Half-double is good too. I always feel like I’m getting more done faster (pulling through all the loops at once 😊), while still maintaining a thick pattern with the HDC.
I love that all I have to do is get some crochet needles, I dont have to go out and buy a bunch of yarn or anything, just the bags in my home and the needles! This is so cool 🧡
This actually first same from the real story “One Plastic Bag” about this lady called Isatou (I forgot how to spell it so I think that’s it.. ;-;). You should check it out! It’s an interesting story :)
@Marfels Lifel so you don't ever end up with plastic bags. Cool cool but us imperfect mortals do and other than wadding them up under the sink or throwing them away, this gives us an idea to reuse those bags long term. Plus I don't know if you've actually tried to reuse an empty plastic bag but they are hard to fill, don't fit back on the metal rack that holds them open, often have holes in the bottom that rip open or end up necessitating a second bag to keep the goods inside, they also tend to break at the handle making it a moot point anyway because you cut the handle off when making plarn and a plastic bag without a handle isn't reusable but by all means continue being a self righteous prick
For as much as you’re struggling to pull the plastic through your loops, I would’ve sized up two or three hook sizes. Definitely going to try this though!
I'm totally trying this! I was struggling to find a clear and informative video, and yours also showed how to make the plarn, which helped out a LOT. Other videos were old and low quality, but yours was wonderful! The only thing I found a little confusing is the slip stitch. At the beginning, you referred to chaining as slip stitching. It didn't mess with anything, but I just thought you might want to know! Absolutely love the video, though. Your editing was on point and overall I think everything was very relaxing and helpful. :D
I used this pattern with Pline (It’s the same as Plarn, but the bags are twisted before being looped together) and it came out great. Thank you for the great tutorial!
Thank you I've been wanting to get back into crotchet but yar is just so expensive. But I have tons of bags sitting around & can easily get more. It's very easy to follow along too & understand everything. I'll definitely be bookmarking this.
Thank you for your video. I’ve made reusable bags out of yarn and have been saving my bags to make some out of the plastic. I like your method of cutting the strips. 👍🏼
This is awesome and the music is so relaxing. I'm ok with knitting but always thought crochet might be too daunting - from your video it looks like something I could do (or at least try!). Thanks for the video!
I just had the idea to knit with plastic bags made into yarn, and you've already crafted with it! Great job and wonderful editing. I was going to ho at it from a more t-shirt yarn sort of way, but the loops you make in your video simplify what I was thinking of. I found this though because I was looking up how to hand make a knitting loom and saw your video.
For several years I crocheted bags using plastic bags and enjoyed mixing colors for various schools, parties and etc. However, there has been a shift in the quality of plastic and nearly most of them are programmed to disintegrate faster. So I now make bags from fabric as my time is a huge factor in sewing /crafting. But it was a worthwhile project before the plastic bags were changed.
i found this video very informative and relaxing to watch. i only have one question tho, what is the size of your crochet hook? i am planning ti buy a big one too to use in crocheting plarn and i think some advice from you might help. thanks a lot and keep creating! ❤
It all depends on how thick or thin you cut your strips or want your “plarn”. The wider the strips are the bigger hook you’ll need. You can play around with strip sizes and hooks/needles. It is a workout on your hands so you might have to take breaks. Have fun with it.
Totally gonna about to make this! Do you mind explaining what you meant by 8:57? I did'nt really understand what you meant by "increase a stitch in each corner." Really loved the video though!
Hey Mahad, Thank you for your kind words😊. In 5th row, I put an extra stitch in each corner making 4 stitches increase in total. By adding an extra stich at each corner, it gives a bit more width to bag making it more curvy rather than just cylindrical. This is an optional step, if you don’t do it, you’ll get a cylindrical looking bag.
Thanks soo much sister arlene easy but not so easy once you get doing it will take a long long time to make depending on how long it takes you to make it right sister . Bonnie
What’s the difference between this where you have the ends together of each piece vs where you cut it and have one continuous strand of plarn? Like what’s the purpose/importance of the ones being together before you knot them?
Using the loops is sturdier than one continuous strand. If you do not plan on the plarn holding weight, like in a bag like this, you can use the single strand all you like! The loops provide stability and structure. If you twist the loops into pline (plastic twine), that is the MOST sturdy.
This is great! Couple of tips, though. Get sharper scissors, there’s a quicker way of joining loops, and what you call slip stitches are actually chain stitches. Also, you’re tightening your stitches too much. Loosen up a little. 😊
Hey Samantha, thanks for your message. ☺️Can you please specify the timestamp of the video where you are having confusion. It would be easy for me if I know the time stamp.
