  • Swordflight second part continues where the last one left off with us returning to work for a Calimport noble while still trying to figure out why these mysterious monks are trying to kill his daughter.
Considered to be one of the more difficult modules in the Neverwinter Nights Vault library. We check it out and see how it is.

The Prophet Series is still my favourite as a whole but for me Swordflight Chapter 2 is the single best module ever made.

I haven't had the chance to check the prophet out yet but it is on my list to start this year. 👍. Swordflight chap 2 is very epic. I was a little taken back by how all encompassing it was as I continued to play through it.

Having played through "Swordflight" chapter two just once, I can say it is *deep* . And judging from screenshots on Lilura's review of the series, there is *so* much replayability to it, simply by choosing differently aligned paths, classes, or even races. Tons of content you don't even realize is there until you re-roll with a different race or class.
Sure, the tilesets and music are the standards that come with the base game, but really this is a module all about game mechanics, whether that's mastering things you mentioned like UMD, or persuading your way through conversations.
Yeah, it's not as atmospheric or plot driven as some other modules, with comparatively low to moderate world-building, but sometimes you want an old-school style hack and slash RPG, and the grinding is actually fun once you figure out the tactics that work for your build (or realize your build is crap and have to back up a few levels). There were more than a few times I found myself downright giddy from wading in with my HiPS assassin with a lich, azer blackguard and evil dwarven defender in tow, just tearing up ridiculous amounts of enemies.

Hey there! I really like watching your reviews. I'm glad NWN community is still active. Keep up the good work!

Chapter 1 was good, but I also think that chapter 2 is probably the best NWN module. Yep, no buts, just period. And it took me roughly 50h to complete, not 20.
Unfortunately, from chapter 3 things get almost completely linear. Also, horrible, enforced companions that cannot be allowed to die caused too much frustration for me. For some reason, rogueknight thinks it's fun, and adds challenge. For me, that was a complete blocker.
Still, chapter 2 is a must for NWN fans.

Interesting thoughts. I've just been going through chapter 3. This is the second playthrough and you hit it on one part. Very linear dungeon crawl gated by hard fights throughout. It's actual a departure from the first two. I'll have a review of that up sometime in the next month.

Hi man :) Just wanted to let you know that Surviving Horror 1: Enhanced Edition (now known as SH1: REMAKE) is still in the works, I've just had so many other things that I've needed to prioritize right now -- but it's coming, and I'll let you know as soon as it's released! :)

Awesome bud. I'm tackling a few real life things myself. So reviews slowed down but next month I should be back to doing what I do.

I gave Swordflight another shot and play it until the end of Chapter 2. I really enjoyed it. The module finally clicked with me and I love every minute playing through Chapter 2.
IDK if its just me but Zarala finally is useful when she rejoin for the last mission. Kinda awesome.

I really enjoyed it. The playstyle wasn't as restrictive. Where the first part shoehorns you into a methodical role. The second let's you take that idea of difficulty and then just smash through the content.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Swordflight series from chapter 2 onwards, it's a huge task for one person to create such a large mod and rogueknight333 did a great job but between fights getting a bit more repetitive in places and their difficulty only increasing, I much less appreciated the following chapters. One other thing that I like to mention that greatly disapointed me even if this is maybe a more minor thing is that despite the fact that there is some quests with class specific rewards they are always lay out the same exact boring way i.e paladin/cleric rewards behind a turn undead door, rogue's rewards behind a locked door and spellcaster's rewards behind a magical door you can only open with a specific spell. All in all a great module, but you can really tell it was made by one person in the fact that some parts are really identical whether it's encounters or other things.

I'm assuming you're on NWN EE and not the Diamond edition? I ask because I heard that Swordflight can be buggy and have issues with the enhanced edition. Thanks for the video!

As far as I know I didn't have any issues but EE has updated twice with a patch since this video released.

I just very recently discovered your channel and I'm loving the content so far, even though I haven't tried any of the modules myself yet. I see you have a few videos from NW2, but have you ever tried similar player made content for other games? I only know of Unlimited Adventures and Blades of Exile/Avernum that are pure platforms for such.

Just Skyrim and custom wow servers. Though I'm a sucker for a good halflife mods.

IMHO, NWN1 is absurdly moddable in a way very few other games are. By releasing the toolkit with the game, the original developers screamed "build for us!", and the results speak for themselves. While people bag on the tile-based repetiveness of NWN modules, that's a trade off that made it easy to get into building modules.
If you can list some other games that so powerfully enabled players to create custom content, I'd be curious.

Nice video. I have a question, what mods you are using, in general. Like graphical, UI mods and something else because your game look very good and I noticed your UI is different from what I remember.

Hey, I have a couple portrait packs installed from the vault for variety for character images but the mods I use for graphical is just the updated Beamdog texture pack. It's available on the Neverwinter Nights Vault and also through steam in the workshop. The interface mod is called Reborn UI. I also like Miguel's work on HD for weapons and have used his from Steam Workshop as well.

I was totally ready to love Swordflight but there are quite a few glaring issues with it. A lot of it hinges on Zarala and she’s not compelling enough early on for me to care from the very beginning. The dungeons are usually too expansive with such lacklustre loot, that comboed with the slow level progression really hit the snooze button for me. Combat was fun but after learning that I needed to go into another huge sewer system it kind of just turned off my brain. Quest rewards are very stingy too. I really want to like it because I can tell this was a lot of hard work, but damn.
Edit: also your rest room being at the very corner of the huge ass mansion so you’ll have to take minutes to just get there, while your quest giver is literally stuffed in the exact opposite corner… is just so unnecessary, like a lot of the map layouts of this module.
