Mike, Why do people pay local council and with councils not being run well, why do they not cut out the middleman and pay direct to Eskom . Then Eskom can chase the money and cut people off that don’t pay and I’m sure the people will get slightly cheaper electricity as I’m sure council put a little on top for themselves.

Thank you for this important comment. It is our intention at the State of the Nation to help people understand better, how their money is used by the state and what their rights are. Governments prefer it the country's citizens don't understand how systems work and South Africa's relatively short experience of democracy make us more vulnerable to this. If more South Africans understood their rights and held the government accountable, the success of this country is gaurenteed.
