    Wow! Really makes me appreciate what our ancestors went through to get a warm sweater. I'm glad these traditions aren't totally dying out. If you count all the hours from sheep shearing to finished product, a good sweater would be worth thousands! And they say women are underpaid...

    Thank you. I've been twisting my plarn in the worst way possible up until now. It was a nice meditative project to do while watching movies for a while, until i realized the strain i was putting on my poor hands. I finally decided to look for an easier way,and foubd this video. Time to buy a drop spindle!

    Okay 2 things. I'm on a great painkiller for some egregious chronic back and nerve pain, and this video is hypnotising with its calmness. I was thinking you've either found a super chill spot in life, or the rage is like rightthere waiting for somebody to say something ridiculous. Either way, it's a great video and I subbed :)
    Second thing, I've looked into learning spinning before but was too intimidated (and confused) to get the supplies and try. The way you explained it somehow made more sense and I'm gonna look into getting a drop spindle :D

    What a great video! Thanks for the hints and tips. I've already made some door mats and such with plarn but I've been wanting to try my hand at spinning as it makes it so much stronger. I also have some heavy duty bags that we have from buying wood pellets. I wonder if they'd be too heavy duty to spin? Has anyone tried this? I have many, many, many pellet bags that I just can't throw away because they're so heavy! They have been used as a weed barrier (fantastic!) and as garbage bags but I'd love to find another use for them.

      I'm so happy you enjoyed it! With spinning heavier plastic, I would give it a try for sure. If you cut it thinner so that it fits in the hook, it could potentially totally work.

      So glad you enjoyed it! I haven't made a tapestry from plarn, but have been really wanting to lately - that would be amazing!

    This is awesome, I’m wanting to apply this to a weaving chair project that I’m doing. Quick question, how do you avoid the twisted plarn opening up/undoing? Since I’m playing to use this plarn for weaving a chair and not to “sew”, so because is just one Braided twist Im afraid it could undo..

    • @CactusLadyCreation
      @CactusLadyCreation  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm so glad you enjoyed! Weaving a chair so super cool - I find it helpful to really make sure that the plarn strips are cut on more of the thinner side. Not all plastic is probably equally great for this project, it might be best to find one that is a bit on the softer side if you're going to spin it. Also to make sure that there is even tension all the way through as you're spinning it. Good luck and I hope I could help ~ let me know if you have any other questions.

    In Germany we don't have any plastic bags at the stores anymore. But we do have fruits, vegetables and meat wrapped in plastic. sadly, we cannot use these for such a project.

    • @CactusLadyCreation
      @CactusLadyCreation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Wow that’s amazing - I’ve always wanted to go to Germany! I hope that we stop having plastic bags at stores one day in the U.S. Yes, sadly plastic food wrap wouldn’t be able to be used for this project, but that’s a good challenge - I’ll have to experiment with how to use them for a future video. Thanks for the inspiration!

      @@CactusLadyCreation These sleeping mats from plastic bags can save lives, especially in the winter. I hope many people make them and hand them out to homeless people or give them to shelters to hand them out. So I really appreciate you having posted this idea.

    Would you please explain why we cannot use the top and bottom if we can tie them together into a loop?

    • @CactusLadyCreation
      @CactusLadyCreation  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's simply because you need to cut the bag into loops to make the plastic yarn. Since the top of the plastic bag generally has handles (so you have to cut them off) and the bottom can't be used to make a loop because one side is sealed together. If the top of your bag doesn't have handles you can use it if it makes a loop, however I couldn't use the top of mine since there was excess plastic on top that needed to be trimmed off. Hope this helps!
