you all probably dont care but does any of you know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid lost my login password. I would love any help you can offer me!
Somehow, had never heard this one until this morning on the radio. Had to look it up, of course! Thanks for posting! I was madly in love with Marty when I about 8 years old!
Each generation is fortunate in that they do get their share of great singers and songs. Ones that stand the test of time. Marty and his songs were one of his generations, and we get to share in it. Ain't life and recordings grand? Thank you for posting.
+BloodViper Games Have to listen to hsi songs periodically, just because. "Stawberry Roan" means a lot to me because in my callous youth I got one like that...in fact, except for the 44 brand they were about the same. He kept trying to mash my leg in the stall and in a fit, I smakced his ears with my hat. He went real quiet, that should have told me something! I still can predict the weather in my right knee and ankle from what happend the next 30 seconds! We are pretty stupid our youth! ;)
When I was just a kid, not even in high school, I was driving from Virginia to Florida with my family (at the time, fueling one car and feeding four people was cheaper than buy four plane tickets). By chance, one of my brothers happen to borrow a mixed tape with a bunch of these songs on them. We must have listened to Big Iron and El Paso a dozen times, along with Johnny Cash's Don't Take Your Guns to Town and a few others. Only other than the Cash songs, we could never figure out who did them, and the guy who had the mixed tape had gotten it from his uncle or something, so we never found out. It has probably been about 16 years since then, but I still remembered the first verses of El Paso and the "no one dared to ask his business, no one dared to make a slip. The stranger there among them had a big iron on his hip." I will find myself singing just those few lines from time to time. Well, a week ago, I watched one of my favorite John Wayne movies; The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. And afterwards, I looked up the song on TH-cam. To my surprise, in the suggestions to the right, I saw a song called Big Iron. And just like that, I found Marty Robbins. I know; long story. But it was a pleasant surprise.
If they made music like Marty still, there'd be a lot less Beyoncé, Kanye, Kards and that ilk to put up with. Unfortunately, class and decency have taken a back seat to glitz and crappola.
Marty's western/cowboy songs were an integral part of my childhood. I used to fall asleep to his ballads while my Dad played them on his stereo. This is music.
First record my Dad bought. I'm 58 born in Atl. and always watching Marty racing at Atl International Raceway . Not bad for a country singer. Always enjoyed the stories in song. Look further, his Grandfather was an Arizona Ranger...the story just keeps gettin' better.
Sadly they don't make music like this anymore. I hesitate in calling what they make today 'music'... Everything is 'Hip-Hop/Rap Crap'. Even the 'so called' Country music. I'm glad I can still listen to these treasures here on TH-cam.....
I am a strange guy. I don't like Country Music, but I LOVE ❤️ Western Music! Marty Robbins, Frankie Laine, Johnny Horton, Eagles (rock that sounds Western), Johnny Cash, and others! I grew up in the 1960s so I was in the Golden Age of Western TV, and the local Theater at the time was within walking distance, and at that time 8 year old me was perfectly safe walking there alone! So I saw a LOT of Westerns, and Swords and Sandels films. As an adult I have Collected over 500 Western DVDs and I have numerous Western TV shows, some complete. Most recently completed Virginian, The Rebel, and Sugarfoot!
Why ruin perfection. Besides that, all the men who could act western convincingly are dead, & the garbage in whorelywood today wouldn't know the authentic old west if it slapped their fancy coffee drinks out of their lily livered hands.
El Paso and Big Iron could both be stretched into a movie with a few extra scenes and a good writer. I even have an idea of a foreshadowing scene for El Paso showing just how jealous the one cowboy who eventually kills is. We also have some extra background from Marty Robbins himself as he made a prequel song called Feleena. Between Feleena, my idea, El Paso, and some work on what the Cowboy did before he rode back I'm sure that there's at least a 90-110 minute Movie! Damn shame Clint Walker and Fess Parker are no longer with us. In their prime they would have been perfect for the Big Iron Ranger!
Marty loved western movies and he told me that when he would write a cowboy song , he would picture the song like a movie . And from El Paso to El Paso city the songs all play like a movie .
I agree completely. Last month I drove through Arizona on Route 10 and then one week later on Route 40 for my return trip to CA. I had my Marty Robbins box set of cd's with me. I played his western disc on both trips. Driving through the desert, it was easy and fun to picture his songs in my mind. Rangers, cowboys and love songs, they all fit so well with the scenery.
Nobody sang like Marty Robbins or did a country ballad like him. when Iwant to hear country song Ilisten to Marty it kinda makes me feel blue I 'm so glad he left us so much. Dereck Siteman
Leslie, that's why his songs still stand up all these years. They are stories we can relate to, even the western songs. They are songs about the people they portrayed and, in turn, about us today. His music was real.
My Dad knew a bar owner in the early 70s in Glendale who told stories of this kid with a guitar who kept hanging around the bar wanting to play and sing, and how many times he had to chase him out of there. Then one day in the 50s he was watching the Opry on TV...shock of a lifetime!
Mr , I know it sounds strange and unlikely , but there are many great sharpshooter and gunmen within the blind community. Me myself being one of them, I assure you it very well could've happened
True, Marty was amazing, and Mr dolphin speaks the truth just because people are blind ( or have any other disabilities ) doesn't mean they are useless!
Bill Thaxton was an ex-ranger One of the bravest by far It's said that old Bill was the fastest man ever To pin on a ranger's star Stories about him were legends Bill was the best of the bold Bad men all feared him way back in his day But he was now growing old Into Bill's town rode an outlaw He wore his gun low and tied down He reined in his horse and announced to the crowd "If you speak to me call me Sundown" His clothes were all dark and fancy And topped by a black leather vest Somebody asked how he came by his name And if he was one of the best. The eyes of the tall stranger narrowed He grinned like the devil possessed "I never fight till the sun's going down And my back is facing the West" Said he wouldn't be with us tomorrow He only rode in for one thing He only stopped by to make Bill Thaxton die So he could add to his fame. "Go give Bill Thaxton a message And tell him a killer's in town Tell him we'll meet at the end of the street Just as the sun's going down" Somebody said it had been years Since old Bill had toted a gun Sundown replied that it wasn't his hide Killing old Bill would be fun The old ranger sent back his answer "Tell him that I'm on my way I've never ran and I'll meet this young man At any time of the day" Bill got there just about sunset It still hung like fire in the sky In just a few moments out there in the street Old Bill or the outlaw would die Slowly Bill slid from the saddle And started to make his advance The sun hit the old ranger square in the eyes The shadows had started to dance Bill started talking to Sundown Judging his distance that way Their stride was the same and at just thirty feet Both of the men made their play Bill's gun slipped leather like lightning His forty-four spoke with a whine The sun didn't bother Bill Thaxton at all Because the old ranger was blind Six shots delivered their message The ranger had emptied his gun Bill gave a sigh when there was no reply He knew that once more he had won The old ranger lowered his six gun He just stood there starting ahead Watching you'd think that old Bill didn't know In front of him Sundown lay dead Bill has been gone for a long time But old timers still can recall The day the old ranger stood up to the test And proved he was best of them all
Marty Knows How to tell western stories, and make them seem like they're still happening.. We were lucky to have him here for awhile, but not long enough... He's the best story teller.. I got to meet and talk with him.. It was an honor.. He's missed to this day.. But he's still with us thru his songs... His memory will always stay with us and his songs never lose their style... Way to go Marty... Always a Fan/
I like this song more than anything Marty ever did. That says a lot because he was a true great of country music. The guitar and the words make this a song worth listening too and buying.Robbins was extremely talented and this was his best.
This is far and away my favorite Marty Robbins song. He had that western sound down pat and could do it with unmatched ability. This is just one example of the songs that he could do That may be Grady Martin on lead guitar not sure but Martin, a Hall of Famer worked with Robbins on several of his songs like El Paso. This is song I have liked for a very long time. Wish we had these songs today.
Brilliance can be imitated but never bettered. A perfect summary of the greatest cowboy country songs ever! R.I.P Marty Robbins. Long live Marty Robbins!
Just close your eyes and it takes you back to the Frontier of the American West . Marty has a great way of capturing a story,I bought all these LPs when they first came out (Had to order them and wait a dew weeks)
Sweet. Very classic. Did any fan ever notice how most songs were 2 1/2 minutes or so , and Marty's were always four, maybe more? That's because they were so good and always told a story.
thats true will , i have all his songs on old 33 records and cd i play at least one of them every day. it was great to listen to them while i was trucking all round europe.
There are a number of country western singers today. All talented. Garth Brooks' "The Dance" is hard to beat. But I believe everyone knows that there is only one Marty Robbins. And no other with his voice, talent, and story telling abilities.
i still think about Marty sitting under his favorite palm tree in Hawaii writing and girl watching . I cried the day Marty died , He was my hero and my friend for 7 years . There will never be another like him ever .!!!!
Leslie Mackenzie .Hello there. What was Marty doing Girl watching in Hawaii. Did he not take his wife with him ? I read an interview recently by Marty,s daughter Janet . She said that her parents had a strange relationship which grew even stranger in later years. I am very puzzled by that. It leads me to believe that all was not well in the Robbins household. By the way I read the two books about Marty, one by his twin sister Mamie, she also said that her brother was a lonely man towards the end of his life. However Janet said that her Dad was a good man and a good provider for his family. It seems that Marty,s wife and his twin sister did not get on,according to her book.
Reminds me of an old boarder patrolman who was a friend of my dad's. His name was Bill Jordan. Wrote 'No Second Place 'Winners' . A real fast gun. Thanks for posting.
Marty as great as usual. Also known as "The Ballad Of Bill Thaxton", it was recorded on December 6, 1973 while Marty was with MCA and subsequently featured on his 1976 Columbia album "El Paso City".
Marty Robbins was my Stepdad's favorite country singer ... That's why I have a brother named "Marty" ... my little brother told me one time that if I hadn't run off got married, he could have learned to sing because I went around singing all the time (and still do).
The Ballad Of Bill Thaxton . Originally from El Paso City 1976. Produced by Billy Sherrill. My favorite Country Album since I was 13. Good to hear this song again. Thanks!
Absolutely Love This Wonderful " story teller " with a Magic Voice. My Dad would sit at the kitchen table & sing along. Greatest Memories of my Dad. I Miss You Dady. But, your with GOD now and Out Of Pain. I'm so blessed to have you & Mom as my parent's. I know one day - when it's m time - I'll be there with you. Keep a fishing chair next to you, until I get there to fish with you. I Love You Daddy.
This was the very last song my dear son found that he LOVED just a few months before he died, So this song will always remind me of my dear son who I miss so much.
my grandpa stopped at a gas station on his way back and he said the cashier was probably in his early 20s and he only listened to 60s music like this thats good i like it too
I have been a Marty fan forever. I have memorized these lyrics and recite them as "cowboy poetry" when the opportunity presents itself. Out here near the Colorado/Wyoming border that opportunity happens !
Damn good artist. Miss the good ole boys. Marty’s Been dead almost 40 years now and still love this song. New songs are lucky to be remembered 5 years later.
some of his songs are older still since he found the an older ballet and gave it a small rewrite and a fresh coat of paint I thank fallout new vegas for showing me this music so I didn't have to grow up with bad rap songs and meaningless pop music
I like western music. For sure we will know Coyboy western music right into our Future. Be lucky. Be Happy. Gerald Monteath Jones. Tucson, Arizona. USA. May, 2017.
This song reminds me so much of a man I had the honor of knowing as a child. He was my dads ''skipper'' as he put it in his letter? or whatever you would call it when he autographed his book for my dad who was shooting competition under his drection. He used to come to our house and eat cake that my mother would bake for him, don't quite rember but think it was carrot or red velvet cake. He left the marines and became a Border Patrolman. His name was Bill Jordan and the name of his book was ''No Second Place Winners'' I personally saw this man shoot and he was unbelievably fast and accurate. Thanks for posting this song, brings back memories of watching the best in the world standing on the line competing.
Bill Jordan is a legendary pistoleer! One of the best ever. My Dad knew him, I never had the pleasure of meeting him but used to love his stories in one of the gun magazines, can't remember which one he wrote for, Shooting Times maybe?
This song is said to be written by Bobby Sykes who was a backup singer and guitar player for Marty. The songs lyrics and format seem very similar to Marty's western songs such as El Paso, Pride and the Badge, Feleena, San Angelo, and Ave Maria Morales. I am sure there was a lot of collaboration for this amazing song,
when it comes to this singing man you have to drop all you doing and meditate the sound of his voive you are deep in his oratory and melodies just the best
I've been listening to all kinds of music tonight. Started with Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa who are absolutely fantastic. Check them out. Then that lead to Alison Krauss. Somehow I got to Marty Robbins. I was maybe 10 or 12 years old when my mother listened to his music. It is as good today as it was way back then. 55 or something like that years ago. Holy hell!
Marty Robbins tells a better story in 5 minutes than a lot of Hollywood movies do in 3 hours.
I know right. Greatest story teller
I tell you 💪
better then anything on Netflix
you all probably dont care but does any of you know of a way to get back into an Instagram account??
I was stupid lost my login password. I would love any help you can offer me!
@Julio Jesse instablaster :)
Who else appreciates legendary songs like this? ...
How can nearly 700 people dislike this song? Marty is a legend, I wish he was still alive to do audio books, I'd listen to em all
Thank you for the count all the comments like this give your estimation

People were so moved by your comment that they all liked this video instead.
it aint got wokie trans none binary people in it. i reckon.
I not only wish he was still alive, but acting in Westerns! I believe he made a few, but I haven't found any of them. And I've looked.
He is the greatest story teller of our time. Very vivid. I can picture everything he sang. It's like watching a movie by listening
Somehow, had never heard this one until this morning on the radio. Had to look it up, of course! Thanks for posting! I was madly in love with Marty when I about 8 years old!
I was too, and still am at 70!
Marty and the Texas Rangers; it cant get better than that
From Fort Worth, Texas. I love this song as much as I did when I first heard it nine years ago. I'm listening in 2025.Who else listening in 2025?
Marty Robbins was one of the greatest country singers of all time. He cannot be replaced. Simply a legend.
Each generation is fortunate in that they do get their share of great singers and songs. Ones that stand the test of time. Marty and his songs were one of his generations, and we get to share in it. Ain't life and recordings grand? Thank you for posting.
All I can say love love these old songs and singers thank you this is music I grow I am 62 years
Listening to Marty Robbins' songs is better than actually watching a western.
You must not have watched very many good westerns
no, westerns are normally crap writing and a tough character. robby was a genius in writing his songs, but of course there are good westerns.

i love martys songs
Thats sounds amazing! Glad you finally got a chance to search for more of his songs, also The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is a really great movie!
If they made music like Marty still, there'd be a lot less Beyoncé, Kanye, Kards and that ilk to put up with. Unfortunately, class and decency have taken a back seat to glitz and crappola.
My meme got me into this Beautiful music and I'm 12

Not sure what's better: Marty Robbins' story-telling ability, or the music itself! Each song is like a third of a movie.
A simple song that tells a story in 5min that most movies can barely do in 90
Now *THATS* skill
I remember singing along with my brother in the car, when Marty's songs came on. Man what a time to be a kid that was!
The fabulous music of Marty Robbins captures the romance of the old west, the cowboy and the gunslingers like no other singer! Love you Marty!
My son came way to early. So we spend all nite listening to Marty. John smiles and dreams about being a cowboy.
I am a strange guy. I don't like Country Music, but I LOVE ❤️ Western Music! Marty Robbins, Frankie Laine, Johnny Horton, Eagles (rock that sounds Western), Johnny Cash, and others! Same. And most people don’t know the difference between old classic Western music and today’s Country/Western.
@@Debbie338That's because today's country has nothing to do with Western. It's country pop. Or poop as I think of it.
Why hasn’t any of Marty Robbin’s songs gotten turned into a movie? There so good!
I understand your point but it would be hard to make a 5 minute song into at least 60 minute movie.
Why ruin perfection. Besides that, all the men who could act western convincingly are dead, & the garbage in whorelywood today wouldn't know the authentic old west if it slapped their fancy coffee drinks out of their lily livered hands.
His songs could be developed into a longer story but we'd want to see Marty Robbins act as the lead.
@@ceilconstante640that would be difficult seen as he died in 1982

Folklore at it's finest. Lovely tale of the old west and sung so beautifully.

I'm listening to this incredible man sing this amazing song in 2024. I love Marty Robbins ....from Fort Worth, Texas

listening to this you almost believe Old Bill could have done what this song says.
Mr Robbins was THE best story teller, no other comes close.
+Alexis Flores It's just a song. As they say a story teller.
he was a true bard
It 100% could have happened the part of your brain used for sight is rewired when your blind to get you better hearing than your other man.
What a tribute to the Texas Rsngers when a blind man is still the best thank youTexas Rangers for protecting Texas
Can we just appreciate that this town's law enforcement was a blind guy with a .44?
That completely destroyed a running gun
A BADASS blind guy with a .44
Damm .44 and a blind guy plus a killer= dead killer
Seems to me his law enforcement days were before he became blind - once blind he still was not helpless - that even applies today !
A blind guy with a 44 who was the best of them all!
Bill Thaxton was an ex-ranger
One of the bravest by far
It's said that old Bill was the fastest man ever
To pin on a ranger's star
Stories about him were legends
Bill was the best of the bold
Bad men all feared him way back in his day
But he was now growing old
Into Bill's town rode an outlaw
He wore his gun low and tied down
He reined in his horse and announced to the crowd
"If you speak to me call me Sundown"
His clothes were all dark and fancy
And topped by a black leather vest
Somebody asked how he came by his name
And if he was one of the best.
The eyes of the tall stranger narrowed
He grinned like the devil possessed
"I never fight till the sun's going down
And my back is facing the West"
Said he wouldn't be with us tomorrow
He only rode in for one thing
He only stopped by to make Bill Thaxton die
So he could add to his fame.
"Go give Bill Thaxton a message
And tell him a killer's in town
Tell him we'll meet at the end of the street
Just as the sun's going down"
Somebody said it had been years
Since old Bill had toted a gun
Sundown replied that it wasn't his hide
Killing old Bill would be fun
The old ranger sent back his answer
"Tell him that I'm on my way
I've never ran and I'll meet this young man
At any time of the day"
Bill got there just about sunset
It still hung like fire in the sky
In just a few moments out there in the street
Old Bill or the outlaw would die
Slowly Bill slid from the saddle
And started to make his advance
The sun hit the old ranger square in the eyes
The shadows had started to dance
Bill started talking to Sundown
Judging his distance that way
Their stride was the same and at just thirty feet
Both of the men made their play
Bill's gun slipped leather like lightning
His forty-four spoke with a whine
The sun didn't bother Bill Thaxton at all
Because the old ranger was blind
Six shots delivered their message
The ranger had emptied his gun
Bill gave a sigh when there was no reply
He knew that once more he had won
The old ranger lowered his six gun
He just stood there starting ahead
Watching you'd think that old Bill didn't know
In front of him Sundown lay dead
Bill has been gone for a long time
But old timers still can recall
The day the old ranger stood up to the test
And proved he was best of them all
martys song can never get old because no other singer can touch lives like this great gifted singing man his voice will charm any one
Marty had a great voice, and this is one of his best. Always makes me think of my Dad who loves Marty, which is where I get it from I guess!
I didn't think this was my type of music, but these songs are a lot of fun to listen to and are very pleasing to the ear.
fantastic love marty thanks for this lovely post the greatest singer ever
Wow I have been listening to Marty for years, (about 30 thanks Sid) I had not heard this one before, great song vivid story, thanks for sharing.

Marty as great as usual. Also known as "The Ballad Of Bill Thaxton", it was recorded on December 6, 1973 while Marty was with MCA and subsequently featured on his 1976 Columbia album "El Paso City".
Thank you a lot for this, for me new, ballad sung and told by the great Marty!!!
Marty Robbins was my Stepdad's favorite country singer ... That's why I have a brother named "Marty" ... my little brother told me one time that if I hadn't run off got married, he could have learned to sing because I went around singing all the time (and still do).
Hi Hilda💐💐
Arizona born, raised and proud. Marty Robins was always a legend in Phoenix.
In my opinion, nobody can sing western songs like Marty Robbins! Love this man`s music!!
thought I had heard all of Marty's music, but this one I don't recall having ever heard. Thank you for uploading.
So beautiful. One of my favorite Western singers--songs of the old west.
This has always been one of my favorite Marty Robbin Songs. It was never a big hit, but a fantastic song.
My teacher told me to write a western so I came here and wrote this all down word for word...got an A+
The Ballad Of Bill Thaxton .
This song is so good it feels like I’m there watching this all go down.
This was the very last song my dear son found that he LOVED just a few months before he died, So this song will always remind me of my dear son who I miss so much.
The word Legend is over-used, but spot on when referring to Marty Robbins.
No one could paint a picture in song like Marty Robbins no matter what gendre. Western or even the songs of the Islands.
His country ballads are fantastic also.
Marti Robbins' music will live FOREVER!
my grandpa stopped at a gas station on his way back and he said the cashier was probably in his early 20s and he only listened to 60s music like this thats good i like it too
I have known one man who was a Texas Ranger. He seemed the type you didn't want to make mad ;)
another texas ranger you did not want to be on his bad side, was Scott Cooley
Man sometimes I wished I was born back then, ....but I would miss my internet XD
***** Did he have a shiny badge
igor stein Do you have a shiny hump on your back like the Igor's from the horror movies ?
***** Ahh touched a Raw nerve Tut tut
I have been a Marty fan forever. I have memorized these lyrics and recite them as "cowboy poetry" when the opportunity presents itself. Out here near the Colorado/Wyoming border that opportunity happens !
bigmtngreybeard lucky bastard
You live in a great place
The city is boring and you can’t do anything fun
Damn good artist. Miss the good ole boys. Marty’s Been dead almost 40 years now and still love this song. New songs are lucky to be remembered 5 years later.
some of his songs are older still since he found the an older ballet and gave it a small rewrite and a fresh coat of paint I thank fallout new vegas for showing me this music so I didn't have to grow up with bad rap songs and meaningless pop music
l loved MARTY SWEET
Hi Mary💐💐💐
A balladeer supreme!
Excellent. Another great Ballard by Marty Robbins…. Like to see this one made into a movie.
Many thanks for this marveles songs.
It's a wonderful song and has always been one of my favorites. Marty was the best.
I found this song and me and my dad listened to it and we were shocked that we never heard this song before.
Marty Robbins has got to be one of the best country singers around..
There are so many great singers. If I had to mention a few it would be Hank Sr, Waylon and Jim Reeves.
Of course, Marty would be on the list of best country singers.
What a song, what an artist!
i love all of marty robons songs and even some memorys just won't die
I like western music. For sure we

Be Happy. Gerald Monteath Jones.

My Dad knew him, I never had the pleasure of meeting him but used to love his stories in one of the gun magazines, can't remember which one he wrote for, Shooting Times maybe?
dear sweet Jesus!! you had BILL JORDAN come to your house!! he was awesome! if you have any pics ...man i d love to see them.
This song is said to be written by Bobby Sykes who was a backup singer and guitar player for Marty. The songs lyrics and format seem very similar to Marty's western songs such as El Paso, Pride and the Badge, Feleena, San Angelo, and Ave Maria Morales. I am sure there was a lot of collaboration for this amazing song,
@@georgemadis5481 "... right it's dangerous. wouldn't wear it if it wasn't." Same man?

+Noel Conroy my pleasure ty
brilliant
I've been listening to all kinds of music tonight. Started with Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa who are absolutely fantastic. Check them out. Then that lead to Alison Krauss. Somehow I got to Marty Robbins. I was maybe 10 or 12 years old when my mother listened to his music. It is as good today as it was way back then. 55 or something like that years ago. Holy hell!
Glad you found this song...been looking for it for some time!! THANKS!!
a great story teller
I wonder if Marty's fan base keeps growing. Keith Urban did a great job in his tribute to Marty. Marty was a true poet.
started listening to this man's music when I was just 12 years old I'm 53 and I still love it
Beautiful song and beautiful voice.
