
This dough costs $12.99 from Ooni's website (free shipping over $99), and I even found it at my local Ace Hardware for a dollar more. This stuff isn't cheap, considering it makes four 12" pizzas. Sure, it beats take-out prices, but it's exponentially higher than buying the flour and doing it yourself.
However, even with the cost, this product definitely appeals to those who are fine with spending money to make life (a little bit) easier. But more importantly, I think it's perfect for those who just got an Ooni pizza oven and want a great baseline dough to work with.

thanks for the info and trial run. I think it's really cool they're offering something like that for beginners, considering how difficult and stressful it can be to try it out on your own.
great and editing and effort by the way, I hope you gain some traction for your efforts.

Thanks for all your videos, you have the most comprehensive list of ovens in your videos.
    I have a question.
I’m wanting to buy a Halo 16 or a new Blackstone, I’m trying to decide.
I have a Koda 16, and I was wanting to place the Koda directly on top of the other oven.
Will the Koda 16 have room to sit on the Halo or Blackstone?
It’s for a small food truck, which one do you think would be best, Halo or Blackstone? Thanks in advance!

Such a wet dough as a beginner really struggled to get this off the paddle , do you have any tips for the transfer from paddle to oven ??

I haven't tested, but I imagine so. If I did, I would first mix up the flour really well to make sure the yeast is evenly mixed.
You will also probably have to hand knead it - I know my mixer would struggle trying to mix up that small of a dough.
