  • F35B of 617Sqd arrival, hover and departure at Farnborough 2022! We had a fly-past on the schedule, but what a surprise when this F35 Lightening II and its pilot from RAF Marham came and displayed their skills at ‪@bournemouthairfestival3268‬ Volume-up!

    Hovering would look so much more impressive if it was zoomed out a bit, so it could be watched with relation to the ground. Great vid, though!

    • @AA-xo9uw
      @AA-xo9uw 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The F-35B is much more stable in the hover than either the Harrier or Harrier II and we no longer worry about those infamous hot gas ingestion pop stalls of the Pegasus.

      @@pimpmydiecastsdiecastandto3176 It's plenty more maneuverable; one of the other huge problems with the Harrier aside from the ingestion stalls was that balancing the aircraft on the exhausts like they did restricted the CG and therefore armament, couple that with weight restriction and you've got a fairly problematic fighter. The F35 on the other hand can maneuver all directions with ease w/o fear of toppling over or the CG being as much an issue and it can carry all its arms internally. Couple that with its other capabilities and you've got yourself a straight upgrade, albeit a really expensive one but that seems to be the nature of 5th gen fighters that everyone's running into in development.

    • @forzaelite1248
      @forzaelite1248 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pimpmydiecastsdiecastandto3176 3 things: 1, a VTOL display doesn't really get more interesting than an aircraft hovering so it's not gonna be very different between the Harrier or Panther. 2, Military aircraft can be and are restricted from displaying their full capabilities at airshows. The F35's benefits are mostly internal in the first place; same case with the F22 even after we've seen it do post stall maneuvers hinting that it can do more. We don't get to see it bc the public is full of ignorance and potential Russian setups to learn whatever they can. 3, the military specifically asked for this and the military has been happy enough with it so far to phase out the Harrier. Every interview with F35 pilots or even about them says it's an amazing piece of engineering and a great asset. This isn't about what we think we see, this is about what the people defending us say, and so far they say they're okay; I don't see much reason for them to lie, they either have capable equipment and are satisfied or they lack it and request more. I'm not sure what you have against a fighter jet but it doesn't seem like it's based in a lot of reasoning. I can understand the cost for sure, but maneuverability has been stated (and displayed on YT, check dojo drift) many times to keep up with the F16'r rates and F18's high angles, it's as expected.
