Really enjoy your teaching! You are the Bob Ross of Sibelius tips. Even had a "happy" piece of sheet music. Have you done one on magnetic layout yet?

Hi. Very very good video. And well explained. Thanks. ..... I have just a question. I have a lot of files made on Sibelius 5 or Sibelius 5.1. but now I have a Sibelius ultimate amazing version. And I cant open them. Tell me please if there's a way maybe to open Sibelius 5 files on Sibelius ultimate. Thank you.

Thanks for watching! If the files don't open directly, I would open your older version of Sibelius and export the files as XML or MXL files, and then open that format in Sibelius ultimate. It may not be the cleanest transfer, but that should work

thanks for this subed, question what is the industry standard right now for music notation? sibelius, finale, musescore or dorico? i heard finale is the most powerfull but not that easy to use and sibelius is way easier.

I'd say that Sibelius and Finale are definitely the standards- Sibelius's strength is workflow as well as it's compatibility with ProTools. Finale is very good if you are looking to make custom lines and objects, something Sibelius does very poorly. Musescore leaves a lot to be desired, but at the cheaper price point it is an OK beginner's tool. I don't know enough about Dorico to have an opinion, but my peers who use it seem to be happy with it.

Any Ideas about importing *.musicxml files (exported from Finale)? This extension is not recognized by Sibelius Ultimate on the import tab.
Any insight would be appreciated. thx

Hm. In my experience, XML file extensions appear as either uncompressed (XML) or compressed (MXL). Both of those should work. I'm not aware of the .musicxml extension. I'd try two things:
If you are on Mac, try dragging the file into an open sibelius window. That might open the file directly, maybe.
Have the Finale file be sent as XML or MXL... I think perhaps .musicxml is an older format?
