I honestly believe the 95 Rockets had some luck go their way they did have to play in 5 elimination games the first 2 rounds alone so there were signs of vulnerability, that version of the team wouldn't have matched up as well with the big forward lineup of the Knicks compared to this team with Thorpe and Herrera.

Why would they? The reason the Bulls had a longer championship window in the first place was because they had better management. The Rockets had a bad habit of constantly trading away core players, they even wanted to trade Horry their 1st championship season which would've backfired big time if that actually ended up happening. The Bulls on the other hand always kept their core together.

The heartbreaking gaze of John Starks searching for courage under the heavy weight of expectations and repeated failure, remains imprinted in my memory. I understood Riley's insistence - one successful 3-pointer would have pulled Starks out of his psychological hellhole, save the game and save the man. Riley, Starks, Ewing, Mason, the New York Knicks, heck the city of New York, at its finest moment, a love and loyalty that never quit even as the cauldron of glory was slipping from their fingertips. Ever since the 95 championship against the Magic, Houston sports have been cursed. I will forever cherish these 2 championships. We may not get another
Facts We should have won in 2018. And Would be extremely historic to See Harden and CP beat the Invisible 17-18 Warriors. but We missed nearly 30 3s in game 7. I would like to believe if Cp ain’t get hurt and we have Capela. we would have won in 6. Also, I feel Like Tmac and Yao were cursed. I doubt we could have won a title considering 2000’s were stacked like 90s. but Them two definitely could have made some deep playoff runs (a finals appearance or two if we’re lucky) at the minimum.
Man I loved this team. I've often heard it said the 94 team wasn't as good as the 95 team but I disagree, I think they were both on equal footing in different areas. This 94 team was hitting on all cylinders when they beat the Jazz in 5 games, it's just they had to wait on the Knicks who went 7 games with the Pacers and the Rockets cooled off a little bit. Plus New York was a great team and they played very physical in the 90s, and would beat the heck out of their opponents. In 95 the Rockets played up tempo but I'm not so sure that style would've worked so good against this particular team like it did against Orlando. Against these Knicks the Rockets really needed a bruiser like Otis Thorpe to help with Mason and Oakley to win the finals.
The big difference was this Rockets team played the EC style which was extremely defensive minded while with Drexler they played at the standard WC pace. Also it wasn't just Thorpe but Herrera also played a huge factor against the Knicks. Horry moving over to PF was actually what really won the Rockets the 2nd championship because he would force his defender to go further out to defend him. However with the big lineup the Knicks used I don't know if Horry at PF would work against them. Mason would've been guarding Horry the majority of the time so Oakley would've been able to do major damage inside against Pete Chilcutt and Chucky Brown.
@@ChrisM07 what makes me look back and shake my head is how we traded away key components of a championship team to get Barkley. The main reason they did that is because they needed a true power forward to get by Seattle and all they really needed to do was keep the team together and pick up Willis. While it's true Barkley helped to get passed Seattle in 97 we then didn't have the right match ups to get passed Utah, whom we beat in 94 and 95, and Utah pretty much had the same lineup in 97 as 95.
@@elbertbass9259 Apparently Barkley realized the Suns championship window was closed and wanted to go to a contending team. I think the main reason he didn't really fit the Rockets system was because he sometimes took too long to shoot which caused the offense to stall he needed a KJ type guard to compliment his style of play.
@@NickIntoTech The Sonics were relentlessly double teaming him and the Rockets didn't have a PF near the basket to make the Sonics pay for doing it everyone else was usually standing around on the perimeter.

@Blue Skeptic How? He went a respectable 17/10 against the DPOY/MVP. Starks on the hand literally threw away over a dozen possessions with his god awful shot jacking.
I always imagined today’s Rockets with Hakeem. He would easily be the center and should dominate except D’Antoni and Morey don’t want him doing dream shakes and instead he would jacking up 8 threes a game. Today’s Knicks with Ewing would be dope. They got a million power forwards but not a true center so Ewing should translate seamlessly and putting up elite numbers. But the Knicks are terrible and it’s gonna take more than just Ewing to turn it around.
This makes me cry as a Knicks fan, if Starks didn't catch fire in game 6 at Indiana we would've lost that series and never made the finals. As a coach you put faith in your players to give them confidence, especially if you've seen him kill it before and win games. Ewing was more to blame for the finals cuz he didn't come close to his averages but also without him we don't get there either. We should've won at least 1 title in the 90s though SMH
As a rockets fan I feel bad for the Knicks since they got so close so many times, but.. I’m quite Stingy about our 2 rings 😂 I wouldn’t give anyone One of them 😂 not even To the suns (who if I had to give a ring to, it would be the Suns with Charles Barkley) That’s just what happens when The greatest player of all time (Micheal Jordan) gets put on a borderline Superteam especially in the second three peat with Ron Harper Dennis Rodman and Steve Kerr. - P.S literally no one could stop the Dream in his Two best years, 94 and 95 the only player to Preform better in the playoffs than Regular season,

I dont hold it againtst him tho if it wasnt for him we wouldn't have gotten there
@@ScottFree973 Rodman was effective against Shaq because Shaq had other problems like his inability to block out on defense and also not getting back fast enough in transition, remember the Rockets were able to handle Rodman down the stretch in 95 and that was with Thorpe and Herrera not with the team by then.
Olajuwon has 2 rings, but I think he would've had more if he played in his prime today. I also think Ewing would've had at least 1 ring if he played in his prime today. But that is just my opinion.
1:42:22 how is that possibly a foul? Anybody talking about how it was more physical back didn't watch all the games like I did. Today's ball is way more body to body contact, but back then the did more flagrant fouls, but that doesn't mean more physical in general.

Ever since the 95 championship against the Magic, Houston sports have been cursed. I will forever cherish these 2 championships. We may not get another
Yeah. Bill O'Brien is trying hard to not give Watson the tools to win.
@@THERobertL2000 I do count it, but if I say I do, then the mob will come at me, so I tend to keep that one to myself.
Astros have 2 titles since then...calm down...
Let's forget the Comets' 4-peat in the WNBA or the Dynamo winning MLS cups. Still, championships rarely come to any team.
J. Starks hits the 3 and Knicks win it all!

6:30 quite the way to open a game!
Rockets baby 🚀
LMFAO at the digital Squarespace logo on the court 🤦🏽♂️
AK Sour God ‘The Summit’ logo
Erix7810 So it’s not Squarespace?
Erix7810 or did ‘The Summit’ become Squarespace? Because it’s the exact same logo
The Dream dominated 1994 NBA Playoffs
He also dominated 95 playoffs and held his own in the 97 playoffs (in 96 He had no answer against the Sonics)
@@NickIntoTech The Sonics were relentlessly double teaming him and the Rockets didn't have a PF near the basket to make the Sonics pay for doing it everyone else was usually standing around on the perimeter.
damn starks. He was cold and he also allowed maxwell to shoot that three
The commentators calling the death of the hand check is crazy around 10:00 mark
John Starks was MJs best guard competition in the 90s in the East remember that
Yeah Reggie Miller was a few decades away
So Clyde Drexler, Reggie Miller, Mitch Richmond, Latrell Sprewell and Joe Dumars didn’t exist?
Man i see why knicks fans are so disappointed lol. They were great on defense though
At least terry rozier bounced back after costing game 7 vs bron in 2018
Do Isaiah Thomas 53 point game vs wizards game 2
You mean Bullets?🤔
17:19 "falling out of bounds" no he was standing holding ball with one hand and just threw it on him lol
masas911 lmfaoo I said the same thing
*YEET*
to me, John Starks lost that Championship...
Yeah in game 6
@Blue Skeptic yes, as the franchise player he takes blame as well
Pat Riley is to blame for not pulling Starks early in the game
@@summeronio9751 he was slashing and getting to the line maybe that's why he remained what I don't get is why did he kept shooting knowing he was not making it...
@Blue Skeptic
How? He went a respectable 17/10 against the DPOY/MVP. Starks on the hand literally threw away over a dozen possessions with his god awful shot jacking.
Where is curry?
You should try to find some Showtime Laker basketball to replay
2016 nba finals game 7 please
Watching this makes it hard to watch current nba
Yes Starks was off but this was all on Pat Riley not putting Herbert Davis in! This still haunts me today lol.
Hakeem the Dream 🐐
Imagine what type of stats Hakeem and Ewing would put up in today’s systems??!
I’m quite Stingy about our 2 rings 😂 I wouldn’t give anyone One of them 😂 not even To the suns (who if I had to give a ring to, it would be the Suns with Charles Barkley)
That’s just what happens when The greatest player of all time (Micheal Jordan) gets put on a borderline Superteam especially in the second three peat with Ron Harper Dennis Rodman and Steve Kerr.
- P.S literally no one could stop the Dream in his Two best years, 94 and 95 the only player to Preform better in the playoffs than Regular season,
@@NickIntoTech even tho I hate the Rockets MJ did say he didnt wanna face them in the Finals cuz they had no answer for Hakeem, even tho Rodman could've gave him problems since he did shut down Shaq a few games but if Ewing played to his averages we would've beat you guys in 6.
@@ChrisM07 yeah that’s true too but as far as 95 I’m pretty sure if you put an MJ that never left the league on the team they win
@@ScottFree973 Not with Kukoc at PF that wasn't getting them out of the East regardless.
I pray to God I live to see just ONE Knicks championship!!
HAKEEM THE GOAAAT

Y’all getting on starks while Ewing fucking up everything as well

4:25 what's the background songs name?
The hey song
Pat Riley blew this by not playing Blackmon or Davis off the bench.
To this day, when John Starks hears Phil Collins' song 'I Missed Again' , he just has to shut it off in disgust.
Anyone know the name of the song played right before tipoff??
Gary glitter- Rock n roll part 2
always knew john starks was overrated af
10:00 look at that physical handchecking. There’s no way today’s point guards could score on Derek Harper. They don’t make defenders like him anymore.
thelegendsqb1 kyrie would
thelegendsqb1 it’s not that they don’t make defenders like that it’s just that the rules won’t allow it
And the whistle blows..
Good, Harper style hand checking isn't basketball we a knew it back then so the rules got changed.
0:06:21 Opening Tip-Off
Anyone know the name of the song played right before tipoff??
that herrera dude is like every black man in anime
LMAOOOOOO. Nigga look like Captain Black n dragonball
Now all these players are in their 50s and 60s.
Stop talking basketball. Vince Carter even comments on how the game back n the late 90s and early 2000s was more physical. Harder screens, and handchecking.
@@handlebucket6285 everyone says that shit. It's like your grandpa saying he had to walk 100 miles up hill both ways. How stupid can you be. These guys body up way more today than back in those days grandpa.
@@J.J.J.J.J.J.J They don't. Watch any game from the mid to late 90s.
@@handlebucket6285 Bru, I've played back then and watched the games live. They get hit inside more when they drive to the hoop, but there is WAY LESS chest to chest body contact from defenders. You must just watch those hyped up videos showing a lot of hand checking and rim contact. That is way less physical than the body contact of these days. YOU WATCH the games and find out (not just bloody highlights). And reference what I'm explaining when you watch it rather than just assume there wAs MOrE coNTaCt without defining what you mean.
had Ewing entered the draft in '84 he would have gone #1 overall over Olajuwon & MJ (& Bowie) making him one of the greatest prospects in NBA history... Knicks outscored Rockets in '94 Finals, Pacers tied Knicks in points scored, Bulls outscored Knicks in '94 Playoffs; very even level of talent at the top in '94... Pippen was 5th best player in '94 behind Olajuwon, David Robinson, rookie Shaq, and Patrick Ewing; but better then Barkley and Kemp and Karl Malone; Scottie played PG while scoring 20+PPG with elite athleticism and defense... fax!!!
Pls do the Devin Booker's 70 Point Game...😁
Back when the Knicks were good...
John Starks is the rea son I stopped Being A Knicks Fan in 1994.
Why
When Knicks were good
Damn Starks was building with them bricks I feel bad for the Knicks man
I can never forgive the knicks for losing this game.😔
44:00 damn kenny 😂😂😂
Why Rudy versus Hakeem? No one writes Riley over Magic?
Knicks had this finals in the palm of their hands. If Starks makes only 3 three pointers and free throws, they would have won. They had it….. Knicks had it…
Bruhhh the knicks have 3-2 series then the NBA are making NBA Champions Caps then suddenly Houston Rockets won. NBA: Take this price tag cap instead
