I think I read the book version of _Max's Christmas_ a while back, but I didn't know about this till a bit earlier this year. I was first introduced to _Max & Ruby_ a while back when it aired on Nick Jr.
@@MikesTOONTOWNI thought the author of the books, Rosemary Wells, was like British or something. I can't remember how old I was or how long it was when I find out that Max and Ruby was based off of a book series, I know it was somewhere when I first started school🤔
@@steviecorpus7565 To be fair, if I was writing fiction and wanted to create a British character, I could see myself settling on a name like "Rosemary Wells".
I was never aware of the "Max & Ruby" Weston Woods shorts until I saw Matt Neff bring up the "Chocolate Chicken" one when reviewing the adaptation from the actual TV show. As nostalgic as I can feel for Nelvana's series of "Max & Ruby", I admire the cozier, bedtime story-like vibes of Michael Sporn's animations.
Honestly the art style of these shorts is somehow even more charming than the show. Traditional cel animation overall looks really charming, because you can see the effort that was put into inking and painting, all done by hand.
Fun fact: one time I was at a thrift store, I saw a max & ruby book in the kids book section. I opened it up and I saw that it was officially signed by the creator of max & ruby “rosemary wells”!
8:38 RUBY LOOKS LIKE SHE'S GONNA KILL HIM HELP LMFAO 😂😂😂 no but seriously I've never seen these shorts! i didn't know Max and Ruby was as old as it is. this is so charming 💖
My first introduction to the old Max and Ruby cartoons was defintely Max's Christmas. I first watched it back in 1st grade and was surprised to know that there were even old Max and Ruby shorts before I grew up with the show that aired on Nick Jr., and I wasn't even aware that there was an old short of the Easter episode until now
This just popped up on my recommendations and I couldn’t be more happy! This is so adorable! I grew up with the TV show so finding out about that they’re even older than I thought is amazing! :3
Max And Ruby is my childhood. I most likely grew up with the Nick Jr Version on the show. But I didn't know this existed until a couple of days ago. This is pretty rare to see Max and Ruby Animations from the Late 80s and Early 90s before it premiered in 2002. 8:43 These credits sound so good. The premiere date of this Pilot was March 29th 1991, But Wikipedia said It premiered in January 1992 which is really odd to think about. The short was produced in 1991 and Not 1992.
In one sense, An even earlier type of short does exist back in 1982 and it does use the same designs used in these shorts here but it's not related to Max & Ruby as much as i know of aside from being written by the same person The 1982 short film also by Weston Woods is called "Morris' Dissapearing Bag" based on the book with the same name, Also by Rosemary Wells
I used to watch Schoolastic DVDs as a kid and I always thought this version of Max and Ruby was more accurate to the original books but I also had trouble looking for it on TH-cam

I didn't even know they even existed back then, just the 2000s cartoon on Nick that I grew up with is all I knew well enough I didn't even know that they came from the 80s
If I were Ruby, I'd be very angry at Max for not playing fair and eating an entire chocolate chicken himself. So angry, that I'd stop speaking to him, till next Easter.
Also am I the only one that finds these original designs for Max and Ruby kind of creepy or actually really creepy, look at them, some people special kids would probably go Awww, but lots of adult would go AHHHHHHH! They look absolutely hilarious but also incredibly terrifying when That eyes are completely wide open 0:46
Be real with me, how many of you knew that these existed?
Not me
I heard about it! Even I saw their styles from the scholastic video collection intro back in 2011.
I only remember the Nick Jr. version.
I knew about it (Well, it was only Max's Chocolate Chicken) since the early 2010s, back when I was obsessed with Max & Ruby.

I am now 28 and I’m just now realizing this show began as shorts from the 80s? I had no idea it went beyond the regular TV show
I was in 1st grade when they showed us the original Max's Christmas short. Now I found out that there was even an original short of the Easter episode
I had no idea that Max and Ruby were actually that old or that the tale was originally British. This is eye-opening.
This is a funny misconception I’ve been seeing. Max & Ruby were made in American. It’s just the narrator of the first cartoon who was British.

They look a LOT different than how they looked on Nick Jr.. and I should know given how I used to watch that show when it was on!

I watched Max and Ruby as a kid, I'm 24 years old now, and I had no idea that these existed until now.
This is really amazing.
I had no idea these existed, but it's really cool that there's another adaptation of Max and Ruby aside from the Nick Jr./Nelvana series.
I feel nostalgic watching these. Yet I haven't seen them before.
"Nobody ever sees Santa Claus."
"Why?"
"Because."
Legit argument.
I actually grew up with these Scholastic Videos with shorts from this studio but I never knew they did shorts for Max and Ruby.
Oh, so they were a part of some shorts from the UK? Neat-o!
I'm now convinced that this video is just a bunch of Max and Ruby pilot episodes.

The grins that they give the rabbits sometimes are low-key kinda freaky
Indeed, too big and crinkly
This really piqued my interest. I knew the Nelvana cartoon, but never the Weston Woods shorts! You learn something new everyday!
Never remembered seeing Ruby being so bossy compared to the 2002 series
I didn’t know these existed, but I really enjoyed watching them. Thanks for sharing these
I never watched the 80s version of Max and Ruby, but the 2000s one is the one I know the most also I didn’t know these exist but these are wonderful
Years later both of these shorts were remade into actual episodes of the show that most of us grew up with
