  • Hey there
    Join me as a take a short history tour of Pretoria, one of 3 capital cities in South Africa (so you will see I learned during the tour 😊 ). I promised I would try to show you things to do in Pretoria and I thought the best way to start is with a bit of history. Enjoy the video!
    Khanyi ❤️

    So many happy memories of studying in Pretoria in the late 90s. Lived in Sunnyside and visited Melrose House antique fair and the stables a lot, also Cafe Wien and the herbarium in burgers Park. Good times and also café monmarte in the city.

    My ancestor ( Prince Tabane ) landed in what is called today Magaliesburg ( Thaba ya Mohale) . He was from Botswana . He fathered the tribe of Bapedi , and what we call Makholokoe and many clans under them . Pretoria is claimed by the royal house of Bapedi ba ha Morena Sekhukhune . It seems like when Mzilikazi went to settle in Zimbabwe , some of his people stayed around this area , that is why you have kwaNdebele . Amandebele seem to be an intereresting nation , as they have their roots from AmaNguni.
    I am from a clan that fled to Lesotho because of the war clash between Mzilikazi and my people .
    The dialect of the people who arrived in Zimbabwe with Mzilikazi is more Zulu and no trace of isikethu.

    In the old days there was live music in Burgers Park on Sundays. Classical music. Beautiful gardens.

    There is a keyboard in one room with a 'straight' German style pedal board. Is this a piano with a pedal board. Do you know the history of this instrument and who manufactured this musical instrument? Thank you for this very informative video. On a side note, my city has two monuments to South Africa. One remembers all the British who fought in the South African wars. The other is a monuments dedicated to the boers and the Irish who fought alongside them during the boer war. Is it unique for a city to have war memorials dedicated to 'both' sides in the boer war? Many thanks again for your very informative videos.

    Great video. Thanks khanyi. Have you thought about visiting Paul Kruger House yet? It might make a good tour. They even have his personal railway carriage. Perhaps old historic houses could be next on your list? Keep well :)

    The island of Ireland also has 'three' capitals. Dublin in the capital of the Republic of Ireland. Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland and Armagh is the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland. Does South Africa have an ecclesiastical capital?

    • @KhanyiMamba
      @KhanyiMamba  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi George. Interesting. No, we don't have an ecclesiastical capital here.
