PLEASE HELP!!!! TH-cam does NOT support my channel!! I am permanently demonetised; when people click on my videos, I don't make a single dollar. This channel runs on donations from my viewers for 100% !
The type of content I make is very expensive and time consuming - such as filming the whole life cycles of butterflies and moths in captivity, which takes months of dedication! I am also an independent researcher, conservationalist, moth breeder and hobbyist, and the funds I raise online go towards my videos, my research & breeding projects that promote the importance and our knowledge of insects and other animals - on social media and in reallife!
Consider subscribing to my Patreon for as little as 1$ per month: / bartbutterflies - it massively helps! On Patreon, people can buy a subscription. Patrons also get unique rewards, like voting on content, personal FAQ videos, or participating in my videos once in a while.
Send a single payment through PayPal: paypal.me/BartCoppens - consider it to be like a "tip" if you like my content. Through PayPal you can send a single donation, which will help me produce more videos.
Send a tip through Ko-Fi: ko-fi.com/bart... - through this platform, users can send small finacial "tips" to support their favorite artists or creators.
Want to donate with VISA or Credit Card? This is possible too, via LiberaPay, a trusted online platform. My LiberaPay is here: liberapay.com/...
Did you know that I make custom merchandise such as cards, calendars and more with my moth & butterfly designs? The sales help my channel; find my Etsy shop here: www.etsy.com/s...
Did you know that on Amazon.com there is a store where you can find ALL the equipment I use and recommend so that you can copy me? My cameras, my breeding equipment, everything! Find my Amazon storefront here: www.amazon.com...
Patrons & People who have donated can expect to see their names in the credits of my videos sometimes, get shoutouts, or participate in events or special FAQ videos - on top of getting my gratitude of course. Your donation helps me research insects, and helps me spread love and knowledge for them world wide!
Is donating Money not interactive enough for you? I have an Amazon "wishlist". If you order any item from my wishlist, it will be SHIPPED to my adress as a suprise gift. My list can be found: www.amazon.com...

My mission as a TH-camr is as follows:
    1. Inspire people to admire insects (butterflies & moths in particular) more, and realise how important, beautiful, complex and fun these animals are. Insects are the most important animals in our environment, but get the least attention!
    2. Promoting (ethically!) breeding moths and butterflies in captivity, and providing notes, tips and caresheets, to help other people breed them.
    3. Subtly point out environmental issues, to get my audience more aware of the fact our environment needs more support, and make people care more about nature in general.
    4. To supplement my career as independent entomologist, and provide a free and accessible source of information online.
    5. To entertain - social media is entertainment after all, no matter how much we pretend it's science - to be succesful, one has to be entertaining, and provide interesting content to take peoples mind off other issues.
    6. Use my influence in a positive way, that generates more attention towards species of animals that have been severely neglected by science.
    7. To raise more funds that I could use to produce more, and better quality content in the future.

I’m curious to see how you’d do with a papilio sp.- maybe the old world swallowtail or scarce swallowtail? And of course monarchs, but I already know what’s coming maybe 😉
What about a fritillary? Their caterpillars take some time to raise, though they make for some beautiful butterflies!
Oooooh or a skipper.... I have a lot of suggestions sir 😅

Ik heb heel vaak Atalanta rupsen gevonden. Altijd roestbruin met witte stippen en inderdaad in een gevouwen brandnetel blad. Grappig om te zien dat er meer kleurvariaties bestaan.

So pleased to watch your video. Here in New Zealand we have our own Red Admiral Vanessa Gonerilla, which sadly is a very rare sighting in my area due mostly to lack of nettles, especially our endemic urtica ferox nettle tree which the red admirals desire most. I finally have 7 caterpillars/chrysalis, gifted by an enthusiast and hoping to have my first butterfly soon, so especially appreciated the details on feeding fruit and sugar water. I have a small adapted glasshouse which houses the same netting cage, essential for keeping out the ant sized ichneumon wasp pteromalus puparum, introduced to control the white cabbage butterfly, but now infecting both yellow and red admirals as they pupate.
Hopefully my efforts will bring back the nz red admiral to my area at least.

If so, the greatest effect will be spreading Urtica ferox!

I'm amazed how you're able to touch the stinging nettles, I wish I could I get hurt. Thanks for the advice in your videos, I appreciate it a lot ♥

Nymphalidae are a great species for beginners to rear at home, and can mostly be released as adults without environmental consequences as they are so wide ranging.

I was trying to catch one until I injured it and I felt guilty. I did not want to hold it because I was scared and then I checked it and it was was struggling and I checked and there was a yellow jacket wasp (Vespula maculifrons) on it and it was attacking and killing the red admiral and trying to drag it even though their queen is dead they are still trying to survive probably the queen survived and at that time I felt guilty because I injured a innocent butterfly and it was a free target for the yellow jackets. Yellow jackets are really aggressive and if you go near their nest on accident they will sting you and will fight you for your food and they always bother you.

How long do the butterflies live on average after emerging from the cocoon? Also - any considerations / factors on deciding between trying to raise moths vs. butterflies from the egg stage? Whatever lives longer after emergence would be the biggest thing for me. Great videos and whenever I get a chance I'll throw you some support on patreon. Do you sell any moth/butterfly eggs?
