    5 years past and this is one of the best videos available for creating your own weapons. Thank you for sharing.

    Please do more of these, I'm always looking for new and interesting ways to arm my vehicles for Gaslands. Thank you for being the first one to tackle this, its been very helpful!!!

      I'll try to do something focused on Gaslands on a regular basis. Sometimes weapons... sometimes terrain.

    For the zip ties, the strips work far better as ammo feeds than armor plates.

    Some great ideas there :) One of my favs at the moment is using a lighter to bend some little plastic straws/tubes to create some over the top exhaust pipes mad max style

    Excellent!!! I'm doing the same with my gaslands' cars. If the idea of the game is a death race, Mad Max style, with cars full of rust, weapons made by any stuff found in a junkyard (guys, it's post armaggeddon, don't expect a F1 racing car), we must try to represent this. My first car for Gaslands was a broken Lightning McQueen with missing rear wheels. I just looked in my tool box for anything, literally, anything that could help me to custom and restore the car: office clips for armor and decoration, 2 SATA conectors from and old PC (turbo exhaust pipes, jejeej), electrical wire connectors (for 2.5 mm wire) for rear supercharger, Fischer wall plugs for side mounted "rocket launcher" or a rare machine gun, and so on. About the painting. The primer coat I tried to cover all the surfaces even but when I applied color (a mix of black and dark red to simulate cheap anti corrosive metal primer) I tried to paint a little messy, and some parts of the car (the hood lighter than the rest of the chassis) with different tonality; like a car made from scrap parts found anywhere. And the same for the rest of my cars, I'm not buying a brand new hotwheels, besides it's cheap price, I'm ask in my community (parents of my children's schools, neighbours, etc) for die cast cars broken or semi broken. Gaslands in some way contribute to reciclying old toys ;)

    Not bad for random bits! I like they're not your typical miniatures plastic bits.

    Badass build! Definitely inspired some new ideas for me.

    Great tips. Thank you. I think the rivet may have been an eyelet like used for fabric or leather.

    A good source of small weapons are the clix figures. The old Mechwarrior Darkage are perfect (ebay for cheap). Some game stores have a bin of "common" clix they will just give away... Party stores have toys in packs for cheap -- look for the army men.

    If you want turrets that rotate, you can attach a small neodymium magnet to the bottom of the turret and (if necessary) another magnet to the place on the vehicle where the turret will go (watch your polarity). The attachment is very secure and rotation is easy.
    In addition if you keep your polarity consistent across all your projects, magnets allow you to swap out turrets trivially as well. The machine gun armed technical today can be recoilless rifle armed tomorrow and plasma arc armed next weekend.

      It's a good idea. I saw a few examples on the Gaslands Facebook page, but I felt the items were sitting too high with the magnet underneath. It doesn't bother me that the weapons don't rotate, but swapping out is definitely something useful for players.

    Adding a set of "pipes" to the legs of the IC would look pretty cool as well. Thanks for the ideas.

    Well done! New to Gaslands and really getting some GREAT tips and techniques from you! I've never been a mini's gamer other than x-wing and no terrain there. :-) I do paint my ships, but modding this stuff has REALLY been fun! I work in IT so have access to 'abandoned' electronic parts. :-)

    The plastic tubes from pens make good gun barrels. Pop rivets, small metal eyelets, some buttons, plastic packaging is an endless source of materials..I like the 7805 voltage regulator as a cannon! Brass compression fittings look good. Wander through you local hardware and surplus store. Tell them what you're doing..Lotta gamers out there. They may very well help you out..

  • @ApocGuy

    @6:35 its called voltage regulator ;) , ive used bazzilion of those in past. could actually be used as add-on or as part of voltage regulators in case of semi trucks lightning.

    If you don't mind de-soldering, you can find lots of parts on an old computer or busted radio.

      There are still a lot of CRT TV's being thrown out , tons of electronic components, heatsink's, wiring, etc. Just be a little careful of capacitors as they can remain charged for a long time.

    I wonder if those zip-ties could be used to make tank tracks for your vehicles! That's what sprang to mind when I saw them on your video!

    • @TheTabletopEngineer
      @TheTabletopEngineer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be... they're very strong (not bendy) but some heat might allow them to be warped and bent to a desired shape.

    Brilliant video! Keep up the good work.
    In case folks haven't swung by the Gaslands forums, there's a really cool free PDF by JC Augustus called "Weapons for Hot Wheels cars on the cheap" available for download. gaslands.com/forums/topic/modding-cars-on-a-budget-manual/
    It has tons of handy tips and ideas that use all sorts of every day/easy to find items in some quite ingenious ways.
    Also, on the subject of zip-ties, they can make tank/caterpillar track sections or belts for machine guns. As with all kit-bashing and terrain building, it's just about taking an item and looking at it closely from all angles and thinking "what does this remind me of?" or "this shape looks cool, what could I use it for?"
    The main thing is, we play these games with our imagination as well as our senses, so never be afraid to wing it and improvise.

    12:10 when you go from the fuse to the zip tie and the truck moves back a couple inches there is a new piece on the table infront of the truck that you don't talk about. What is that piece called?

    • @DarkAvatar1313
      @DarkAvatar1313 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you talking about the header pins? They come in strips and can be cut to how many pins you need at each crimped spot.
