People who are able to deconstruct a piece of clothing they see and recreate it themselves while understanding how to measure things, cut things, put it together correctly ARE SO DAMN SMART! You go girl! I bet your brain has so many many creases.
i dont mean to be offtopic but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an instagram account?? I somehow forgot the password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
Good to see you putting pockets into the shorts. The shorts turned out looking fantastic, and would have cost a fraction of what they would have cost in the shops.
Why is that title so accurate? My dumb ass also has to have expensive taste but my brain is just smart enough not to throw that much money (not that I can afford to, to begin with 💀 )on the clothes lmao. These shorts came out so cute and this guide is so useful!
It turned out soooo cute!! More proof that these designer clothes doesn’t worth too much. I always look for clothes around the internet that I could just make and save a ton of money plus I can practice my hobby
That is EXACTLY what I do!!! I get to customize these already existing clothes to fit what I want AND I’m not even spending that much money AND I get to relax by sewing it 🤩
the price tag of designer clothes aren't even for the quality, it's just because of the brand's "exclusivity". Some designers that tend to be working towards pushing the boundaries of fashion as an artform I could maybe see why people would want to pay that price, but when people buy a monogrammed louis vuitton bag they're just paying that because it's louis vuitton (and to be part of the brand's marketing team I guess)
SO TRUEEEE thank you for pointing that out! There are so many smaller designers that create literal works of art with fashion (like Iris Van Herpen 🤩) and just like you said bigger brand name designers just churn out monogrammed items to make money. It’s really sad that the industry would come to that but at least there are small designers that are worthwhile and give us hope for the fashion industry! ❤️
The color coding and use of pins to mark the front and back is SUPER SMART! I'm always so scared when I cut out too many pieces because I get absolutely lost as to what's what!
I enjoyed your creativity and gumption to take on the task, and I further totally enjoyed your personality showing through while doing it! You are a very smart young lady!
These turned out fantastic! I just got into sewing a few months ago, and I've been NEEDING some cute shorts! When you made these, did you add any extra width for the front pleats?
Thank you so much! 💜 In order to make the shorts pattern that I used in the video, I traced out a pair of shorts that I already own. Those shorts were really flowy so I liked the fit of them but they did not actually fit my waist, so the pleats that I made were just the amounts of fabric I would have to take in to make the shorts fit my waist (long story short, I didn’t add any extra fabric. The extra fabric was already there since the shorts were loose and flowy). I hope that helps and good luck with making your shorts!! 💚
Omg, thanks for replying! That's actually really helpful cause I have some capris that have a loose fit, so I'll try using them and shortening the pattern. Your videos are honestly the best and YOU DESERVE MORE RECOGNITION! Thanks again!
Yeah you’re right, it’s definitely a lot easier to do it first! The thing is that I always add a lot of extra space to the waist so that I have room for error, so I don’t know exactly where I would want to place the pockets and I don’t want to risk guessing and having it be in the wrong place when I finish. I’m thinking of modifying my pattern to get rid of that extra space so that I know exactly where to put the pockets! 💜
I would suggest that you make a pair in some scrap fabric then mark some notch positions on the seams before you unpick them. The of course you make a pattern by tracing the pieces and marking the darts and notches - for the benefit of the less experienced.
Those turned out so cute! I'd love to make these for myself one day! When i saw that big pin cushion my brain was like ah those days when id lose needles or my needles sink into the cushion and never come back.
Love these shorts!! Love how they came out. So cute. I always have to stalk stores just to find the perfect shorts. I also have expensive taste so shorts I do want I can’t even get right now. This is definitely a good alternative, giving me a reason to work on my sewing machine as well.
@@AnikaSews yes. Girl I swear its like a curse lol...you can put 5 random piece in front of me and somehow I always pick the most expensive. I just love standout pieces. So this is definitely going to be fun.
I love this! adding to my planned sewing projects once I finish this weightloss journey (dont want to spend so much time sewing my dream wardrobe only to finish losing the weight and have to take everything in) 25lbs down, 175 to go!
OH MY GOSH YAY!!! I seriously believe in you, I know from what I’ve heard that it takes a lot of dedication for this journey, so your progress is AMAZINGGGG I can’t wait for you to make these shorts! 💕
You might find it easier to do the crotch seam and middle seam before the side seams, so pinning the curve is not so tricky. Your explanations are great and I'm tempted to try making my own shorts! (I've only ever made pyjama shorts)
When I first started sewing, I learned that it’s better to do the sides first and then the curve in the middle for a better fit so I’ve just been doing it like that ever since! Now that you mention it though, I might try out your method in my next project! ❤️
@@AnikaSews Sides first is easier for a beginner to understand/do because then it looks more like pants so your brain can conceptualize it a bit better, but once you understand how pants and shorts work it is so much easier to wrangle the fabric through your machine by doing inner and crotch seam first! Idk if you did it with your shorts, but if you zigzag the seam allowances of your crotch seam together (so sew a straight stitch and then zigzag stitch the excess fabric flaps together) then it will be so much stronger, which is good for a high stress/friction area.
THANK YOU! I actually recently made a pair of pants where I did the inner crotch seam first and then the side seams and found that it still fits well, so I’ll probably continue doing it that way from now on! 💜
@@AnikaSews I always look at my RTW clothes and try to figure out how they were made...what order seams were done in based on which seams are underneath other seams. They always do things the easiest way, which is to sew as much as possible while the garment is flat. Zipper and pockets usually go in before any of the seams, too. The only difference for a home sewer is some of the tools, RTW uses a lot of machines that can sew a seam and finish the raw edges at the same time, but a normal home machine you should finish all of your edges first and then sew the seams, or do some other seam finishing technique. (And pleeeease go back and finish those edges. It would be super sad if your cute pants fell apart in the wash.)
That’s a great idea! Don’t worry, already sewed over those edges 😉 sewing over edges is always the last thing I do, I never used to do it but it gives me satisfaction because I feel like I’ve REALLY finished the project!
