    As a Washingtonian, it's Washington National Airport. If not Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The change in security is a bit of a callback to the old National where visitors could meet passengers at the gate.

      It really doesn't matter what they name it. It's the same way of saying the actual name

      @@Aviation18 It's a bit confusing. Locals call DCA "National Airport," airlines call it "Washington Reagan" and non-local US people just call it "Reagan National." Locals and non-locals call IAD "Dulles Airport" while airlines call it "Washington Dulles." For BWI, locals and non-locals call it "BWI" like JFK and airlines call it either BWI or "Baltimore/Washington."

  • @azan-183
    @azan-183 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video! Just a few things I wanted to add. BWI is the busiest airport (2019), 2nd is Dulles, and 3rd is National.
    The old terminal distinction was very confusing. Terminal A had one pier, Gates 1-9. Terminals B and C (it's one building) had three piers, gates 10-22 were Ter. B - Delta, United, Alaska, gates 23-34 were Ter. B/C (most confusing thing ever, the C side of the pier was American, the B side was Jetblue), and gates 35-45 were Ter. C. - American.
    Right now, after April 20's soft opening, their Terminal designations have been removed from the maps and everything is currently identified by the gate number, with the new concourse having gates 46-59 (so a total of 59 gates)
    American Airlines passengers don't have to reclear security, there is a transfer bus currently between Terminal C and B/C for the few amount of connecting passengers. With the new checkpoints, all three American piers will be connected by the National Hall.
    The new concourse is not part of Terminal C, they are renaming the piers from A-E upon completion of the entire Project Journey including the final opening of the concourse in July and the two new security checkpoints that puts National Hall behind security.

    American Airlines still runs a shuttle service between this concourse and gates 35 to 45 for passengers looking to connect without exiting the secure area. The shuttle departs from near gate 23 and operates daily from 3:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
    Gates 35 to 59 are located at the north end of the airport with only American Airlines operating from the 25 gates numbered 35 to 45 and 46 to 59. 1 security checkpoint is located at the entrance to the concourse that serves both gate areas. this will change this summer with all of national hall being put in the secured area of the airport which makes me :)

      @@Aviation18 Speaking for the AA operation only, on the piers it operates on there is no need to transit a checkpoint again to connect, the shuttle goes between the three pieces screened by the two AA-centric checkpoints. You can walk and go through the checkpoints but there is no need to. You are very correct that the new security configuration will vastly improve the user friendliness of the facility a DM eliminate the need for the shuttles.
