    I really get a sense of satisfaction from keeping older vehicles on the road. However if your going to pay a shop to do the work, it might not be worth it. If you do your own work, to me its a nobrainer, fix her up. But thats just me. Really like your channel. Right up there with SMA, Pine Hollow, and Watch Wes Works. Keep making videos and I predict this channel will grow fast.

      @cody6.6max there are several possibilities for those codes. Excessive return fuel flow from the injectors, pressure regulator, over pressure relief valve leaking and worn HP pump. You need to check return fuel flow rates from each head which is a huge PITA to do. As far as I know this truck was never fixed.

    Even in that condition it has some value. I’m sure the owner will agree for further diagnostic time.

    So let me get this right. I’m in a state with my 02 duramax that it starts cold. But once warm it won’t start. No smoke at the exhaust, no surging when started, loads of power When you step on it. After a good drive and it’s at OP Temp it decides to just crank with no start when hot, so I’m stumped. I was almost think fuel pressure relief because the primer on it stays very very hard and firm like it’s primed.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to monitor injection pressure during the crank no start hot condition. Chances are you have an internal leak from one or more injectors and excess return fuel flow. Heat can agrivate the leak rate.

      @@PhillipBailey so what would fix this? O rings and washers?

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @gjeTV well you have to figure out if return fuel flow is excessive, if it is then you have to determine which bank the problem is on or if it's tge pressure regulator, over pressure relief or possibly injection pump. You need special tools to connect to various locations to measure return rates. It's very time consuming and usually results in replacing injectors on at least one bank. Given the age and the know problem with injectors if it comes down to that I would recommend them all. Search TH-cam for testing procedures

    i have a 2004 6.6 lb7 and this diag is helping me so much, have no communication with the ecu with a scan tool but it does crank up with no start... i would be soexcited if this thing finally cranked up and starts using this diag method.. i do have access to all data since i work at a toyota dealership but i have 10 days to diagnose this problem since we have to move our personal vehicles off the lot after 10 days, ill be posting my updated status here everyday for the next 10 days ... i would really appreciate it if you replied to me and any feedback would help so much ! i also say the other dirtymax diesel diag video lol so im gonna use some of that diag process as well.. if you have any tips on what i can use from alldata id appreciate, so as of now i tried connecting a code reader an it doesn't communicate so tomorrow im gonna check that ecu ground bolt and see if i can communicate with any other module as well as printing out the schematic . thank you so much !!!!

      Thanks for watching. Does the MIL turn on with the key? Check all fuses with a test light but also pull out the appropriate fuses to visually inspect the pins. If your in a salt area the fuse panels corrode. Using a wiring diagram load test the battery, ignition and grounds to the ECM. As you said do a network scan to see what controllers you can talk to. Does the tach jump up slightly when cranking?

      Well here I am again, since I’ve driven the truck … it broke down on the road… low rail pressure .. had a cloud of smoke when it broke down and wouldn’t restart … so back to square 1 …. Actual fuel rail pressure is 75 psi and it doesn’t move… ripped it apart in the valley looking for fuel leaks .. changed the fpr and valve, no luck… then watched your other video and put a tank of fuel directly into the 1/2 and 3/8 inlet lines.. rebuilt the filter housing no luck .. now I’m depressed I’ve been at it for a week .. no direct info out there … how do I know if it’s actually the cp3 pump that’s bad or if there’s air in the line .. any advice ?

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since there is no lift pump supplying fuel to the CP3 pump I'd make sure it's not sucking air between the filter outlet and the high pressure pump. Check for leaks on the banjo bolts on the injection control module. You say you have connected an alternate fuel source to the supply and return lines at the left rear of the engine and primed it. 75 psi is really low. Will it run on propane? Don't use starting fluid. If the fuel supply to the CP3 checks ok the next step is to measure return fuel flow from both banks return circuit. That is a pita and requires service fittings.

      @raygood7986 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhillipBailey okay ill report back, ill buy new outlet line between filter and cp3... i have alternate fuel to the line inlet and outlet on the passenger side by the brake booster.. should i try putting the fuel directly into the inlet on the filter housing ? i haven't tried propane yet, should i try that now also? ..... when i removal the line that supplies the cp3 i can see fuel available in that line so im just not sure how to check if the cp3 is receiving that fuel etc.... is there a business phone number i can call you from maybe i can pay your service fee ? i really need this truck running and it was running perfect so i know its definitely a fuel problem.. it has no codes I've fixed all the other little things electronically etc .

    Hey Phillip, I have a similar issue with the same LLY 6.6 engine in my C4500. The truck cranks but doesn't start, and there are no error codes. However, if I start the truck using propane or ether, it runs fine. I assume there are no fuel leaks because the truck runs great once started. I've already installed a new OEM filter and primed it extensively, but I'm still experiencing the same problem. Do you have any ideas on what might be causing this?

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  ปีที่แล้ว

      You likely have excessive return fuel flow most likely due to internal fuel leaks in one or more injectors. At cranking speeds the volume from the injection pump is too low to overcome the leaks.

    • @yllkras7787
      @yllkras7787 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhillipBailey So i took the return line off before it enters the tank and only while cranking the return line leaks all the fule back to the tank, but if the injectors are leaking why does the truck run good when it is started with ether? im thinking its the fule relife valve at the end of the driver side fule rail....

    • @yllkras7787
      @yllkras7787 ปีที่แล้ว

      also Phillip my truck will start right up if i crank back the truck with in 5 seconds after truck was turned off but if i try to start truck after the 5 seconds of it not running it will only crank so I think its just sending my flue back but when i try to block off the return line and try to start the truck the return line gets way to much return fule pressure, to the point where my hand cant hold so im wondering if my relive vale is doing it or something else ?

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  ปีที่แล้ว

      @yllkras7787 as I said before it could be one or more injectors returning excessive fuel, the pressure relief valve leaking, pressure regulator leaking, or a weak high pressure pump. Fuel pressure is related to flow versus restriction. At cranking speeds the volume of fuel is low resulting in low pressure as most leaks back to the tank. There is a spec for maximum return fuel volume for the entire system measured at cranking rpm for a specific length of time and no more than 100ml. Here is a good video; th-cam.com/video/qC5sf_BQhu0/w-d-xo.html
