Like everybody I'm so thankful for your video. Though I work a lot with Sibelius I simply can not keep this tempo thing in my mind, always forget it. So today I looked to your video for the twentieth time, I think! LOL. Thanks again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again&again (a few extra for the future times)
This was an enormous help for me. I'm looking about for a way to disappear the metronome notation on my music now. Bookmarked to my Sibelius TH-cam Playlist
Thank you Hilary. In 2023 Ctrl+Alt+t after selecting the bar then right click (Ctrl + click didn't work on my machine) to open up the description in words OR Ctrl+4 to insert a crotchet then = then a tempo value.
Thanks for this Hilary, but I think you must agree, it is SUCH a long winded and laborious way to input a tempo mark. I frequently need this feature at the start of a new chart, so WHY OH WHY didn't they include it as a ONE CLICK function with 'Key' or 'Time Signature'. No, that would be too easy. For such comprehensive and largely satisfying program, Avid had not bothered to streamline much over the years. I think they should take a year out of all the gimmicky stuff and concentrate on functionality for us users. There is so much room for improvement, some more complex than others of course, but even basic stuff can be improved. As for PhotoScore (I have to admit I tried the 'lite' version), it's almost faster to put the notes in manually. It's dreadful. This could have been so good. I"m only surprised that there isn't something much better by now, although I have heard some great things about Dorico.
do you know how I can mute my speakers on my MacBook Pro touch whilst I'm using my headphones in a cafe even when their plugged in it still comes through the speakers and not the phones help
@@peterlaw201250 Hi Peter, that sounds very strange. Obvious thing to suggest is that the headphones aren't fully engaged. It might be that your macbook pro touch has a fault. Might be worth getting it checked. Once you put your headphones in, the speakers should no longer work. Hope you get it fixed.
@@HilaryBurtMusic I had the problem when I was on Sibelius 6 which I don't have anymore but I could change it to only come through th phones which are B&W.So,perhaps it may be that because I'm on Sibelius First with limited access to things I'm not allowed to get into those settings to alter anything. Many thanks for feed back(no pun intended).Pete in Grimsby.A very good friend of mine lives in Eastbourne who was a percussionist in the Royal Marines,Phil Crabbe.See his webpage.Hes done a lot of work in London,Ronnies etc

Hi Angela, this video is for changing the speed of a piece. If you want to change the time signature to 12/8, you need to go to 'Notations' at the top of Sibelius, click on time signatures, and you'll see a 12/8 option to click on. Hope that helps.
For years I have tried to figure this out with online threads, and in less than 2 minutes you explain. Awesome!!
That's amazing! Thanks for the feedback! I try to get to the core of the issue as quickly as possible - so glad that helped 👍

Thank you Irene! I partly made it for myself so I had a reference too!! It really shouldn't be so difficult!!
Great stuff thanks Hilary. Much easier to find and understand your explanation than in Sibelius's PDF help document.
Thanks Simon! Sometimes Sibelius seems to hide things away and yet this is needed by everyone and such a basic requirement. Glad you found it useful.
Thank you! Finally, controling the tempo of the piece
So pleased it helped!
Thank you so much for this! I've been trying to figure out how to change the tempo for months. Your video was so helpful!
That's great Pat! Thanks for the feedback.
Very useful video. Thank you so much Hilary, I've been scratching my head for weeks. Much appreciated.
Thanks! Such a basic thing and yet so darn complicated in Sibelius for no reason!!
Thank you, the live tempo playback has been driving me crackers and I finally get it to work. Great tutorial! :)

right click>text>tempo,
You can create a quantized midi file in a sequencer and then import and touch up, that's probably the fastest way to work to be honest with you.
@@Andy-lm2zp This worked perfectly for me. Thanks a ton.

@@HilaryBurtMusic You reply almost a year after you posted the video? That’s some serious dedication right there.
Wait, is this how you change the tempo of the entire score? Or just one bar?
Either - it will be good with this tempo until you change it again.
