Well-put together review. I find that NWN2, dispite its greatness is often overlooked. Definitely one of the best RPGs ever.

This is true. Seems to get glossed over a lot.

Thank you for this great review and thank you for being fair to it. This will go down as one of my favorite games ever and it always saddens me how people will drag this game through the mud because they won't look at it for what it was and the time it came out but will look at it through a modern lens. It made me so happy you didn't do that. Great review style too. You just got a sub from me and I look forward to more content from you!

I loved the main campaign more than Mask of the betrayer, especially the companions banter, was awesome.
    Chris Avellone is the best.

Very true. Despite how Chris HATE classic high fantasy, he really understands the essence of it. What him and his team put together in the OC is probably one of the best classic high fantasy games ever made.

The camera angle issues are terrible and there’s really no excuse. Can you imagine the developers testing this for hours and just completely ignoring the constant fight with the camera? The biggest problem just staring them in the face the whole time. Ridiculous.

You should review Mask Of The Betrayer! :) It’s a continuation of the Main Campaign, and gives a rather satisfying conclusion to the game to boot.

Definitely on my list to do this year. I hear nothing but great things from it.

    Hello, nice review
    What mods are you using?

@@kote6915 So I only use a facelift mod and portraits. The facelift just changes the loading screen.

This is my second favourite RPG after Dragon Age Origins. As much as i enjoyed NWN1 gameplay and progression, i got more Joy in NWN2 OC - NWN1 is just... Boring to me in that regard. NWN2 story and the beggining sequence is more personal, party members are great, and the feeling of dnd adventure is present! NWN1 is more of a tool to make great RPG campaighn, while NWN2 is a great RPG on it's own. It's a shame the modding scene didnt got as big as NWN1 - it's somewhat hard to find a good module for NWN2. Man i live this game

For me this is a very hit or miss campaign.
I think I'm not that big of a fan of level design and structure in first act. In tutorial there is very little to explore outside of teaching moments. That's funny how NWN 1 campaign has prologue which is not very life-like in design but mechanics heavy but it allows for little exploration and joy of looting.
After the prologue we start a very strange linear levels. I think in entire first act there is only one place on the map which is not connected by any other major events and it is a cave on the swamps. There is very little to discover on your own because...
Neverwinter as the city serves mostly as part main storyline questline. And I know faction conflict should give you more sense of freedom but I do not think it does. There is so little to see in the city on your own and whole place feels lifeless compared to previous game. (ironicly when in NWN 1 everyone was dying)
After a special NPC joins your team by the end of Act 1 suddenly game becomes much more fun. The story touches more interesting plotpoints, characters seems more commited to the story and even sidequests seem more natural.
I'm looking forward to your next reviews of official campaigns.
If I can spoil anything to you:
    - Think of Mask of Betrayer as something like Pillars of Eternity 1 but with stronger main character focus. There is tons of morality play Obsidian loves to play with.
    - With Storm of Zehir calm your senses and call of the adventure. Think of it as The Infinite Dungeons for NWN 1. Mostly mechanicly interesting expansion. There are good things about the writing but it is better to write down the good stuff you notice before judging the whole.

    NWN2 has multiplayer or coop?

    • @turnsupgaming5949

Both. You can use servers for doing co-op. Also servers have persistent worlds. Nw2 persistent worlds I don't know much about.

it's not an obsidian game if it doesn't end in a powerpoint presentation

True but sadly unlike Fallout NWN 2 OC is much less open for such mechanic to work as well. There are mostly good/bad endings with very little other choices matter.
