Jag tror inte jag kände att jag ville stänga av och göra någonting annat en endaste gång under något avsnitt, väldigt ovanligt ;). 1:28 Interviewer: “You weren’t born when Clark Olofsson caused a stir. What did you know about him before you dived into this project?” Bill: “When I was growing up, I want to remember a front page of a newspaper without context, sort of. “Escape, Clark Olofsson”, like, “Three prisoners plus Clark Olofsson”, so I understood that there was something with this person that made him worth mentioning in papers. But I just thought that if you’re a criminal and famous, you’d have to be a mass murderer. It was a that kind of thing. He was just there as some sort of echo because he wasn’t at all relevant in my life - I’m too young for that. But when this project came about, it… Jonas Åklund phoned me, and was like, “Hey! Netflix has been in talks with me, and they are probably going to produce a series on Clark Olofsson’s life, and it could be a blast.” And I was like, “Okay, and there weren’t anything [other projects] other than that?” “Take a look at it.” I knew Jonas a little bit, just superficially, but, he’s like, just so freaking pleasant, so I was like, I had such a f*cking good conversation with him, okay, I should do my research. I go and scroll his [Clark Olofsson’s] wikipedia page, and it’s like it never ends - his life, I was like, “Are you kidding me?” There was madness on top of madness, on top of madness on top of madness. And that is like a dream! It’s a dream role. And he’s a Swede! That makes it so much more fun. So, that was what was so appealing about the role. It’s so, it’s so none-Sweden - because he’s so over the top in all ways during a time when no one was supposed to be too much [or over the top] in Sweden.” 3:48 Interviewer: “Was it difficult to become him? Because it’s one thing to read about a guy on a wikipedia page-” Bill: “But that was the introduction to the project.” (Laughs) Interviewer: “Yeah, right. And then to portray him, and understand him, why he committed all these crimes, and could betray so many people?” Bill: “Yeah. Ehm, I love to do my own research. And here, there was a mass of material from when he was sixteen to when he was as old as he is today. He’s also a person who has used media. He’s like the first influencer.” Interviewer: “Yeah.” (Laughs) Bill: “And gangster. So, you’re like… how can you become a celebrity and be a gangster? Those two shouldn’t go together.” 4:52 Interviewer: “Didn’t you meet him [Clark Olofsson] before the shoot?” Bill: “I have met him, yeah, before the shoot.” (Laughs) Interviewer: “How was that meeting?” Bill: “It’s strange to meet a person you’ve focused so much on. It’s like, “Oh, damn, here he’s walking towards me.”” Interviewer: “But many were charmed by him. He had the gift of speech. He could make many people laugh. Were you also charmed by him?” Bill: “Oh, yeah. Definitely. He’s incredibly charismatic. And that has been his big strength and weapon - his humor. There is almost nothing so disarming as making someone laugh. It’s too simple to say that he’s this or that, that he’s a criminal. On paper, yeah, he’s a criminal.” Interviewer: “Do you see a risk in creating a series about him? That the myth of the charismatic, almost gentleman, bank robber will gain new life?” Bill: I think that- I don’t want- The message is pretty clear in the series. If you watch all six episodes, if you’re observant enough, you’ll get it. Is it right, or wrong? (Shrugs) Is it true? Yes. He is the most famous criminal in Sweden. The story can still be amazing, even if he shouldn’t be glorified as a person.” 6:57 Interviewer: “The series is tremendously intense. High tempo. How was the shoot for you? You’re practically in every scene.” Bill: “Yeah, the shooting was just as intense. Jonas writes a lot- He writes montage and there’s at least one montage in each episode. There are quite many scenes. Amounts of scenes, I mean. Easiest to shoot things would be, like, if you and I were to make a TV series together, and everything were to take place in this room, it would be pretty easy and comfortable to shoot it. Two cameras, and this would go really well. But if you have a hundred scenes per episode, then it’s a hundred locations. So, the tempo was high all the time. And Jonas wants as many shots as possible because he edits it in such high tempo, so there are double cameras, and it’s about just getting as much coverage you can in one scene.” 8:35 Interviewer: “But apart from that we get to follow his criminal path, we also get to see his private life, and he was real adept at getting women to fall head over heels for him. You can’t possibly even count how many s*x scenes there are-“ Bill: (laughs a little awkwardly) No, yeah… but they [the scenes] are short in any case.” Interviewer: Yeah, they’re short. Is it just a day on the job, or are those scenes extra… something to shoot?” Bill: Yeah, I don’t think they are so… Well, they are part of the job, but they’re also not that fun, always, for me, at least. The s*x scenes are this (gestures with his hand) short in the script, and we’re packed for time too, so, it’s just like “off with your clothes, f*ck, go, and then, quick, put on the fake beard because now you have that other scene,” so there was also that kind of stress surrounding it too.” Interviewer: “Few people get to step into someone’s else shoes and to read up on this material that you mentioned before is so infinite, and there also aren’t so many similarities between you two. Do you still feel you’ve learned something, personally?” Bill: “There is something liberating about playing a character who doesn’t care about what other people think. It kind of messy and vulnerable to be an actor since you, I don’t know, is a public figure. It’s like, if you go on the internet, you can find anything and everything that’s being written about you, what people think about you, and that they say you are something or that you aren’t something… And that’s just it, that people think and write about you. I don’t know, but it’s something liberating about playing a character like Clark, who couldn’t care less, and then he did that a bit too much and it didn’t turn out that good, but do you see what I’m getting at?” Interviewer: “Absolutely. To dare to be yourself.” Bill: “Yeah, be yourself. And some people, here in life, will maybe hate you, but maybe that says more about them than it does about you?” 10:39 Interviewer: “Do you think he, today, understand how many people he has betrayed, let down, hurt, and destroyed the life of?” Bill: “I don’t think he understands that enough, at least. Or that he thinks about that enough. But, I don’t know, it’s hard because he will probably watch this [this interview], but, it’s like… Yeah, he’s an individualist, and he is. So, he takes care of himself.”
