This formula of soap has it's pros and cons. I gave my buddy (his first introduction to wet shaving) a Omega 49 boar and a tub of this Mondial. He loved it! I think he really liked it and told me his skin in more oily. I think he found it perfect because it will build lather easily without serious thought or technique. The formula being a high coconut oil will be slightly cleansing or more drying post shave wise so maybe it won't be suitable for everyone. The additional points it deserves is scent pleasantness and strength. The overall ease of lather as well as presentation and amount of product in the container is appealing. It is a bit pricey in my opinion but still a solid performer, maybe not the best in all categories though. Michael, I don't know if I have said this before but my kudos to you. You have the best shave review videos as you are fair to the products and fair to yourself. I and many viewers appreciate your continuous use of products around the time of your review. Although I don't always like watching a full shave on youtube shave channels, I am usually watching yours and enjoying as well as taking in your honest view of things. I would be really excited to see a good review of an Acca Kappa cream or hard soap. If you ever wanted to sample (even if it isn't for a video) of Saponificio Varesino shave soaps, PM me and I will happily provide a few samples as I appreciate your continued effort on the channel. In regards to TFS, read @lampuhkap's Shaving Channel comment. I second it completely.
+Zac likestoshave Thank you for the feedback, really appreciate that, and I am very happy to hear these reviews are working for people! I totally agree with you on the plus points for the Mondial soap. It smells great, it is very easy to lather, it comes in a premium package (for those who like that extra bit of luxury). I just can't really explain why it seems to lag behind the other TFS soaps I have used. Thank you for the kind offer of some samples, but I just got a full size container of Saponoficio Varesino just a few weeks ago...that soap will be up for review soon! Acca Kappa...another soap I have never tried...
Greetings Michael, I agree with Zac on your shave reviews being the best, thank you for taking the time to create them. On the V3, I pulled the head out of storage and used it three times with proven soaps - it does feel aggressive and a bit rough occasionally, closer to the feel of the V3A rather then an R89... having said that, it is also fairly efficient and has given me good shaves, especially considering the price point. If money is no object though, I prefer other razors for daily use, like my Progress. Cheers, Roberto
I can completely understand that - other razors may well be more comfortable than the V3, but it is very hard to beat that razor head with one of the many great Maggard handles as part of the Maggard Razors wetshaving starter kits. Ah, if money was no object :-)
Great review! I'm getting my Maggard V3 delivered today, and it's my first DE. (I've been using a shavette exclusively until now.) You've bolstered my confidence in the Maggard, so I'm really excited to try it out as soon as I get home tonight. Thanks!
I think you will find this much easier to use than the shavette, more forgiving and less prone to nicks. It's a great value razor, I love the handle options, and it gives you a well designed "standard" head. Let us know how it turned out!!
By now your shaving mirror your skin such as beef leather, Michael.Graat! The hollow sound of the blade makes it feel a conceptual shaving. Hello Mauro and friends on my channel mauro
A pretty good shave, but I have to confess that I am still a little confused by that soap. TFS makes great soap, but this one just did not work so well for me. No matter, plenty of other soaps in the queue!!
Yes it is my shaving buddy hey I got me two of them timeless razors they are awesome very efficient and built with precision in two passes I have a BBS
I found that I quite liked the Maggard V3 razor. I think it gives a very close shave with a 3 pass. I also found that the V3A was a nice head. I found that it did a good job with 2 pass shaves, and was a nice and non-irritating option for shaving every day. The only experience I have with TFS is the Abbate y La Mantia "Lareato" soap, which they produce. That one has never presented any performance concerns.
+Patrick Tracy Laureato is a great soap, really liked how that treated my skin! I am looking forward to trying the V3 head with some other soaps, as I too got a very good shave with that head...very close to BBS in that last shave. I think the V3A will be coming my way soon, even though I normally do not like overly aggressive razors.
Michael, we miss you. Come back to make more videos soon! I am in withdrawal from our regular Sunday "conversations" - i.e. where you talk and I listen :)
Its the TFS soap, jup :D They are the EXACT same soaps. TFS does fabricate the soaps for Mondial. Names are the same, soap is the same, only the packaging is different now. But that was the same too, just differrent labels a few years ago
+Lampuhkap's Shaving Channel I KNEW IT! I cannot explain the difference in the performance, unless I am just mis-remembering how good the TFS soaps were. I have one of their newer "pinup" soaps which I just got, which will be an interesting comparison to the Mondial soap.
I recently put pre-shave oil on before using this soap and was still disappointed with lack of slickness. The lather dissipates quickly also. Disappointing because the scent is great.
Exactly, for some reason this version of the soap (which I still think is sourced from Tcheon Fung Sing) is just *not good* - thin lather with poor slickness. Great scent, but poor soap,.
Hey Michael I got some safety razor cases that are in the shape of the razor and I leave the blade in the razor inside the case I get a lot of shaves with the razor doing that just wanted to get your opinion on it people say don't do that but it seems not to hurt nothing
+Michael Mclelland I never take the blade out of the razor until it is time to change the blade...I think you will be fine, as long as you do not leave the blade in a razor you are not actively using.
How does this compare to the Edwin Jagger DE89? My DE 89 took a crap on me after nearly 4.5 years of shaving. Now I'm looking for something that's extremely close in terms of the shave quality.
Very close, but not quite the same. The DE89 is really a very good razor, but I think you will find this head a bit more aggressive, with a touch more blade feel. I would still get it, and in fact bundle it with the Maggard Slant head as well -- great combo for the money!
Travel and away from home - I have had to miss a Sunday or two, but I think I will be able to pick up again this Sunday if all goes well! Nice to know *somebody* noticed (grin)!!
I honestly don't remember. I have been going back over my videos to record what other stuff I used in them, so that I can figure out what I have not used in a long time, which could well include the Maggard V3 head!
I'll just wait till you'll use it again on camera, since I got my hands on one, and also found it not so mild while in the right angle (smaller than the traditional 30 degrees).
Another great shave Michael as usually. I must say thanks to Your advice I am using now the MR5 handle and it is great . I noticed that often You use Myrsol aftershave . I am wondering , how do You like them since they are little pricey and do You have a preference of the scent? Thank You and have a great week ahead. Chris
+Christopher Ach They are indeed a little pricy, no argument there! One might argue too that they are very simple aftershaves, but I have enjoyed them all! Formula F is really good, wonderful scent, and the Blue is a classic barbershop scent. Formula C is pretty good, too, but not as good to me as the Formula F. The Emulsion is clearly a very different product, but that too is another excellent option. Maggard Razors does sell Myrsol samples, but depending on your location shipping might make it hard to justify.
+Darin Glisson Slickness and density really are two different things, and the soap can build a very dense creamy lather (just have to load more). A slick soap is slick even with only a thin layer of lather, just look at the Barrister and Mann soaps for example.
+Ramses Gutierrez Hard to say, but Le Grand Chypre is fantastic, and I just got a tub of the Night Music which also smells amazing. Don't count out Lavanille...
Me? I am literally RIGHT HERE...Not to worry, Sunday should be a regular posting again, and I have a number of new items in the queue I am really looking forward to reviewing!
The aesthetics of this razor handle, I think, is not as good as the ergonomics, good, easy grip that it seems to have. Purely how the design of this handle comes across to me personally. There can at times be something that is very functional, lends itself to easy & very convenient use, but looks-wise it's not as appealing. I've always felt that the old Gillette razors combined nearly to perfection, ergonomics and seamless industrial design -- TTOs, 3-piece razors.
+K Theodor Ergonomics are great, but I can see how this look might not appeal to everybody! The vintage Gillettes have clearly stood the test of time, and perhaps in fifty years people will be reveling in their vintage Maggard razors :-) I know, Zamak, but the handle!

Hey Michael just want to thank you you taught me a lot about shaving because it is an art so thank you
You are very welcome, and remember we all keep learning; that is half the fun!
Yeap, a great shaving soap/cream
Had Mondial on my radar screen. This soap is a bit pricey, so it was good to hear an honest opinion before taking the plunge. Thanks for posting.
Not worth it, I would go for the Tcheon Fung Sing...same soap, better price!
Nice shave Michael Thanks.
+Brian B. Thank you, glad you are still enjoying them!

I have been looking over those - very nice looking razors! Clearly something you will be passing to the next generation, too (grin) - made to last!

thanks for another great honest review:)

Ok thank you there Michael always being there when I have a question for certain it don't hurt my cases or blade it's open comb razors
Even there you should be fine!

Did you, or did you not, eventually tried the Maggard v3 with another soap? I can't find a second video.

Maybe a thicker lather would lend itself to be slicker.

Michael Freedberg yea I get it. Was just offering my thoughts in hopes it would help. Seemed like you wanted to really like it
Great video as always Michael, very informative.
Got a question for you, what is your favorite Barrister and Mann scent?
+Ramses Gutierrez Hard to say, but Le Grand Chypre is fantastic, and I just got a tub of the Night Music which also smells amazing.
