    Just got my 380 flying. Got sidetracked right after receiving the kit. The most difficult part of building this thing was not the radio programming, not the flight controller programming and not the mechanical building. The most difficult aspect was to get the ESC and motor wires arranged in such a way as to get the canopy on. Still have not figured that out as there simply is not enough room. Otherwise, it fly's great and I love the sound, no mechanical noise just the rotor blades in the air.

      That’s really interesting you had those issues, my ESC setup is very clean, neat and has never been an issue. I did have to play around with the placement of it for a little while but I absolutely love the way I have it installed.

      @@mangzrc I'm running a Scorpion Tribunus 80-amp esc. It's a pretty compact unit but where the problem is, is with the bullet connectors. They form a long and straight rigid section of the wire, and they make it difficult to fit them in. Glad to hear you had an easier time with your ESC.
      FYI running the same exact cyclic servos and motor you are and have the MKS 9780 mini on the tail. Using a belt tensioner as per your recommendation and the alum servo mounts and main drive pully. Got the motor mount with the cooling fins and the Lynx bell crank unit for the tail assembly.
      FBL unit is a Spirit GT with their Geolink unit. TNX for the vids, got a lot of useful info from them which helped me in the building of this heli.

      @@rcas350pilot8 Sounds like you have one hell of a 380, that’s awesome man. I would love to see you post a video of it, I’m interested in seeing the setup. I’m glad you found my video helpful, that’s why I do them, to help out fellow pilots.

    FYI just purchased the Spektrum 6250 and receiver from AMain Hobbies. They say they have limited quantities and they were the only place I found that had stock, everyplace else backordered.

    Those other servo horns for the futaba do fit the mks servos I thought mine wouldn't fit either but after someone else telling me they fit REALLY snug I got them on and the strength and play in the thicker arms is the best.

    Just got one of these today. With regard to the tail servo rod from what I can see it is not supposed have threads to accept the threaded rods, rather its supposed to be epoxied and according to the assembly manual most of the threaded rod slips down into the carbon fiber rod so you have lots of surface area for the epoxy to hold. Furthermore from what I know carbon fiber does not thread or machine well. Those threaded rods have very fine threads and I seriously doubt you could thread that tail servo rod and have any degree of strength at all, hence they tell you to epoxy the thing. A google search bears this out as well. On another note the quality of this thing is amazing but this is what I expected.

    • @mangzrc
      @mangzrc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tail-rod is not suppose to come pre-threaded, you make the threads with the metal rods. I personally believe that the metal rods should thread into the carbon rod, the CA does 90% of the holding but the threading is a safety/backup. I am not a fan of how minimalistic the tail-rod assembly is in general, Blade Heli's makes a more secure tail-rod IMO. I purchased a new rod assembly and it threaded very nicely on both sides unlike my original one, leading me to believe my original tail-rod was poorly tooled. The threads alone were strong enough to where I would trust it for a test flight. Just keep a close eye on that rod, maybe purchase another one and see if you get one that threads.

      @@mangzrc Just purchased two tail rod assemblies, they don't cost that much. Will see if they thread as yours did. Have to admit I do not have much experience using epoxy so I'm assuming that SAB knows what they are talking about when they recommend epoxy. If they thread as yours did I assume you are still supposed to use the epoxy as well. I did look at how Blade does it on the 480, appears they have a threaded sleeve. I have a small mill in my basement, will figure something out if I have to. Also purchased a CNC aluminum main pully to use instead of the plastic one that comes with the kit. I just like CNC machined parts I guess. When this stuff arrives in a few days I will post here again as to how the rods thread etc.

    I'm really enjoying you heli videos! I'm looking to build my first kit and budget wise was looking at the buddy 380 and the fusion 480. It seems the fusion 480 would be cheaper In super combo form. Which heli would you recommend more?

    • @mangzrc
      @mangzrc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as value goes, get the Fusion 480 super combo kit, you will not be disappointed.

      Good question, I know the buddy had a new frame design, not sure if it would mate with the older version. I would email SAB and ask them.

    Question about your motor choice. You said you chose the X-Nova 2820 920 kv motor, but in the manual it mentions using the 890 kv version of that motor - why did you choose the 920 version? Just curious as I just ordered one of these kits and am in the process of buying components for it. Thanks.

    • @mangzrc
      @mangzrc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 920 version is a higher quality, updated version of the 890. That is why they call it the “lightening”. When the Goblin was manufactured, I don’t believe the 920 was available so that’s why it is not in the manual. You can pull up the specs of the 890 and the 920 and see the performance differences.

      @@mangzrc Thanks. I have another question for you. I'm going to be using the 6250 flybarless unit as well. Where did you place the rx that comes with it, and did you add a remote rx to it since this heli has carbon frames?

    • @mangzrc
      @mangzrc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rc0heli0flier I used double-sided tape to secure the RX to the underside of the tail servo mounting plate, the RX antennas float freely under the boom, Iv never had any issues with this setup, with the 380 being rather small I don’t see a need for another RX, but it would not hurt.

      @@mangzrc Hey, just finishing up my 380 and have a couple more questions if you don't mind. What percent settings are you using for your gyro? I'm using the 6250 as well so mine should be set about the same as yours I would think. Also, I'm using the 890 kv version of the same motor. What are your throttle curve settings? I assume you are using governor mode? Thanks.

    No way in hell would I fly that thing with that tail servo rod issue you mentioned. That thing needs to be properly threaded in with a nut locking it as well. I'm really surprised they would even ship with such a defect.

    • @mangzrc
      @mangzrc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      RC HeliPilot I agree, I am hoping the new one I ordered is better tooled, I am also going to use some IC-2000 to hold it in place. We shall see.
