4- باب مِنْ فَضَائِلِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: باب: سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ کی بزرگی کا بیان۔ باب سے متعلقہ تمام احادیث دیکھیں حدیث نمبر: 6229 حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد ، حدثنا عبد العزيز يعني ابن ابي حازم ، عن ابي حازم ، عن سهل بن سعد ، قال: " استعمل على المدينة رجل من آل مروان، قال: فدعا سهل بن سعد فامره ان يشتم عليا، قال: فابى سهل، فقال له: اما إذ ابيت، فقل: لعن الله ابا التراب، فقال سهل: ما كان لعلي اسم احب إليه من ابي التراب، وإن كان ليفرح إذا دعي بها، فقال له: اخبرنا عن قصته لم سمي ابا تراب، قال: جاء رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بيت فاطمة فلم يجد عليا في البيت، فقال: اين ابن عمك؟ فقالت: كان بيني وبينه شيء فغاضبني، فخرج فلم يقل عندي، فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: لإنسان انظر اين هو؟ فجاء، فقال: يا رسول الله؟ هو في المسجد راقد، فجاءه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وهو مضطجع، قد سقط رداؤه عن شقه، فاصابه تراب، فجعل رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يمسحه عنه، ويقول: قم ابا التراب، قم ابا التراب ". سیدنا سہل بن سعد رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ مدینہ میں ایک شخص مروان کی اولاد میں سے حاکم ہوا۔ اس نے سہل کو بلایا اور حکم دیا سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ کو گالی دینے کا۔ سہل نے انکار کیا۔ وہ شخص بولا: اگر تو گالی دینے سے انکار کرتا ہے تو کہہ لعنت ہو اللہ کی ابوتراب پر۔ سہل نے کہا: سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ کو کوئی نام ابوتراب سے زیادہ پسند نہ تھا اور وہ خوش ہوتے تھے اس نام کے ساتھ پکارنے سے۔ وہ شخص بولا: اس کا قصہ بیان کرو ان کا نام ابوتراب کیوں ہو ا؟ سہل نے کہا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سیدہ فاطمہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے گھر تشریف لائے تو سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ کو گھر میں نہ پایا۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پوچھا: ”تیرے چچا کا بیٹا کہاں ہے؟“ وہ بولیں: مجھ میں اور ان میں کچھ باتیں ہوئیں وہ غصے ہو کر چلے گئے اور یہاں نہیں سوئے۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک آدمی سے فرمایا: ”دیکھو علی کہاں ہیں؟“ وہ آیا اور بولا: یا رسول اللہ! سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ مسجد میں سو رہے ہیں۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس تشریف لے گئے وہ لیٹے ہوئے تھے اور چادر ان کے پہلو سے الگ ہو گئی تھی اور (ان کے بدن سے) مٹی لگ گئی تھی۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے وہ مٹی پونچھنا شروع کی اور فرمانے لگے: ”اٹھ اے ابوتراب، اٹھ اے ابوتراب۔“

آپ حضرت معاویہ رضی اللّٰہ کی نیت پر شک نہیں کر سکتے ۔ اللّٰہ بہتر جانتا ہے کہ ان سے غلطی ہوئی ہے یا نہیں ۔آپ ان سے اختلاف کر سکتے ہیں لیکن نیت پر شک نہیں کر سکتے ورنہ آپ نبی کریم صلی اللّٰہ علیہ وسلم کی تربیت پر شک کر رہے ہیں اور گستاخ رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم بن رہے ہیں

Muawiyah RA and Salaf e Saleheen Umm haraam al-Ansariyah reported that she heard the Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم) say : " The first army of my ummah (nation) that invades the sea, all there sins are forgiven " . Recorded by al-Bukhari 2924 In Fathul Bari, Sharah of Sahih Bukhari , we read " In this hadith is virtue of Muawiya, because he was the first to invade the sea " . Fateh al-Baree (6-127) Jafar Sadiq narrates from his father (Baqir) that Ali never accused the ones with whom he fought of Shirk (i.e polytheism) or hypocrisy, rather he would say , they are our brothers who disagreed with us. Wasail Shia, 15/83 , also Qurbul Asnad p. 45 Ali said when he returned from Siffin: People! Do not loathe Muawiya's leadership. If you were to lose him, you would see heads parting with their necks like colocynths. Al Bidaya 8/134 Narrated Ibn Umar said: “I have not seen a better leader after the Prophet than Muawiya. It was said: Not even your father. He said: My father is better than Muawiya , but Muawiya is a better leader than him” Al Sunnah by Khalal 1/443, Siyyar by Dhahabi 3/152 , Al Bidaya 8/137 Ibn Abbas -Radia Allahu Anhu- said: “I have not seen a man who is more fit to be a king than Muawiya” Al Bidaya 8/137 , Musannaf Abdur Razaq 20985 It was said to Ibn Abbas: “Can you speak to the Amir al-Mu’mineen Muawiyah, because he prays the Witr with only one Rak’ah?” He replied: “He is a Faqih.” Fathu’l-Bari 7/130 , Sahih Al-Bukhari Volume 5, Book 57, Number 108 Narrated Abdulla Ibn Al-Zubair: “ For Allah is the action of the son of Hind (An expression of praise, son of Hind = Muawiya (r.a.a), we used to fear him. He used to be more bold than the lion standing on his claws, so we would fear him. There is none amongst the people of the earth more wary than him, so he used to make himself gullible for us. By Allah I wished if we enjoyed his presence as long as there is rock in this mountain" and he pointed towards Mount Abi Qubays. Al Bidaya 8/138 Saad bin Abi Waqas said "I didn't saw anyone giving correct judgements after Uthman like Muawiya" Al Bidaya 8/155 Abdulla Ibn Al-Mubarak was asked: Which of them is better: Muawiya Ibn Abi Sufyan or Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz?. He said: By Allah, the dust that has entered the nose of Muawiya with the Messenger of Allah is better than Umar one thousand times. Muawiya prayed behind the Messenger of Allah . When he said: Samia Allahu leman hamida (Allah listens to one who praises him i.e when rising from Ruku) Muawiya said: Rabana wa laka Al-Hamd (Our Lord to you is the praise). What do you want more than this? Wafiyat al Ayan by Ibn Khalkan 3/33 , Kitab Al Shariyah by Ajiri 5/2466 Al-Muafa bin Imran was asked: which is better Muawiya or Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz. He said: Mauwiya was better than six hundred likes of Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz! Al Sunnah by Khalal 2/435 The justice of Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz was mentioned in the presence of Al-Amash. He said: How would it be if you met Muawiya? They said: O Abu Muhammad you mean his patience. He said no, but his justice. Al Sunnah by Khalal 1/437 Qatada said: If you woke up seeing deeds similar to those of Muawiya, most of you would have said this is the Mehdi. Al Sunnah by Khalal 1/438 Mujahid said "If you had seen Muawiyah, you would have said that he is the Mehdi. Al Bidaya 8/137 Al-Zuhri said: Muawiya applied the way of Umar Ibn Al-Khatab for several years, not missing anything from it . Al Sunnah by Khalal 1/444 Shaykh al-Islam Abd-Allah Ibn al-Mubarak (رحمه الله) said : " Muawiya among us is a test, who looks towards him in disregard we accuse him of misguided opinion in the Sahabah " Al Bidaya 8/139 Imam Ahmad was asked, “What do you say - may Allah have mercy upon you - about one who says, ‘I do not say that Muawiyah is the scribe who wrote down the Wahee… And he siezed power by the sword.’” Imam Ahmad replied, “This is a reprehensible view; the people who hold such a view should be shunned and the people should be warned against them.” Al Sunnah by Khalal 2/434. Hafiz Abul Qasim ibn ‘Asakir has documented in Tarikh Dimashq that Imam an-Nasa’i was asked about Mu’awiyah Ibn Abi Sufyan [Radiallahu anhuma]. His reply was: ‘Islam is like a house with a door. The door of Islam is the Sahaba. Whoever speaks ill of the Sahaba seeks but to harm Islam, just like one who knocks a door to enter a house. As for Mu’awiyah, whoever speaks ill of him seeks to find a way to speak ill of the Sahaba.’ Cited in Tahdhib al-Kamal, vol. 1 p. 339 Ibn Qudama Al-Maqdisi said: Muawiya is the Uncle of Believers, the scribe of revelation , and one of the Khalifs of Muslims - May Allah be pleased with them. Lumatul Aitaqad p. 33 Ibn Taymia said: " " Scholars have agreed that Muawiya is the best of this ummah's kings, for the four who were before him where Khulafa of Nubuwa, and he was the first of kings. His rule was that of mercy" Majmua Al Fatawa 4/478 “All the Muslims unanimously agreed to swear allegince to him in 41 AH, and he remained in charge throughout this period until the year in which he died. Throughout this period Jihaad was ongoing in the lands of the enemies, and the Word of Allah remained supreme, and booty was coming to him from the ends of the earth; the Muslims were at ease, enjoying justice, tolerance, and goodwill. He was forbearing, dignified, a leader, prominent among people, noble, just, and a man of chivalry. He was a man of good conduct, forgiving, tolerant and overlooking the mistakes of others - may Allah have mercy upon him.” al-Bidaayah , 8/119 Sadr-at-Deen Ale ibn Ale ibn Muhammad ibn Ebil-Izz al-Hanafi said: "And first king of Muslims is Muawiya, and he's best king of Muslims". Sharah Aqeedah Tahawiyah p. 772 Shamsud-Deen Dhahabe said: "Ameeral mumeneen, king of islam". And he said: " Muawiya is one of the best kings, with his justice surpassing his oppression" Siyyar 3/120 , Al Musdar Nafishi 3/159 Ibraaheem bin Maysarah (ra) said: “I never saw Umar bin Abdil-Aziz hit any person except one who reviled Muawiyah. This one he whipped many times.” Tarikh Damishq by Ibn Asakir , 59/211 Mujaddid Alif Thani says: Imam Malik, who is amongst Tabiin , and a great scholar of Madinah, he gave fatwa of capital punishment for him who talks ill about Muawiya and Umru bin Aas as we have mentioned earlier. If Muawiya was indeed such a person , than why should he gave fatwa of capital punishment to him who talks ill about him (i.e Muawiyah). So from this we understand that talking ill about him was considered by him amongst the greater sins. From this , we also understand that talking ill about him is like talking ill about Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman , hence Ameer Muawiyah must not be talked ill about. Maktubat Imam Rabbani , 4/251

Muawiyah RA and Salaf e Saleheen
Umm haraam al-Ansariyah reported that she heard the Prophet (صلّى الله عليه وسلّم) say : " The first army of my ummah (nation) that invades the sea, all there sins are forgiven " .
Recorded by al-Bukhari 2924
In Fathul Bari, Sharah of Sahih Bukhari , we read
" In this hadith is virtue of Muawiya, because he was the first to invade the sea " .

Jafar Sadiq narrates from his father (Baqir) that Ali never accused the ones with whom he fought of Shirk (i.e polytheism) or hypocrisy, rather he would say , they are our brothers who disagreed with us.

Narrated Abdulla Ibn Al-Zubair: “ For Allah is the action of the son of Hind (An expression of praise, son of Hind = Muawiya (r.a.a), we used to fear him. He used to be more bold than the lion standing on his claws, so we would fear him. There is none amongst the people of the earth more wary than him, so he used to make himself gullible for us. By Allah I wished if we enjoyed his presence as long as there is rock in this mountain" and he pointed towards Mount Abi Qubays.

He said: By Allah, the dust that has entered the nose of Muawiya with the Messenger of Allah is better than Umar one thousand times. Muawiya prayed behind the Messenger of Allah . When he said: Samia Allahu leman hamida (Allah listens to one who praises him i.e when rising from Ruku) Muawiya said: Rabana wa laka Al-Hamd (Our Lord to you is the praise). What do you want more than this?

Al-Muafa bin Imran was asked: which is better Muawiya or Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz. He said: Mauwiya was better than six hundred likes of Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz!

The justice of Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz was mentioned in the presence of Al-Amash. He said: How would it be if you met Muawiya? They said: O Abu Muhammad you mean his patience. He said no, but his justice.

Imam Ahmad was asked, “What do you say - may Allah have mercy upon you - about one who says, ‘I do not say that Muawiyah is the scribe who wrote down the Wahee… And he siezed power by the sword.’” Imam Ahmad replied, “This is a reprehensible view; the people who hold such a view should be shunned and the people should be warned against them.”

Hafiz Abul Qasim ibn ‘Asakir has documented in Tarikh Dimashq that Imam an-Nasa’i was asked about Mu’awiyah Ibn Abi Sufyan [Radiallahu anhuma]. His reply was: ‘Islam is like a house with a door. The door of Islam is the Sahaba. Whoever speaks ill of the Sahaba seeks but to harm Islam, just like one who knocks a door to enter a house. As for Mu’awiyah, whoever speaks ill of him seeks to find a way to speak ill of the Sahaba.’

Ibn Qudama Al-Maqdisi said: Muawiya is the Uncle of Believers, the scribe of revelation , and one of the Khalifs of Muslims - May Allah be pleased with them.

Ibn Taymia said: " " Scholars have agreed that Muawiya is the best of this ummah's kings, for the four who were before him where Khulafa of Nubuwa, and he was the first of kings. His rule was that of mercy"

“All the Muslims unanimously agreed to swear allegince to him in 41 AH, and he remained in charge throughout this period until the year in which he died. Throughout this period Jihaad was ongoing in the lands of the enemies, and the Word of Allah remained supreme, and booty was coming to him from the ends of the earth; the Muslims were at ease, enjoying justice, tolerance, and goodwill. He was forbearing, dignified, a leader, prominent among people, noble, just, and a man of chivalry. He was a man of good conduct, forgiving, tolerant and overlooking the mistakes of others - may Allah have mercy upon him.”

And he said: " Muawiya is one of the best kings, with his justice surpassing his oppression"

Ibraaheem bin Maysarah (ra) said: “I never saw Umar bin Abdil-Aziz hit any person except one who reviled Muawiyah. This one he whipped many times.”

Mujaddid Alif Thani says:
Imam Malik, who is amongst Tabiin , and a great scholar of Madinah, he gave fatwa of capital punishment for him who talks ill about Muawiya and Umru bin Aas as we have mentioned earlier. If Muawiya was indeed such a person , than why should he gave fatwa of capital punishment to him who talks ill about him (i.e Muawiyah). So from this we understand that talking ill about him was considered by him amongst the greater sins. From this , we also understand that talking ill about him is like talking ill about Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman , hence Ameer Muawiyah must not be talked ill about.
