    Way to run your own race, Galen. I wish you would have won. But seeing how you were 11 seconds behind the leaders at the half marathon, and the weather was poor, you did well.

      If the weather was good then the winner Tura, would have ran under 2:05 or 2:04 and Galen would be way back. But still a great performance by him.

      @@waterproof4403 I don’t disagree, per se. Galen probably wouldn’t have made top 3 if the weather was ideal. Nevertheless, it’s 28 seconds off Galen’s lifetime pr, and it’s been a rocky 3 years since Prague.

      cheers for galen rupp for running so well now dope-free at age 35. but i cannot escape a feeling of 'what might have been... ' as his career heads toward its end. his lifetime bests are not first-place victories; when he does win, the times are pedestrian, the races tactical. perhaps this is the american curse: our ultra-elite talent never develops a 'warrior's mentality' because they don't have to. meanwhile, kenya and ethiopia produce men like tura every year, guys who are willing to suffer to win.

      @@orionoir his lifetime PR’s at multiple distances are races that he’s won. Rome Half, Prague marathon, pre classic 10k, indoor 5k, 2 mile and mile. He’s won Chicago and the Olympic trials twice. I’m just not sure what you mean outside of winning WC medals or some of his majors performances

      @@waterproof4403 no but as far as the women’s race goes, that doesn’t matter too much since they are allowed to run with the men. Plenty of competition to look around at and run with, which is why the last 3 women’s WR’s have been set in coed races

    • @waterproof4403
      @waterproof4403 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jazzyjay4595 right but even the mens field didn't really have depth. Galen Rupp was highly expected to win but he still didn't good with 2nd place. Do you think Emma or Galen would have got 2nd place if the weather was cool and the field had better runners? Look at he Chicago 2019 marathon or any of the London Marathons. The winning times are insane

    • @jazzyjay4595
      @jazzyjay4595 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@waterproof4403 right. I was referring only to the women’s race. The issue with Chicago came down to multiple things: lack of talent due to there being a ton of major marathons in such a short amount of time and it not having as much prize money as others, the weather was particularly warm so I’m sure there were multiple people who were signed up for Chicago, London, Berlin and Boston in some combination and decided to run one based on conditions and competition. I’m sure Galen decided on Chicago for those reasons being he can still secure both a prize purse for overall and being top American. I can’t remember entirely but I think Emma and Sarah both still placed very high in 2019 Chicago. I do believe that American records would’ve been chopped had the weather been 20-25° cooler. Given that it was around 70° at the start, Galen’s 2’06’35 would be around a 2’04’30 according to most weather effect calculators online.
