Energy demands are fluctuating throughout the day and fuel adjustment in thermal plant is neither quick nor easy; whereas hydel plant it can be achieved easily. KPTCL or ESCOM transmission or distribution losses are huge (at-least 40 to 50 percent energy loss due to age old network system or of neglected overhead line replacement with underground cables). In some place theft of power is common practice. Government must focus on improving energy efficiency to reduce transmission/ distribution losses and environmental pollution. Its save earth mission on priority and definitely not freebie way of governance. Without addressing the core issues like improving energy efficiency and just engaging on freebie’s looks funny and pathetic way of governance.

Behind all this an under current is passing. As the consumption figure has suddenly increased without any additional appliance added in the house; I made an audit. The supply voltage should be 230V. If you watch your digital energy meter it could be showing the supply voltage of around 250V (which is happening in my house). The Voltage forms the multiplication factor in energy calculation. Thus the increased voltage will jack up the consumption figure. My contention is, the voltage has been increased in order to increase the consumption figure to make the indicated figure to cross 200 units to make the consumer not eligible for free power. Hence you are not only loosing eligibility for free power, you will be paying higher bill amount.
